"Maa, please do it fast! We're getting late." I yelled on top of my voice motioning Di to pack some stuff fast. It was 8:40 now! And we were to board the flight to Delhi at 10! The airport was just 15 - 20 minutes away. But, it could even take 2 hours to reach there. Yes, the traffic over here can be anyone's enemy. But now we were getting late only because of... me! And maybe Maa and Di too?
Yesterday night Di had reminded me to set the alarm for 6:50 am. I was so engrossed in talking to Reena, my friend for whose marriage we're going to Delhi, that I took the alarm clock turned it to somewhere between 6 and 7 and kept it on the side table. We slept "peacefully", and also were till Di heard a vessel fall in the kitchen. She woke up, checked the time and to her, or maybe our shock it was 8:25 am. It was then it striked me that I hadn't turn on the alarm.
And now we were getting delayed because Maa was preparing Aloo Parathas for me and Gobi Parathas for Di, for our journey.
"Take this," she said stuffing the tiffins in our handbag "And listen," she said holding me and Di by our arms, all teary eyed "Take care of yourselves. Eat on time.. Sleep on time.. And yeah, call me daily okay?" She asked turning all emotional, to which we nodded and hugged her tightly.
~~~ "Daadi, It's only a matter of a few days okay? Till then, have your medicines on time. Sleep properly for 7 - 8 hours and take care of your health. And, most importantly. No eating oily food okay?" Said Abhi strictly to Daadi after explaining Radha and Robin all the responsibilities in his absence.
"Beta, I'll take care of myself. But, now. You're the one who's going to Delhi. So basically I must be the one telling to take care of yourself." Daadi said sweetly patting my left cheek. "But I know you'll take care of yourself. So, I will not tell anything." She smiled.
Abhi smiled and hugged her tightly and turned to leave, "Abhi, take care of yourself." She said getting slightly emotional. To which Abhi turned, smiled, replied, " Of course Budhiya!"
~~~ "Di!! I'm sitting in the window seat. Move." I gently pushed Di aside and went and sat there. I turned to Di who was staring at me, I smiled innocently and asked her to come and sit beside me.
---- About 6 rows back,
"Excuse me." Abhi said and comfortably settled in his seat.
~~~ Do you realize, Me, Di and Jiju in the same flight! What a "weird coincidence", Right?
~~~ "Ouch!" Yelped Abhi as he held his forehead with his palm as the door banged his forehead hard.
"I'm so sorry." Di apologised. She was inside the washroom and wasn't aware of someone standing outside, leaning on the door of the restroom.
"It's.. It's okay." He said not looking up not being able to open his eyes due to the pain and Di wasn't able to see his face.
"Excuse me, I... " Di called the air hostess for assistance. "Actually I accidentally opened the door.." She and Di helped him to a chair and the air hostess got an ice pack and gave it to him. He kept it on his forehead slowly, replying "Thank you."
"Um.. You can go back to your seat ma'am. We'll take care of him."
"Yeah!" She nodded and one final time asked him, "Are you sure you're okay?" To which he nodded. "Again, I extremely sorry. I.." "It's fine." And the air hostess beckoned her to return back to her seat. So, she unwillingly turned to leave as he turned and slowly opened his eyes to see who the lady was but he only could only see her retreating figure. She was wearing a rose colored plain salwar suit, with sleeves up to her elbow and her long brown hair tied up to a bun. She was also wearing a simple beautiful bracelet on her right hand and a scar on her left wrist. He then slowly held his face in his palms again not being able to bear the headache he was having now.
Just before getting back to her seat she once turned to see the area where he was seated and she could only see his left side. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a brown jacket upon it. And was wearing infinite number of wristbands.
"Di? What took you so long?"
"Actually, I accidentally banged the door on someone's head."
"Di!!" Exclaimed Bulbul and chuckled slightly. "Seriously? Is he okay or did he faint on the spot?"
"He said he's fine but I am sure he just said that as a formality. It's must be hurting badly. Afterall the metal handle hit his forehead!"
~~~ "Reena, you are looking absolutely gorgeous!" complimented Pragya hugging her from behind as Reena sat in front of the mirror doing her touch up just a few minutes before her engagement ceremony.
"Oh my god Pragya! Bulbul! I thought you guys will miss my engagement. It's been so late already." She said wishing them. "There's very less time. Go fast and get ready. We'll talk after you guys freshen up."
~~~ "Yaar Abhi, you looking so fit!" Stated Vivaan.
"As always!"
"So, Finally you're here. In Delhi. That too for my marriage ceremonies. I still can't believe it."
"You better" replied Abhi and they laughed.
~~~ "Bulbul, listen pass me those jhumkas!" Asked Di while fidgeting with her pallu of her simple yet beautiful saree.
"Here Di," I said passing the jhumkas to her. "How am I looking? Fine na? These sandals aren't looking odd with my outfit right?" I asked pulling up the zipper of my anarkali. Purab had gifted it to me for our 1st anniversary. I liked it the minute I saw it's beautiful shade retreating from lightest shade of blue to darkest.
"Bulbul it matches quite well. You better stop worrying about your sandals and your outfit" she said and rolled her eyes. "And, we better go downstairs. It's getting late for the engagement."
"Okay fine!" I replied with a grumpy face.
~~~ "Reena, now I can't wait more. Where is Vivan?" Di asked walking along with Reena.
"Di.. Oh! There he is. Vivan!" Reena called out. But before Di could meet him I pulled Di aside.
"Ouch! What happened? Why did you.. Oh!"
Before Di could ask me anything I turned to show her that my zipper had slipped down a bit and she immediately pulled it up and locked it by pressing it down.
"That's why I tell you to dress up properly and not take tension about your sandals" Di said with a frown.
"Okay. Now can we go to meet Vivan?" I asked and in no time Di's frown changed to a smile.
"Di! Bulbul!" Reena called, " Vivan." She said pointing to towards him. We quickly went to her.
"Vivan, this is Bulbul. My very close friend, and this is Pragya Di, her sister. And undoubtedly my loving sister too." Introduced Reena to Vivaan, and they shook hands.
I grabbed Reena's and Vivan's hand and pulled them with me. And soon, Abhi came there, where Di stood looking here and there. And the minute they saw each other, their eyes locked.
'This girl! The one I had seen in the orphanage. The same girl who was in the car that day.'
'I've seen him before. But where?'
"You're looking stunning!" She froze at that statement. It took a few moments for her to comprehend what he'd just said, and then she turned to see if he actually had complimented her or someone standing near her. Abhi noticed her reactions followed after what he said.
After she realized that he actually complimented her, she was nearly to start jumping there and her lips colored the a light shade of pink curved to a happy smile. It was just that no one till now had even told her she looked pretty! Excluding me and Maa!
"Thanks!" She replied after a few moments with a smile.
He smiled back at her.
"I'm Abhi, Vivan's best friend."
"I'm Pragya."
And soon she turned to leave, just then Abhi called, "Pragya!" And she felt a chill run down her spine. She didn't know why but again, for the second time in a row she wished she could dance. She felt so happy on hearing her name from his mouth! She turned to him.
When she turned to him, he was literally tongue-tied. He had called her because she was leaving. But he didn't want her to leave. He wanted her to stay. He wanted the time to stay still. He wanted.. He wanted many things at that moment.
"Yes?"
"Hm.. Nothing."
And she left from there as he stood there looking at her leave.
~~~ "So, now Reena and Vivaan are going to exchange rings. Wohoo!" Someone announced on the mic and everyone started clapping.
They both exchanged rings and again crowd started clapping and relatives went on to congratulating them.
Soon followed was delicious dinner and the ceremony was over.
~~~ "Reena, I'll call you tonight okay?" Asked Vivan. "Bye Reena, Bye Pragya Di. Where is Bulbul?"
"She in her room." Di replied.
Vivan motioned Abhi to come with him who was standing behind Pragya for some reason.
"Bye Reena."
And before going he whispered "Bye Pragya" into Pragya ears and left. And Pragya smiled at him.
~~~ At night, after talking to Maa I went on blabbering about today's celebration and Di? She wasn't listening to anything. She was lost in thoughts. Again!
