Asian Age:Negative characters are fun'

Aditi Gupta is enjoying playing the devious Sanam in Qubool Hai because according to her, grey characters do not have any baggage

After playing Miss Goody Two Shoes in quite a few shows, Aditi Gupta seems to have finally come to her own as Sanam, the black magic practising, sinister second wife of Aahil in Qubool Hai. And she has become immensely popular as well.

Talking about the role, Aditi says, "Initially I was a bit skeptical about this negative character as I felt that it would be slightly difficult for me to portray. But after giving it a thought, I decided to go for it and gave them the green signal. And now I am enjoying it.

"A negative character does not have a baggage, unlike a positive one. While I find performing the role highly challenging, at the same time I am having a lot of fun." Instead of being mentally tortured by nasty in-laws and fighting off vamps who are trying to steal her husband in previous shows, Aditi is now busy sticking pins into a doll and getting her on-screen husband, who happens to be the Nawab of Bhopal do exactly what she wants him to do.

While nobody like Sanam in reel life, she is good friends with her co-stars in real life. Talking about the atmosphere on the sets, she says, "On the sets we are very friendly. Whenever we get time we sit and joke around. We are all on the same wave length..." In fact the entire cast decided to bond with each other on a rare day off and went to an amusement park, where for a change it were the rides and not Sanam who was responsible for their shrieks.

Unlike most negative character on TV who tend to go overboard with their acting, Aditi plays the modern day evil, sorceress with aplomb. When asked how she does this, she says, "I am not a trained actor," adding, "I am still learning to act. And if you think that the quality is in-born in me, then I really feel on top of the world right now." Aditi reveals that her co-stars continue to crack-up every time she is meant to enact a scene depicting her doing black magic. "But the good thing is that they let me know when I have gone a bit over-board and also compliment me when I have nailed the scene."

Thanks to the negative character, she plays, Aditi has been trolled a lot on social media. And she likes it. She says, "I get the worst possible comments on social media. But it makes me feel good as I feel that I am playing my part well."

She is not evil in real life, but Aditi laughingly reveals that some of on-screen characteristics seem to be rubbing off on her at home. "My mother finds me throwing Sanam (her character) kind of tantrums at home. Usually after shooting for long hours I do tend to be rude to mom. It's then that she says, You are becoming Sanam in real... please do your Sanam giri only on the sets'. But on the sets I am actually very cool and do not throw any tantrums."

Aditi, who is not doing any other show owing to her 25-day schedule, tells her fans on a parting note: "Please do not hate me... I am not like Sanam. I am a very amicable girl, so please don't be rude to me if you ever bump into me."
