Gunjan was wearing a dress, her apron damp and full of powdery stuff. Her hair was tied up and twirled to one side. Her specs were on the side table. She was making a salad and chicken pakodas.
Samrat entered the hall, fresh from his late morning slumber. He, pretending to read a paper, silently observed his wife and daughter daughter. He smiled naughtily.
He kept the paper down on the dinning table and silently tiptoed to the live counter. Gunjan didnt hear him, engrossed in her work.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, his chin on her shoulder, and hugged her. She gasped and looked sideways at him. He rubbed noses with her and she blushed. Trying to wriggle free, she applied wheat on his face. Undeterred, he rubbed his cheek with hers and kissed her. She got startled then gave him a tap on his nose. He smiled and pulled her cheek gently. She managed to free herself and turned around. He pushed forward and cupped her face.
She got lost in his gaze, her fingers entwined with his shirt buttons. He winked and she blushed and glanced away. He took her face again and kissed her forehead. She closed her eyes and suddenly fell into his arms, hugging him tightly. He cuddled her back, slowly swinging her with himself. She put her head to his chest, hearing his heartbeat and smiled.
She remembered the old days of college and the moments spent with him.
He closed his eyes, his face content, his heart at peace.
Suddenly the couple heard sajani. The baby whimpered in her hazy sleep. The couple broke apart, all the dirt of her apron on his shirt.
Amazed, they laughed and then hurried to the little cot. Samrat picked his daughter up and gave her a few pats. Sajani gurgled and burped back to sleep on her dad's chest. Gunjan encircled her husband and daughter with her arms. She kissed sajani's cheek and then rested her head beside her daughter on samrat's shoulder.
Samrat smiled, gazing at the two angels in his life.
The kid fell asleep and gunjan took her gently and laid her in the cot. Samrat leant forward and kissed his daughter. Then he took gunjan in his arms. Leaning backwards on to him, gunjan smiled at him. Samrat and gunjan them leant their heads at each other, their arms around each other sideways.
Samrat silently thanked god for this peace. Gunjan silently asked god to keep her little family safe and healthy.
The couple then looked at each other and smiled.
Then he whispered something into her ear and she gasped and looked at him. Blushing she looked away. He took her chin and slowly moved his face closer to hers. She was lost once again in his gaze. Full of anticipation , she waited. He took her face gently and planted his lips on hers. She surrendered as he completely surrounded his arms around her.
They kissed each other on lips and hung on there for a while.
