The first time the king came across the title 'Dosti, Yaariyan, Manmarziyaan' he didn't even bother looking into what this show is as the title felt like a teen story with a college backdrop. But 3 days back he started of with a couple of episodes and after a marathon completed all teh episodes till date.
This show initially intrigued the king beacuse of Samaira. Very few lead roles have been itched in this way. She is fiesty, spunky, emotional, compeletely non-conventional as compared to most female leads. Her falling in love with a shady character and how they will both deal with the skeletons in their closet made for an interesting watch. In fact the king too rooted for this jodi not because they had a sizzling chemistry but because they could both fall in love and heal each others scars.
But then the king realized that (after reading a few posts in teh forum) that in fact Radhika is the one who is going to be paired with Arjun. which came as a huge disappointment as teh beauty and the beast concept has been done to death on Inidan TV. Also the most important point was how would Radhika be justified in loving the very person who betrayed her best friend by using her as a pawn in his game of revenge. There was only one way out and fortunately the CV's used that. Samaira backed out of teh relationship before committing and getting hurt thereby paving teh path for Radhika and Arjun.
Although it was disappointing that Sam and Arjun wouldn't be getting paired, it was also practical. Sam was never in love with Arjun to start with. During a time of vulnerability she met this mysterious guy and grew attracted to him but its was a on-off emotional connect she had with him. Moreover Arjun too never loved her and was busy in his path of revenge.
Now with Neil falling in love with Sam all doors are closed and now there can be only 2 pairs and thats what we have to deal with like it or not. But Neil suddenly decalring his love felt a bit odd as a couple of episodes back he was very much fine with Sam's choice and even said that to Radhika. For a change they shouldn't have paired Neil and Sam as its not necessary that best friends of opposite genders have to fall in love. They can also have a genuine frienship bond by beingfor each other just like Radhika and Sam. The Cv's seem to have taken the safe route.
But then when have indian shows and Indian cricket team ever been perfect. We can hate them but we cannot stop following them.
Coming to Neil and Radhika's characters, these two have been there in umpteen number of shows. The happy go lucky guy and the small town, clumsy, righteous girl. Both these characters evoked very little interest individually as compared to Sam and Arjun which were both more complex.
Until last week Arjun was portrayed as completely black character but now in this lonavla track slowly he is showing the humane side in him obviously due to Radhika who somehow reminds him of Nandu. Going by teh flashback it seems like Nandu had a one-side love on Samrat and committed suicide on being rejected. This seems very weak and Arjun's psychopathic tendencies deserved a much better back story to have the same emotional connect that the audience felt with Sam.
Now that Sam has backed off it would be interesting to watch how Arjun would go forward with his plans. But all said and done this show should not be dragged for years but finished within a year to maintain teh flavour. Once both the jodis fall in love and Arjun's revenge track closed there wouldn't be much to show and dragging this would only be painful for the viewers.
Last but not the least, special mention for Kashmira Irani. She is doing a splendid job as Sam. Its a pity that she wasn't on screen since the past 7 years but she is now making up for every bit of it. Well done girl, you rock.
The bottomline the chosen one draws is that don't expect the unexpected from the CV's as they relish in dishing out the oft-repeated stories instead of taking a more unconventional route.
