| You can expect a major change on almost all General Entertainment Channels soon. While several soaps are being taken off air soon, there are some that have been given an ultimatum by the channels to buck up or else be prepared to go off air. As a result, your favourite soap operas are all set for some major twists and turns. Here's a peek into the drama. Ek Ladki Anjani Si Ek Ladki Anjani Si, the Hindi adaptation of the highly successful Venezuelan Juana La Virgen, is coming to its logical end or so feels the head of Shreya Creations, Sheel Kumar. He admits that the story has gone on and on, and adds, "The fact that it has served its time makes me a happy man." And what can we expect at the end of the longest running serial on Sony? "A happy ending, what else?" laughs Kumar. The Creative Head of the show, Misha Gautam, reveals that Dhruv dies, Ananya and Nikhil unite, and everybody lives happily ever after. Misha was tight-lipped when asked to reveal the date of the final episode. Kasautii Zindagi Kay Yet another Balaji serial, Kasautii Zindagi Kay, rumoured to go off air in three months' time, has added a twist in its tale. Prerna and Anurag are set to rekindle their relationship, and Mr Bajaj will be re-introduced into the show. When we asked the Creative Head of the series, Doris Dey to comment on why the serial is shutting shop she said "I have no knowledge of Kasautii Zindagi Kay shutting down, so I am no one to comment on anything further". Well it seems she is shying away from telling us the truth. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Speaking of endings, the longest running saas-bahu series, in fact, the pioneer of all mangalsutra maladies, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, does not seem to be reaching its end, logical or otherwise. Creative head of Kyunki, Nivedita Basu, expresses surprise, when asked if the serial was coming to an end - "Kyunki is not winding up in the years to come." But yes, there are surprises lined up. Viruddh Viruddh may go off air, soon, if television gossip is to be believed. However, Smriti Irani, the producer of the show, sent us a SMS saying, "My show is not going off air so I cannot comment on it, but the serial will have an interesting story line." A sprucing up act was required if the show had to go on, so one can expect a lot more drama. Mamta Shreya Creations may have to pull another serial, Mamta, off air, according to the television rumour mills. However, the Creative Head of Mamta, Anumeha, denies and calls it a baseless rumour, "We have taken a yearly leap. We have also introduced new characters to avoid the monotony of the serial and we have taken up a new set also. So there is no reason for the show to wrap up." But why does a serial go off air and sometimes in such a hurry? Neeraj Grover, Creative Head of Shreya Creations' Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hain, believes it is all about the TRPs. He says, "When a channel is unhappy with the TRPs of a show, they ask the production house to wrap it up, because there is a cut throat battle for TRPs." this is when the production house may opt to revamp the show, or at least, add an unexpected twist. Anumeha says, "If a channel discovers a better serial, it replaces an older serial. What is important is to end the show with a major drama." https://www.deccan.com/TV%20Guide/TV%20GuideDescription.asp#S inger%20No.%201 |
