Thank you for your warmth, your unwavering faith in me and your encouragement my darling. It never fails to move me ā¤ļø
You've written of so many facets Khushi so beautifully in this entire update. Her despair, her joy, her playfulness, her vulnerability, her hurt. Dadi's welcoming warmth made the absence of Khushi's parents feel even more acute. And then seeing the change of everything familiar in the home again made her feel alienated. It's strange how we always want to go back and pick up the threads in our parent's lives just as we had last left it. The comfort of the familiar. The needing of things to be just as you remembered them.
I love the respect Arnav and Khushi have for the Gupta family's faithful retainer. Respect he deserves for the care and affection he's given over the years. But it's also a wonderful reflection of their own goodness.
I was so furious at the way her parent's had treated Arnav when they first met. Just wanted to thwack both of them on their head. Being concerned about your daughter's future is one thing but this outright, narrow minded, hostility was outrageous. I'm so proud of the way Arnav conducted himself.Reasonable and polite, but firm. His mother's values shining in him. Extending respect to his Khushi's parents even in the face of such baseless bias and prejudice.
Given this, I was ready to continue hating her parents. But Harshad just made me cry. That moment when he holds out his arms for her and hugs her and twirls her was so moving. You made me feel the tender love of a father and daughter. And his sheer helplessness when he sees his daughter breaking down. That scene contrasts so beautifully with the present one. Both of a father hugging his daughter, but yet so so different. Avni just comes across as this mixture of caring and cold. Concerned one moment and callously indifferent the next. It's like her saying, I will love you as my daughter because it's expected but I can't respect you as an individual ... if that makes sense?
As for Payal, a narcissistic, spiteful waste of space! Sadly, people of her ilk are sprinkled far too liberally in our society. My Arnav totally rocks! I love him even more for the way he stood up for his wife. His barbed witticisms are just whats needed. His wife is not an easy target and everyone had better get that. Although Avni trying to ingratiate herself made me go, really?! Her phone conversation with Arnav all those weeks back must have forewarned him of it though.
Payal's son seems to be as charming as her. Your description of him was so funny! Even allowing for usual teenage behaviour and idiosyncrasies, he's just plain rude. I'm glad Khushi pulled him up on it.
But what Payal said to Khushi at the end was just plain spiteful and cruel. Nothing can justify those mean words. I can hear Arnav's "Enough" ringing in that spruced up house. The surface beauty of the house seeking to hide the ugly nature of some of it's inhabitants.
I love Dadi she's sweet, warm and she cares so much for Khushi. She shows it in her words and actions, and it's like she cocoons Khushi underneath her wing. You could feel her sadness at Khushi's hurt that her family isn't there to greet her. It hurts her to see Khushi upset, and you've demonstrated that so well. You sense that in Arnav as well, when he asks her if she's okay.
That kiss! So much passion- you're one person who doesn't need many words to set the screen on fire, and this one was no exception. I think my frustration levels rival my bechara Arnav at that damn bed. But I have to admit- I burst into laughter at Arnav's anguish, doomed to wait until they're in ah... quieter quarters, shall we say?
Oh, that change in tone! Right away, you can sense the difference in the Raizadas versus the Guptas. It was such a contrast to Khushi's first meeting with Sofia. The warmth and overwhelming love that Sofia gave her is such a difference when you see how Mr. and Mrs. Gupta reacted to Arnav. You drew up the tension between them so well- they're walking on a tightrope, just centimeters away from falling over... but Arnav, as usual, is a gentleman. He makes sure they understand how he feels for Khushi, makes no apologies- and yet, remains polite, even when they are not.
That tone carries throughout dinner with the Guptas. The dangerously polite Arnav who is protective of his wife. His little quips are amusing and so sharp, and I loved them! He doesn't hesitate to step up for Khushi, making it clear that insults against her will not be tolerated. But you also brought in the love, even with the tension simmering between Payal and Khushi. Harshad clearly adores Khushi, and her running into his arms... there's nothing that can mirror the hugs and the love from a parent, and I loved seeing that. There is clearly love there, but sometimes... people don't always prioritize what they should be prioritizing.
I cannot believe Payal- it makes it even worse that there exist people like her in real life. How Pratik addressed them and her response to it is inexcusable. JK Rowling once said that she thinks the scariest character in Harry Potter isn't Lord Vol- er, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, but rather, Professor Umbridge- because there exist people like her in the real world.
I cannot wait for Arnav to put Payal in her place. Bring it on!
Love always,
Your Choti.
