Thank you for posting this link. Yes there are a couple of diagnostic tests that have been recently developed but are still not regulated. To date the genetic testing of fetus is done by either amnio or CVS regulated tests for proper confirmation. Even for the diagnostic, it is quite a bit of lab involved, where the blood is to be treated in a specific way so as to derive a larger sample of fetus DNA. It however is not done Ekta style that a doctor comes to home to collect the sample.
Being involved in lot of medical product regulation, it is worrisome how things happen at certain places. For example, when all lab testing companies send their techs to home for sample collection, God knows how much care is taken about the storage of samples, sterile collection of sample, care of the patient, transport of the sample- whether higher temperatures would degrade the sample, use of sharps, proper disposal of sharps, then testing of the sample with proper labels, writing the report and informing the patient about the results. I have seen examples where there are mistakes from very first step to the last step. With the availability of Internet and so much emphasis on education, we all- from Ekta maiya to us as viewers- should take medical science very seriously. Question based on the common sense. If you see a sheet covering the patient bench in a private hospital, ask to remove the sheet as you don't know if it was changed after the previous patient, ask for disposable covers, ask for hand sanitizers, object if you see paramedical help not washing/cleaning their hands. Be a good citizen as that is the only way we can progress definitely not Munna bhai style ( i understand it was a fun movie).
Sorry for the long post, my views have nothing to do with the entertainment from these soap sagas, just thought of putting my view point to the fellow forum people and share the general knowledge that I was fortunate to obtain from my profession.
