I feel that the boys in the contest are weaker compared to the girls. However, I remember watching the senior shows and there an equal number, if not more, of very talented guys pop up in the 17+ age-group.
Why is there so much gap this year? One of my favourite jr musical show was Chhote Ustaad and the boys were excellent and overshadowed most of the few girls..Plus I feel that the judges are trying a lot to keep at least some boys back so that it doesn't look like an all-girls show. I am sure there were girls who were better than Shubhankar and Surender who didn't make it through to the last round.
I think their voice breaks after the age of 16. Until then they sound like babies, not so suitable to sing filmy songs. Yes,Judges are trying to balance the gender in the compo- the one who can stand towards the end could be Vaishnav
