Vivian Dsena: There's no appreciation for sportsmen in India except for cricketers

Not so sporting

He might be a well-known actor today but not many people know that Vivian Dsena has also been a National level football player. And it comes as a surprise that Vivian didn't take up sports as a full-time career. "In Indian sports, there's more of politics than sports. I've faced it, so I chose to take up a career which has a bigger perspective and more creativity, in which there is appreciation at the end of the day. And there's no appreciation for sportsmen in India except for cricketers," says Vivian who was in Lucknow recently.

Dance with me

Vivian says he's become quite choosy about his projects after his show 'Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon' ended. "After Madhubala got over, I heard a few projects but I didn't like any. I was looking for something new on television. Finally, I said yes to 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded' this time, though I have been refusing it for the past two seasons," says Vivian.

Father figure? Nah!

Ask Vivian if his reputation of being haughty and arrogant in real life is preventing him from getting work? "Well, I don't think that's getting in way of my work at all. In both my shows, Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani and Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, I played my character of a serious and an arrogant guy so convincingly that people think I'm like that in real life too. It's just that I'm not too social and I am too choosy about what I do. Like for example, actors my age are playing fathers, but I'm not ready to play a father on screen to someone who's around my age only. I don't think I look like a father. My contemporaries are doing it, good for them," he says.

So true ! Except for cricket no other sports is given any importance and fault also lies with media as they never showed other sports so enthusiastically as cricket and that's why other sports never get recognition plus they never give good salary to other sports people like how its given to cricket people . forget in crores they don't even get in lakhs 🥱

And yes there is politics in every sports from money to selection 😕

I completely agree with his view about politics. 👏Sports in India has been badly infected by politicians which includes cricket too. 🥱 But only cricketers get appreciation is due to the fact that cricket is managed and presented to the viewer as a finished product. Although corrupt to the top, BCCI thinks cricket as a business that they dont want to face loss thats why they do anything to promote and make cricket more popular. Since 1983 when india won first WC, BCCI saw an oppurtunity to capture an emerging market and they did it successfully. Since then they are doing fantastic job of promoting cricket and whatever problems happens it happens off the field, On the field people still love cricket like mad because of the work BCCI did in past 2/3 decades. And with IPL there is now scope for small cricketers too whole cant make it to national level.
Other associations dont even bother about anything. 👎🏼 We had I league for so many years but very few people know it. It took some private companies like STAR, Reliance to promote other sports and create International leagues. The Indian Super League has been started to promote football has been doing brilliantly but without any govt support.

Sorry for the long essay.😆
