When Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar made their humble beginnings on the road to superstardom

Tue, June 23, 2015 9:00am IST by Sreeju Sudhakaran

Not everyone has the super-glitzy debut...

There is a saying that for a metal to be strong, it has to pass the test of fire. There's another that diamond has to be coal first to become the precious gem that it is now. The same applies to some of the huge superstars that we have in our industry. Not everyone of them has got a super hot debut like say, Fardeen Khan, Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan and even Ranbir Kapoor, where they headline the cast. Yet it's their persistence and commitment that made them what they are today.

You must have all heard how Sylvester Stallone had made his debut in a po*n film before he made big in Hollywood. Well, none of these below actors and actresses have made their any debut in any such objectionable content, but their start is not something you would imagine it to be. So let's celebrate the success of these actors who are superstars now based on their gritty determination and steely resolve to reach top. there is a lesson or two for us to learn in here...

P.S. - This has nothing to do with any appearances as child artistes.

Amitabh Bachchan

It took a Zanjeer to make us find our first angry young man superstar in AB. It took an Anand before that to make us realise he was a good actor. But how many knew he made his debut as one of the heroes in a little known patriotic film called Saat Hindustani? Though he was a part of the ensemble, his role of a poetic soldier was noticed and he won the National award for the best debut in this film.

Aamir Khan

It's a known trivia that Aamir Khan made his debut with Ketan Mehta's 1984 film Holi, that had senior actors like Naseerudin Shah, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Deepti Naval and Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, along with young debutantes who will later be big names in Bollywood. Namely, Ashutosh Gowariker, Neeraj Vora, Rahul Ranade, Amole Gupte, Raj Zutshi and of course, Aamir. Holi was also the first film where Aamir had the first of many kisses he shared with his heroines (Raja Hindustani, anyone?), beginning with the now popular television actress Kitu Gidwani.

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan could be the only television actor to make a highly successful transition to films, with the exception of Vidya Balan (Sushant Singh Rajput, you still have time...). But it was neither Deewana nor Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, that was his first film. That credit goes to the Arundhati Roy's indie flick In Which Annie Gives It To Those Ones, where he was just more than an extra with a couple of scenes in his name. From a bit two scene role to the global icon that he is today, that's quite a journey...

Salman Khan

Salmans fans must be knowing that the popular actor's first film was not Maine Pyar Kiya. His first film was Biwi Ho To Aisi, where he played the supporting role of the hero, late Farooque Shaikh's bratty younger brother, who is turned nice by his sister-in-law, Rekha. Watch his crazy dance in the below video.

Akshay Kumar

Though it took several films for Akki to be the superstar that he is now, his first film was a huge flop in Saugandh. But he did a film before that - a little known 1989 Kumar Gaurav film Aaj, where he made a seven second appearance as a karate instructor!

Shahid Kapoor

Among the younger generation, there is Shahid Kapoor, who was once popular for his appearance in the Aryans' music video Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra, where he played a scrawny geek in love. Before he made a successful debut as a hero in Ishq Vishk, he made a blink-and-you-miss appearance in Aishwarya's Taal in the song Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jawe.

Irrfan Khan

Irrfan is one of our very few true crossover stars, having received wide appreciation in A Mighty Heart, The Namesake, Life of Pi, while also appearing in Hollywood biggies like Jurassic World and Inferno. Before he became a critically acclaimed movie star, he was a very popular television actor. However his first onscreen credit was a minute long appearance in Salaam Bombay where he played a letter-writer.
