Thanx Abhay for the effort u put into researching and sharing with us these gems from akbar's life. I don't think there ever was a king in India who showed that much tolerance and liberalism towards any other religion. He was way ahead of his times. It is a pity that his own grandchildren n great grandchildren used religion to advance. He proves to all that being a literate is not about being able to read and write but being able to respect all views and opinions and thoughts regardless of whether they r what you have been taught from childhood or not. I wish people of our generation could learn from him. Even today we are here fighting on basis of religion and here was a king so many years ago who was able to see beyond such petty issues and unite the country.

This post reflects an important side of Akbar's personality. He had multiple shades. Till date i am trying to understand him. Reading this post, it gives a great impression. :)

Will keep posting. More posts are coming in future. Will look forward to more views there. ;)

Hi Abhay, Nice post again. U r doing a commendable job by digging deep n giving us some beautiful information about this wonderful n lovely couple. Before coming to this forum, I used to like them n curious to know about them. Even though I read 1 r 2 references about MUZ , I came to know about her with ur blog n posts. this is great work👏👏. thanks a lot for this info about AKBAR. We all know about AKBAR's religious tolerance . Even though he faced severe criticism from his own religion, he never backed off from his policies. Some people say quite easily that he did all these to placate the Hindus. But if we c his strategies n power, we can understand this point that if he really didn't want to be liberal in his policies towards all his subjects, he could have done that also. Then also he would have ruled Hindustan. Strong example for this is Aurangazeb. Even though he is an orthodox person n believed in his religion only, he also ruled for somany years. AKBAR has done all these things because he has a different perspective n he really loved n cared for this land n people very much. He really had that desire n vision to unite the people of this country. He was really ahead of not only his times, but also our times. Because even in this 21st century also people r really trying to divide people wit the help of caste, community n religion. People r not backing off from killing others also for religion. If u compare him with other rulers, we can find very few people who were really broadminded, considerate towards other religions. We cannot ignore MUZ's contribution in this regard. I can clearly understand n believe this that they really shared a beautiful bond some thing which is so special. They faced somany obstacles in their path, they even met with personal tragedies like loosing their grown up children, even though they r SH n MEH they also faced the opposition n insults of their own relatives for their religious tolerance n liberal policies. I also read in one r two books in my native language (i.e. telugu, n those accounts r very much criticism ) that RUKS along with Badayouni used to criticize them for this. Is it true? did she do this? 😡 I really would like to know about this . If u know anything regarding this pls. make a post. Thank u once again for ur beautiful post.

Thanks for the views Soumya. I agree with the points raised here. Though, Akbar is one figure, about whom it is not possible to judge from one angle. At different point of times in his lives, he had a variety of actions, so it becomes difficult to judge him in one category, as we saw in the recent Chittor post also. :)

About MUZ's role in Akbar's life, or vice versa, i would say - Every person is a product of influences of various agencies.

About Ruqs, i have similar points posted on the blog too by some readers. I was searching the link of the comments. No doubt about what the Telugu account said. :)

Vinita,
Thanks for the views.
I agree with what you wrote, but i want to add something.
:)

As far as tolerance is concerned there are many other names as well, though they have not received adequate publicity in history. Religion has been used by many people to attain political dividends, Akbar was no exception. {Case in point, my latest Chittor Post.}

The last Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji was fighting the religious oppression of Aurangzeb, though he declared his fight is against the tyrant(Adharmi) not the religion(Dharm) of tyrant.

Though, Akbar massacred 1000's in the name of "Holy war" in Chittor and his army indulged in acts which can't be stated here, yet Pratap did not retaliate in similar fashion against other religion. Even Rahim's wives who were captured were released with complete respect by him.

There are very few people who have managed to stay away from the temptation of using religion to reap political dividends and maintain moral character at the same time. Akbar had fine policies, though not initially. He did invoke religious angles at a number of places.

Thanks Vinita. I saw the page few days back , though missed replying to you. Lot of information is present there.

BTW, There seems to be some STRONG editing competition going on. :-P
I also checked the Wikipedia page of Ruqayya Begum and there a painting has been posted, which says it is of Akbar and Ruqayya. But in reality that is a Rasika-Priya painting made by Keshavdas in 17th Century. :-P
