But, I did feel sorry for him in Book 6 because we finally got to see a more human side to him.

YUp Mysti u r right. Great points Swati. 👏

yes misty you're right... being a deatheater is not all about dark glamour, or having people at your mercy... it's like FAUST'S pact with devil. when you take the decision to follow lord voldemort you don't see that you are ultimately going to make your OWN life hell...
probably draco realised too late... but even if he did realise, he didn't have options... his family was in danger... i pity him...

i think it is this that differs Draco from his father...Draco does show hesitation in killing Dumbledore, and you can tell he has no choice or he and his family will die.

and yeah, i agree...i think draco really didnt have a choice...first, Lucius put his whole family in jeopardy when he got caught alongside the other deatheaters at the ministry...so in order to save himself and his father and mother, Draco was given the task of taking over his father's position. He also had a very heavy burden on him as he was given the task alone, to which was intentional as the dark lord hoped he would not succeed and die in the process, as a punishment for Lucius.

sugarbun.. v know tht he is human.. but like voldy... he looks like a ghost to me... 😕 😕 .... 🤢.. well yh actually it is not draco's fault tht he was born in a death eater's family.. if he was not then i guess he and harry would be frends....only if he did not act like a stupid rich person... like he does.. for instance--- the nimbus 2001 thingy...

I think everyone's forgetting that Draco was PROUD that Voldy had 'selected' him to be the one to kill Dumbledore.

And he was too young and immature to think of the consequences of his actions, he was just gung ho about doing his task and becoming Voldy's right hand man,as he had been led to believe.

Narcissa says it best in 'Spinner's End' that Draco is only 16, and he doesn't realise that this is Voldy's punishment to the Malfoys for Lucius's mistakes in the Dept of Mysteries.

I think that the only reason Draco hesitated when he had DD all alone was because that was the very first time he had to thik of the consequences of his actions. Uptil that moment, he never faced the man he was going to kill, he tried all sorts of indirect methods--like the mead and the necklace.

Looking into someone's eyes and knowing YOU are responsible for ending their life...that *is* scary.

As for saying that he was a victim of circumstance--I disagree. Granted, he was in a difficult position, but he could've had the strength to go to Dumbledore in the beginning and turn double agent like Snape had...but he didn't, because he was PROUD to be asked to kill the 'Muggle loving fool'.

He must have realised the difficulty of his position only once he had failed in getting to DD twice--Voldy must have threatened him--which led to his desperation and his crying in the bathroom.

If he had atleast confessed to DD at *that* time, Draco could've saved himself.

That said, there are high possibilities for Draco to redeem himself in Book 7--perhaps by joining the Order or by doing the 'right' thing in the end.

While he's too young to be sent to Azkaban, I doubt that he will ever be forgiven. He let Death Eaters into the school. He betrayed the trust of his teachers and classmates. He was indirectly responsible for Bill's mauling and Hagrid's house going up in flames. He put Ron and Katie Bell in the hospital.

No one could forget that in a hurry, no matter what good he did later on.

Either way, his life as the Exalted 'I'm better than Potters,Weasleys and Mudbloods' Heir of the Malfoys is over.

good point Morning Raaga... i agree that it was not entirely a case of fate going against him, but once he realised the difficulty of the task he had set out to accomplish, it must have hit him at SOME POINT OF TIME or the other, that this would have dire consequences... i'm sure, he must have been at least SUMWHAT worried about his family... after all, at the age of 16, no one is THAT detached from emotions, with the exception perhaps, of VOLDEMORT...
