Chapter 20

For the first time in all these months, I truly felt guilty for not approaching her. Maybe if I found her earlier, she wouldn't have to feel so bad and wouldn't be suffering so much. Maybe I would have been able to be there to console her, to talk her out of this.

"I've been around," I answered. "But Sanyukta... is this a reason to miss classes?"

"You noticed?" she asked me, sounding shocked.

"Yeah, I mean... if period girl doesn't show up to class it's a reason to celebrate - I watch out for it everyday," I teased lightly with a smirk.

"I knew it! This was too good to be true! Jerk!" she yelled, and I smiled softly - at least her focus was shifted now.

"We have exams coming up next week," I said to her. "Have you studied?"

She shook her head.

"Want to study together?" I asked her.

She shook her head again.

"I just want to get drunk," she responded sadly.

"Is that a solution to anything? Look, I know you're upset and everything - but you've got class tomorrow and -" I started

"I'm not going," she replied. "I just want to cry and I need time to deal with this."

"He isn't worth your tears!" I told her, feeling myself get furious. "Nor is he worth your grades!"

"It's easy to say, but I can't do anything, I can't focus on anything... Randhir, I feel so bad," she cried. "I just got broken up with, how can I be happy?"

"I'm not saying be happy, I'm just saying to take care of the other things in your life too!" I argued.

"You don't understand Randhir! I bet you have never even felt this way for someone before," she snapped.

I sighed deeply. If she wanted to be miserable, then that was fine. The least I could do was join her.

"Where's the alcohol?" I asked her.

"My room," she murmured in response. "You want to drink with me?"

I nodded.

"Yeah, come on, let's go," I said and then stood up and held my hand out for her to take.

She looked up at me with surprise before taking my hand and standing up. When her hand touched mine, I shivered, feeling a surge of electricity run up my spine. Then she let go of my hand and started to walk ahead of me.

"Be careful, nobody should see," she said.

"Don't worry," I told her, "Just walk."

Then my phone beeped and I saw that Ishika texted me: where u at baby .. i'm waiting for u with no clothes on ; )

I put my phone away and continued to follow Sanyukta, Ishika's message having no effect on me.

Chapter 21

As soon as we made it into her room and she took out a huge bottle of vodka, I had second thoughts. I wasn't sure whether this was right for her or not - last time, this girl couldn't control her alcohol intake, and if she was going to drink again, then she might not remember tonight either.

"Do you remember how you forgot everything last time?" I asked her. "Do you want a repeat of that night?"

"I'd love to forget everything," she said in response.

This girl was crazy.

I looked at the door and went to make sure it was locked while she opened the bottle.

"Sanyukta are you sure?" I asked her, "You know, there are other ways to deal with things."

"Like?" she asked me.

I walked up to her and took the bottle away from her and placed it on her desk. Then I held on to her shoulders for a split second before pulling her body towards mine and embracing her warmly.

I felt her melt in my arms.

"Like this," I whispered into her ear

"H - how is this a cure for anything?" she asked me, her hands falling limply on her sides.

"Does this feel good?" I asked her, rubbing small circles on her back.

"It feels so nice," she admitted.

"Then it's a cure," I pointed out.

"But you're going to have to let go," she whispered. "And then it won't feel good anymore... so this is temporary."

"So is alcohol - your buzz will wear off and you'll be brought back down to reality," I said into her ear, causing her to shiver against me.

"I still want to drink," she whispered. "Please Randhir."

Then I let go of her and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, my fingertips brushing over her cheeks lightly. She looked up into my eyes, and I couldn't help but lose myself in hers. She was beautiful.

"I won't say no," I responded, "You're free to do what you like... I'll be here with you while you do it."

Her eyes filled with tears as soon as I said that and she took a deep breath.

"You know, ever since the day I first kissed Sameer, I didn't kiss him. I only hugged him... but even that I did rarely," she whispered to me.

"Why?" I asked her with surprise.

"I wanted to see if he wanted be with me for my body or if he really liked me... and... I didn't really want to kiss him," she admitted. "I liked him but... but... I don't know why, the thought of kissing him never turned me on."

"It's okay... you didn't need to kiss him," I told her softly. "It's better you didn't."

"But I kissed him once, that day..." she told me, "I wish he hadn't stolen my first kiss."

How could I tell her that Sameer wasn't her first kiss? Her first kiss had been me... she just didn't remember it.

"Who do you wish you kissed instead?" I asked her.

"I don't know," she responded, looking down, then she looked up as if she had an idea, "Randhir... can you kiss me?"

"What?" I yelped, surprised with this sudden request. "Why?"

"Maybe if I kiss someone else, I can get over him," she replied sincerely, "Please Randhir."

"Sanyukta, don't be silly, rebounds never work!" I told her like she was out of her mind.

"Come on - kissing you doesn't actually seem as bad as I thought it would seem," she urged.

"Sanyukta, you are crazy," I responded to her, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her. "Drinking isn't a solution, neither is kissing other people!"

"Please?" she then asked and pouted, and I couldn't help but feel my heart drop as I watched her.

How could I tell her that I really wanted to kiss her, and I was struggling so much to say no to her right now... but if she kissed me, it wouldn't do her any good.
