Do you think it is fair that in a movie for eg - BB where Nawazuddin who had a longer & more prominent part than Kareena is counted as a supporting role but Kareena who had such a small role get counted as the lead actress of the movie? Shouldn't harshali be the lead actress of the movie & Kareena should be called as the supporting actress.

Do you think if some newcomer actress would've played Kareena's role would she be called the leading actress too or the supporting role? Are supporting & lead roles evaluated on the basis of the bigger star in the movie?

Even in Haider for eg- Tabu should've been the lead actress ideally but she was put as the suporting role while Shraddha was called as the lead. Is it fair?

Discuss.

actually the lead actress term is associated with the heroine of the film
and by herione i mean the lady who plays the love interest of the main hero

in this case kareena is the love interest and Harshali is just a child actor so he cant termed as heroine or lead actress

That is such a wrong way to go with- if this is how they see it in BW. Then lead actor should be the male love interest in films too. Mary Kom's husband/ Piku's BF should've been lead actors too then.

The above may be your/award people's definition of the lead actress but the actual meaning is the actress who plays the protagonist.
A leading actor, leading actress, star, or simply lead, plays the role of the protagonist of a film or play.[1] The word lead may also refer to the largest role in the piece.

^ that is the actual definition and according to it, Harshali was the lead.

No ,not at all fair .
For me leads must be the ones who are the prominent characters in the story and story is mostly woven around them.So the lead actress is the one whose character finds an important place in the story .
So Tabu in Haider was the lead for me ,even though I'm a big fan of Kangy I felt Tabu deserved all the lead awards .Same for Harshali and Nawaz.
Kareena in BB was a supporting role ,she's absent throughout the crucial part of the story same goes for Shraddha she was a mere supporting role
and I think it's wrong to hail love interests as leads ,it's also not compulsory for every film to have both lead actor and lead actress like in MaryKom PC was main lead and her hubby was a supporting role same way in Don,Dhoom,Krish guys are main lead and girls are in a supporting role

P.S:PC says the same and I respect and applaud her for that

In India lead actress means heroine!

And all other roles no matter how much important are supporting!
