What if M Night Shyamalan made his movies in Bollywood?
Indian-origin Hollywood filmmaker M Night Shyamalan has won many hearts by giving the audience goosebumps with his weird fantasy movies. He has gone up to the threshold of Academy Awards, won several other international accolades but till date, hasn't ventured into the territory of Bollywood. But what if he had?
Let's assume Hollywood had never happened to M Night Shyamlan. What if his notable works had been in Bollywood? Here are a bunch of possible cases:
Would The Sixth Sense be called Chhata Indriya?
The Village might have been Ek Hai Gao?
Whether the concept of an isolated village cut off from the outside world would have worked with the Indian audience is debatable. But all the mystery of an ominous jungle, formidable creatures (most probably replaced by white-faced, glassy-eyed ghosts) and the romance between a blind heroine and a hunter for a hero, could have worked charms.Lady in the Water... uh, Paani Waali Aurat?
Selling the concept of mystical creatures to Bollywood loving public could have been dodgy. But then again, the story of a magical woman walking out of water and into the life of a lonely, sad man...well, it is safe to say the movie would have sold like hot cakes, considering there had been the right quotient of clothing and songs.Signs could have been just been Khet mein Preth
Crop circles aren't that well-known in our country, but farmers and their plights are. Hence, the story of a troubled farmer facing supernatural problems to top it all might just have played on people's heartstrings. Especially if it had been more about the farmer's empty plates and barren lands instead of the alien-made crop circles! And The Last Airbender twisted into RaOne 2!
All Shyamlan would have to do was add a couple of decades to the 15-year-old long-lost super hero's age, a few abs to his torso, and Shah Rukh Khan's face to the Last Airbender's sleek body. Everything else about the story would have been taken at face value. Certainly, Arjun Rampal would have to be resurrected to play Dev Patel's Bollywood version of the Fire nation's prince. But thankfully, Shyamlan's works are in Hollywood. So, let's all just hope he continues to make more of his weird movies in English.
