'Good morning everyone!' Their new class teacher greeted the class. Pari was still closing her eyes with fear. Her voice was pleasant but Pari was still scared to open her eyes.
'Okay guys. Let me introduce myself first. I am Miss. Geetanjali Handa, your new class teacher.' She smiled brightly. Pari opened her eyes slowly. There she saw her new class teacher standing in front of the class. She looked so beautiful & young, probably around 25 years of age. Pari was quite impressed by the first sight.
'Geet what? 'Geet tanjalei..? The kids were a little bit confused with her name. Of course they would find difficult to pronounce it, since their class teacher is not an Aussie. She was an Indian.
She smiled at her students who were trying to pronounce her name correctly. The toddlers were hell confused.
'Okay okay guys! Just call me Miss. Geet, okay?' She smiled brightly. 'Whoa! she has the same name of my mommy!' Pari self thought. Happiness was blooming inside her. Although Pari has never seen her mom for real or even a photograph, she knew her name was Geet.
'Thank you Mommy! you have sent a lovely teacher with the same name! She seems to be good' Pari closed her eyes & silently thanked her mother. Then her class teacher asked each student to introduce their selves.
Finally after much anticipation Pari's turn came. Since she was afraid of her new teacher she seated in a corner of the back row. She was the last student to introduce herself.
'Hello Geet ma'am. I'm Pari' She introduced herself with a bright smile. Geet was staring at the cute little girl who was standing in front of her. She has managed to steal her heart by the first glance. Geet couldn't take off her eyes from Pari who looked like a little angel.
Geet felt that Pari is familiar. It was an unexplained feeling. She has never felt such a thing when she talked with the other students. Her appearance & talk took her to back to her past for a while.
'If our baby is a girl, let's name her as Pari.' His voice echoes in her mind. Geet was lost in her dark memories. A tear formed in her eyes unknowingly. Pari was looking at her teacher confused. Why she is in tears? Pari noticed it.
'Umm.. ma'am?' Pari's voice brought Geet back to normal. She quickly wiped her eyes, trying to conceal her sorrow on her dark history. 'Wow Pari you have got a beautiful name. Are you from India?''
'Thank you ma'am.' 'My parents are from India. I am from Melbourne.' She replied with a smile. 'And my daddy has put this name.'
'That is so cute.' Geet smiled.
In the next few hours Geet taught the class in a very interesting manner. Soon Pari started liking her. She was like Mrs. Smith, or may be a tad bit better than her. Mrs. Smith was middle aged & Miss. Geet is still in her twenties, so she handled the class more actively. The first day of the new term wasn't bad as little Pari expected.
After the school bell rang in the afternoon soon the class became empty. All the students went off except little Pari. She was sitting on her desk, reading a book. Geet noticed her & went towards her.
'Hey Pari, aren't you going home?'
'Geet ma'am?' Pari stood up.
'Arey just sit down. Why are you staying here? the school bell rang ten minutes back.'
' Waiting till daddy comes to pick me.'
'Oh. So when will he come?.'
'I don't know. He usually gets late.' Pari chuckled.
'Late? why is that?'
'Because he is so busy with his work. Sometimes he comes to pick me up but sometimes I go home with my friend Amy. I mean Amelia. Amy is sick, so she couldn't attend the classes today. She is down with the flu.
'Aww sorry to hear about your friend. Hope she gets well soon.' Geet smiled.
'So where is your mom? can't she come and pick you on time?'
'No! she cannot come either.'
'Oh okay.' Without asking further questions about her family Geet took a packet of Oreos from her bag & offered it to Pari.
'Oreos?' Pari's eyes shone brightly after seeing her favourite biscuit.
'Yeah, would you like to have some?' Geet smiled.
Pari nodded shyly. 'It is my favourite.' 'But ma'am is it okay to have.. from your...'
'Don't be shy! just take one & may be more after it. I know you are hungry now.' Geet patted her back.
'Thank you Geet ma'am.' Pari smiled brightly. Geet stared at her while Pari was enjoying Oreos. Pari reminded her of her past life. She was confused why she cannot get out from that feeling that Pari is related to her.
'May be because of her name. My lost baby daughter.' Geet self thought trying her very best to hide her tears. Or may be because she is an Indian like me. You would feel related obviously, if you meet somebody from your nationality in a far away country.
Geet leaned down Pari & started caressing her hair. Pari was enjoying her last Oreo. Unknowingly this little girl has finished the whole pack.
'Oops!' Pari realized the big mistake she had done. She looked down with embarrassment. Geet noticed it & smiled at her.
'Umm.. ma'am.. I.. I'm so sorry.'
'Sorry? what for?' Geet chuckled.
'For finishing off the biscuit packet.' She made a puppy face. Geet was staring at her innocent face. She cupped her face.
'I won't forgive you!' She winked.
'What? why?' 'I''m so sorry Geet ma'am. It was so delicious & I was kind of hungry too. Please don't think that I'm greedy. I'm really sorry.'
Geet kept smiling. Pari was confused. She was a bit of scared too. What if she becomes evil at once? because she simply finished off her teacher's biscuit packet.
'I'm sorry!' Pari held her ears from her hands seeking forgiveness from her teacher.
Geet smiled at her cute antics. She removed her tiny hands from her ears placed her hands around Pari's shoulders.
'You haven't done anything wrong sweetheart. So why should I forgive you.?' Geet chuckled.
'But.. but ma'am'
'It's okay! it is not a mistake. Eating is not a crime. I'm so glad that my packet of Oreos satisfied your hunger.' She smiled.
Wow! what an amazing teacher. If it was someone else she would have punished for sure. Pari thought. It was so sweet of her teacher.
'Pari! your daddy has arrived. He is at the gate.' She heard one of her classmates were screaming outside loudly, conveying the message to Pari.
'Oops! I gotta go now. Daddy has come to pick me.' Pari took her bag.
'Ma'am, would you like to meet my daddy.?'
'Oh yeah I would like to.' Geet replied with a smile. Geet wanted to meet that lucky father whom her cute talkative student belongs to.
'But please ma'am don't tell daddy that I finished your packet of Oreos okay?' Pari requested innocently reminding how usually the teachers are excited to report bad about students to their parents.
'I won't tell about it.' Geet winked.
'Pinky promise?'
'Yeah pinky promise!' Geet smiled. She has never been so close with a student. That too in the first day itself, they met each other a few hours back. Pari too felt much comfortable with her new teacher.
Geet cupped little Pari's face & she wiped the remaining bits of Oreos around her lovingly. Geet was staring at Pari's eyes. She saw her long lost soulmate in her eyes. She was trying to ignore those feelings but she couldn't control herself. She felt lots of similarities between Pari & him.
Soon they were interrupted by a voice. It was Mrs. Phelps, the vice principal of the school. Pari stood up quickly & greeted Mrs. Phelps.
'Good afternoon Mrs. Phelps.' Pari smiled.
'Oh hi there Pari, I think your dad is waiting for you at the gate.'
'Yes, I shall go now.'
'Miss. Handa, how was the class?'
'It was quite amazing Mrs. Phelps. I think the students will soon adopt to my teaching pattern.' Geet smiled confidently.
'That's good to hear. By the way meet me at the office as soon as possible, we need to discuss about the new syllabus which is scheduled to be taught for the students & also I think you should be informed about the system of our school. You are aware of the staff meeting which is yet to start at 3 pm right?'
'Yes Mrs. Phelps, I will be there by sharp 3.'
'Good! see you there then.' Mrs. Phelps left the premises.
'Pari, I'm sorry. Right now I have to go to the staff room.' I will meet your dad some other day okay?.She patted her back.
'No ma'am. I won't forgive you!' Pari winked.
Geet widened her eyes with a confusion.
'Because you have done nothing wrong' Pari giggled going through what exactly her teacher told her a few minutes back.
Then both of they shared a laughter.
'Smart girl!' Geet patted her back.
'Okay. I'm getting late. See you tomorrow ma'am. Good bye.'
'Good bye Pari. Take care.'
Pari bade good bye to her new class teacher & ran towards the gate to meet her father who has come to pick her up.
'Daddy!' Pari hugged her father. Maan noticed the happiness in his daughter's eyes. Nobody could understand Pari as much as her father. Maan could notice the slightest change of her mood. Today his daughter seems to be so happy. Both of the got in to the car.
'Honey how was school today?' He inquired.
'Awesome!!!' Pari screamed with joy.
'Whoa! that sounds cool. So how is your new teacher?'
'That's the best thing happened today!' Pari giggled. Maan was relieved to see his little girl happy.
'Told you! you got a good class teacher right?' Maan winked.
'No daddy! she is not good.'
'What?' Maan was confused.
'Daddy! she is the BEST!' Pari giggled.
'Wow that's great to hear. So is she better than Mrs. Smith?'
'Well, she is attractive than Mrs. Smith & she has a very good heart.' ' But I miss Mrs. Smith.' Pari smiled.
Maan smiled at his daughter listening to the comparison between the two teachers.
'I'm so glad that you got a wonderful class teacher!' Maan smiled. What always mattered him was his daughter's happiness.
'You know what? She is also an Indian.' Pari was happy that she got a teacher as the same nationality as her, as Pari was the only child who is an Indian in her class.
'Guess what daddy? she has the same name as mommy!' Pari giggled.
It made Maan numb for a while. 'Same name?'
'Yeah she is Geet.' Pari smiled brightly. That name brought tears in Maan's eyes. He was deeply connected with that name. Pari noticed the changes in her father's face. He gets emotional whenever she reminds him of her mother. Pari didn't want to make her father sad.
'Sorry daddy!' 'I know you miss mommy so much!' She tried to console her father.
'It's okay baby!' Maan smiled amidst tears. Maan remembered the incident happened in the morning. He saw someone like the one he used to love more than his life, his past.
Pari continued her jabber about her new class teacher. Maan was happy to hear that finally somebody has made his baby girl happy. Whoever it is, may be like Pari's mom. She has the same name, & the qualities were kind of similar too. But he knew that nobody could ever replace Pari's mom. Maan got a lot of proposals even after knowing that he has a little daughter but he refused to get married as he knew that nobody could ever replace his soulmate. And also he could give all the love to her, nobody was needed to be there.
Geet reached home late after attending the staff meeting & on the way she went to buy some groceries. She was staying at her friend Meera's place in Melbourne.
'Geet! how was your day? How was the new school?'
'It was great!' Geet replied with a smile.
'Thank god! I was a bit worried for you!'
'Don't worry Meera. I am doing fine. I thoroughly enjoy my life as a teacher.'
'I know! you love children & you have so much of patience to handle them!' Meera chuckled.
'Thankfully I'm not a teacher! hell I can't handle kids! they are so annoying sometimes.' Meera muttered. She worked as an accountant.
' Hahaha but handling kids are so much easier than balancing those accounts!' Geet smiled sarcastically.
After dinner, Geet settled down on the bed with a book. She has the habit of reading something before she goes to sleep. But today her mind was stuck with Pari. She couldn't resist thinking of her cute little student. She cannot control her feelings that Pari is related to her. She has interacted with so many kids but she has never felt like this.
Pari's name holds a special place in her heart. It was connected by her heart & soul. She got up & opened her cupboard & took a bag which contained her precious memories. It has been secured with her for the past 6 years.
She took a pink babies' sweater out of it. She gently caressed it. Tears formed in her eyes. It was crocheted by her.
'Pari. Baby why did you leave me?' She started weeping. Then she took a photograph which made her more emotional. The person she loved more than her life. He is no longer a part of her life. He has started a new life with someone else.
She wondered why the destiny was so cruel for her. She re called her past how she used to spend time with him as lovers. They were deeply in love. He gifted her another life. Their symbol of love was growing inside her, but unfortunately their junior was not fortunate enough to live. After that her life was changed drastically.
She heard the melodious sound of the wind chime which was dancing with the sheer window curtain. The cool breeze soothed her mind. She felt him. She went near the window. She stared at the wind chime for a while. It holds a special place in her heart as it was gifted by the most important person in her life. But she knew that he is so much far away from her, both physically & mentally. She knows that he is somebody else's now but she simply couldn't forget him. She still loved him & will love till her last breath & beyond her life.
Her eyes were almost moisturized with tears. She closed her eyes hugging the photograph & the baby sweater.
'Wish I could have both of you back in my life.' ' I know my Pari is too far away from me, in the heaven. But at least you Maan. Please come back to me! Bring back my Pari to me.' 'I'm not being selfish. I know that you no longer belongs to me, but I can't live without you'
