Anil Kapoor has been married for 31 years and is known as a complete family man. The ultimate tapori of Bollywood, who will be seen as a guest on Anupam Kher's show this weekend revealed some interesting trivia about his courtship days.
He dated Sunita (formerly known as Sunita Bhambhani) for quite some time before tying the knot. She used to be a leading print model in the 80s while he was struggling to find a foothold in the industry. Reminiscing those days, the actor said, "She called me first. Her excellent English caught my attention. That's how we first met and then became good friends. We've been together for more than 42 years now." Anil, who dated Sunita for 10 years, got hitched after the success of his film, Meri Jung (1985). He explains, "I was from a middle-class family and knew that I could not give her the life that she was used to. But after I signed Meri Jung, I felt that it was the right time to propose."
The Dil Dhadakne Do actor also disclosed how he was considered as a villain in his would-be in-law's house. He added, "I had canceled my two earlier appointments with her family. However, the third time I went, I decided that I wanted us to marry the next day itself or never. The wedding, surprisingly, was all planned in a single day with a few friends and family in attendance. Normally, it's the girl who cries as she leaves her father's home but I was the one who got all emotional and teary-eyed.
Many people had advised me not to get married and maintain that playboy' or bachelor' image that I had, so that I could get more roles. In a way, I was at that point where I had to decide between career and love and I chose love." Well, we love his films like Woh Saat Din and Chameli Ki Shaadi, but these details were even more interesting.
