Chapter 58 Her mother took her outside as she talked about how they would spend their entire day together while Raman and Ishita only had eyes for each other. He looked at her with a faint smile while she noticed his eyes glistening with tears. She felt her heart sink as she realized what this choice meant. For the first time in so many days, they would live apart from each other. He would be alone since she was taking their daughter, but she would be lonely in her own way as well even with her family...
Maybe this wasn't the best choice she thought to herself, but she longed to be with her parents after such a long time. No one in the world can replace parents, but at the same time no one could replace true...love?
She found herself wondering why it was that she was having such a hard time seeing his teary face and was willingly to go to the extent of choosing him over her parents. Was this the love Mummyji was talking about? They had chosen to label this relationship as attraction with care and trust...but the three together...meant love? She was brought out of her thoughts as her mother-in-law called out to her asking her to have a seat at the dinner table and she brushed off her thoughts for the time being...

Raman on the other hand was trying to stop himself from breaking down into tears. He had some hope that she would choose him over her parents. It was selfish and sounded disgusting, but this was what he wanted. Unfortunately she didn't pick him...at the moment he smiled because he said he was okay with any decision she made, but had tears since his hopes that she wouldn't go away even for two days shattered. What would he do now? It was almost as if his life had become dependent on her...he had become dependent on her, he needed her like he needed food and water.
He found himself thinking how come he become so dependent on her. He was never the type to get this dependant on anyone. He did become attached to people, but never was he in a situation where he wouldn't want anyone away from him even for 2 days. Was this the same love Amma had talked to him about? Did he really need her so much even two days away hurt him so much that he was crying just thinking about them? Was he really in love? He was brought out of his thoughts as his mother called him out for dinner and he walked out after wiping his face and trying to look normal...

Their dinner table was lively and full of noise, but for them it was complete silence. They could only think of the next two days and just looked at each other. There were no tears in their eyes because they held them back, but it was visible to the other that they were both not ready to be without the other. He took his right hand and held her left hand under the table. She tightened the grip on his hand and it was then a tear escaped both pairs of eyes silently.
They wiped their eyes with their free hands that didn't go unnoticed by the mothers. They both knew it would be hard for their children and had hardened their hearts when they decided to separate them. They both couldn't see the tears of their children, but then noticed how both were only using one hand to eat. Mrs. Bhalla got up to see what was happening and walked behind the two under the pretext of taking an empty serving dish and saw the two trying to secretly hide their holding hands. She smiled as she knew that even though this would be painful, it would be the best for them...
After dinner as the Iyers left and Mrs. Bhalla went to her room, Raman and Ishita took Ruhi to their room. The room was absolutely quiet as Raman watched her walk over to their suitcases. He reluctantly placed Ruhi on the bed and stopped her from dragging the suitcase. He took hers and placed it on their bed quietly giving her a faint smile before he sat back down picking up Ruhi. He took the small child hugging her tightly shedding silent tears as he knew she would leave tomorrow morning. Never before had he been separated from his daughter. He remembered spending his days in the hospital only to be by her side to get rid of her loneliness and his, he would watch her through an incubator, but never had he spent a day without his daughter next to him. Ishita who was unpacking everything in her suitcase except clothes for a 2-3 days looked up and saw Raman crying for Ruhi.
She left what she was doing and went giving him & Ruhi a tight hug. He put his arms around both of them keeping them close to him as possible. Ishita couldn't help let down her defence and let her tears fall. The clueless Ruhi looked at her crying parents and seeing them upset she started to whimper getting their attention. They wiped off their own tears and tried to console Ruhi who was already crying now. They both tried to cheer her up by talking to her and ended up having their own conversation while the infant stared at them...
"Ruhi, it's not good. Papa's making us cry." Ishita told their daughter while Raman looked shocked.
"No you two are making me cry. You two go and I'll be left all alone." He pouted and both knew he was covering up by pretending to joke, but this was what he felt. So she looked at him but used Ruhi as a way to talk to him.
"Just for a little while and once we come back, Papa will never be left again by us, right?"
"Ruhi, that little while will be the longest time."
"We'll talk, text, and Papa will come to meet us too to make the time go by faster. Right?" she asked him indirectly.
"Of course, Papa will come, he can't stay away from you two." He looked into her eyes and both tried to reassure the other it will be all fine and they manage the next two days.
"Neither can we, right Ru?" She finally looked at her daughter since she kept on pulling her bracelet. Since her parents were busy in themselves and no longer looking at her, she also ignored them and got more interested in Ishita's bracelet while her parents laughed at how she got them talking, but was busy with her own thing now.
He kissed both his daughter and wife on the cheeks while they both laughed back at them. And it was all that made his sadness fly away in moments. A smile from his girls and he was a satisfied man. While she was no different, she watched a genuine curve appear on his lips after kissing her and Ruhi making her smile wider. This was all that she had been wanting ever since she told him her decision...him to give one true smile and now that's all she needed to sleep peacefully without guilt of hurting him or leaving him alone by taking Ruhi as well.
He smiled and handed Ruhi to her silently getting up and putting away her suitcase and coming back to them. Taking Ruhi back he moved to the center of the bed and signalled her to sit next to him. As she sat he supported Ruhi making her sit on the bed and then took one of her hands and placed it on Ishita's stomach...
"Ru, that's where your baby brother or sister is." Ruhi cooed and tried to bounce in her spot as she laughed excitedly while Ishita placed her hand on top of his and Ruhi's as he continued...
"Tomorrow Papa won't be with you three, but you have to behave so the baby isn't bothered and Mumma can rest." His daughter frowned at him while Ishita shook her head at him...
"My daughter is an angel Raman. Your baby always bothers me. Making me sick, dizzy, and tired are all its antic and my poor Ru gets the blame." Ruhi giggled as her mother called her an angel while the couple laughed at their daughter. He picked her hugging her tightly while Ishita pinched her cheeks. The trio laughed and talked till late night and eventually became tired in between their fun night as they were trying to forget what would happen tomorrow morning.
Both Raman and Ruhi were asleep while she was yawning continuously. She looked over at the clock and back at the sleeping duo. Ruhi was fast asleep curled on his chest clutching onto his shirt while he protectively held her back & head and was fast asleep himself. She quietly picked up her phone and clicked a picture of the sleeping father-daughter and looked at what she just clicked. She was about to kiss the photo when she realized they were right there next to her. She placed a kiss on Ruhi forehead and then looked over at him. Brushing his hair from his face, she kissed his forehead and wished him goodnight as she slowly took Ruhi from him and put her onto the bed where they would both be able to sleep peacefully. As she looked at their similar pouted faces, she dozed off to sleep not knowing her husband was wide awake and would admire his angels when she fell asleep and worried about the next day eventually dozing off looking at the smiles on the faces of his daughter and wife...

Her parents arrived the next morning when Ishita had been all ready and had just woken up Raman later than usual since he had gone to bed late night after watching over his two girls and wanted to sleep in. When Raman was about to head to the bathroom for a shower, he heard his mother calling out to Ishita that her parents were here to pick her up.
As Ishita looked at him sadly and walked out, he rushed after her and found her parents waiting for her elated. Her mother gave her a huge hug while her dad asked for her suitcase. Raman wanted some time with her alone and asked his in-laws to stay back for breakfast to which Mrs. Bhalla told him that Ishita had already eaten and the Iyers were in a rush since Mr. Iyer had somewhere important to go. My. Iyer who really did not have anything important to do unwillingly went along when his wife eyed him to agree.
Both of them didn't know they wouldn't even get time for a proper good bye and knew they both needed at least this if she was going so quickly. So under the pretext of changing Ruhi and bringing out her things, they both rushed inside while their parents smiled at their need for each other alone.
They both took each other into a hug as soon as they shut the door behind them. He rested his chin on her head while she put her arms around him as tightly as she could. They both stayed in the same position in silence swaying side to side until she spoke up...
"I'll miss you." She mumbled as she buried herself in the crook of his neck making a tear roll down his eye.
"I'll miss you more." He pecked her head making a tear roll down her eyes.
They reluctantly pulled apart from the hug as they knew their parents would call for them soon. She looked at him apologetically while he knew she felt bad about all this. All he wanted right now was foro her to go happily since she wanted this. So he wiped off her tears and cupped her face as he leaned in to place a soft kiss on her lips. They let their lips linger closer together longer than they needed and slowly parted their lips.
After making his wife happy, he knew his daughter would have issues staying without him and he wanted to say good bye to her as well. So he picked her up and gave his chirpy daughter a wide smile. The small girl unaware that she would be away from her daddy dearest for 2 days thought it was a normal thing as he always did this before he left to work and so she cuddled onto his shirt making him emotional. He kissed her forehead. She looked up at her dad while he took her over to Ishita with small tears in his eyes that went away as he handed their daughter safely to her mother...
"My big girl, take care of Mumma and chotu, okay?!" he kissed her cheeks making her smile and tickled her to get a laugh out of her. And then as she was all smiles, he turned to Ishita and pecked her forehead...
"Take care of yourself and please call or message-"
"Once I reach." They both burst out laughing and both were happy that the other had a smile on their face...for now at least.
Taking the slowest steps possible, they walked out of their room with Ruhi in her arms and him carrying her things. She bid Mummyji goodbye who was just as excited as her Amma for her to go. Madhavi asked Raman to give Mr. Iyer the suitcase and took Ishita's hand taking her from there faster than her slow steps would have. He followed her silently as she kept on looking back at him putting up a smile while he also tried to smile as she turned to face him. He walked behind her till she left the house and then rushed to their room's balcony to see her leave. As she was about to get into the car after placing Ruhi in her seat, she looked up and saw him. He waved to her while she waved back with smiles that were trying so hard to be real...

She was gone. They could both feel a sudden emptiness in themselves. They couldn't point what, but maybe the mere fact that they knew they would be staying far away from each other made them so lonely and incomplete. They both tried to convince themselves that this was a short while and that nothing would be that bad as they were thinking of it to be. They would text or call and he even promised to drop by, so it would go by quick if they tried to make it that way.
He tried to shake off her thoughts and went to go get ready while she tried to not think about him and looked out of the car window to enjoy the morning breeze. As he picked up his towel, he called out to her to hand him his clothes when he remembered she wasn't here. He smiled sadly as he took out his own clothes after so long and remembered how in the very first days of their marriage, he had asked her not to spoil him by taking out his clothes and that he would get habituated to it after a while. Remembering that day he took out the very clothes she had first handed to him the day after their wedding when he forgot his clothes.
As he was heading to the bathroom, he suddenly remembered Ishita's nausea and at that moment his palm met his forehead. How could he be so careless and caught up in his own mess of feelings to forget about her health. He rushed to the drawer where all her vitamins and medicines were placed and found them missing and relieved to know she remembered and was taking care of herself. But then as he went to the bathroom, he for once wished she had forgotten her things, so he might have gotten a chance to go visit her under the pretext of the medicine. He realized how stupid he sounded and chided himself for acting this way as he went to go get ready for work which he thought might distracted him from his wife's thoughts.
On the other hand, Ishita who had been enjoying the cool breeze on her face blowing her hair back suddenly remembered something. She pulled out her phone as she remembered she arranged all his things back into their place this morning be he woke up and he would be able to find anything once he was getting ready. She texted him where everything was and waited for a reply from him.
He came out dressed in the clothes that were slowly becoming his favourite. After fixing his hair looking through the mirror, he looked around the vanity for his watch and wallet. He couldn't find his things there and thought about where else they could be. He was going to shout out to Ishita when he sadly remembered she wasn't there. But he could always ask her he thought, so he got out his phone and to his surprise, she had already texted him about where all his things were. He followed her text and found his wallet, handkerchief, Mumbai files, watch, and even his socks with her help. He smiled as everything was exactly where she had mentioned and she knew he would have trouble finding everything, so she already messaged me. He texted her back thanking her for the help and reminded her to also take her vitamins and food on time.
They both smile reading the texts over and over again about how much concern the other was for them and how well they knew each other. And unknowingly they said their thoughts aloud...
"I miss her so much already!" he looked at her text once more before he sadly walked out of their room.
"I miss him so much already!" she looked at his text once more before sadly looking out the window.
Little did they know this was just the beginning...
