Even I saw it in Telugu.Kamalhasan and Radhika acted in Telugu.
Lovely music it had.

In that movie he never became normal but they did have a happy marriage.

So it looks like it is going to take a similar path.

No issues if they show the whole story of Kamili as long as they don't fill the entire episodes to tell the story.

Unless they take this Gopal track forward and show him/hisfamily getting justice Kamili's story doesn't have purpose.

In that movie, Anil kapoor did not even know about physical relations between husband-wife. On the suhag raat, she teaches him.

I think the same is going happen with kamli. She will have to take the lead after she starts liking him.

Yes, poor Gopal lost his life for loving a girl of higher caste.

That is how mentally retarded persons are being shown in movies and serials. I have seen a mentally retarded person in real life and even tried searching net for someone like what I see in movies and serial, but could not find. Can anybody tell me why movies and serial take so much liberty in portraying a disabled person? They are also human beings - their cognitive development may be slow - but their physical/harmonal development is normal.

Cognitive development is slow and it does stop at certain level and emotional and physical development may be normal.
But the way they express things obviously depend on cognitive skills and their understanding levels are low too.The depth of understanding depends on their IQ and what mental age their development stopped. So they express like a child because their understanding level is that of child's level.

That means low IQ level prevents a person to be normal physically also not even fit for marriage? In our society the disabled people are thought to be asexual and the films also show them as such. But I think - they have normal desire of a normal person - and the portrayal is wrong in films and serials. Tried searching net also but could not find a description that retardation means the person will behave like a child even after becoming an adult, playing with toys etc.

Growth retardation depends on what all parts of brain are affected.
If the part of the brain that deals with intellectual capabilities that deals with cognitive functions alone is affected and the rest is normal they may have physical development but still will behave like child because of the mental age - I think Pushkar is an example of that and most of the movies take this kind of retardation in their stories because it suits their purpose.

They may prefer playing with toys simply because their level of maturity stops there they can't progress to more complicated games cannot have passtimes which require more complex skills.

They may know that they are backward and not like others like Pushkar seems to know. They can be trained to look after themselves like personal care for example.

I agree. They are only mentally challenged. Their physical growth is normal.

Attraction to opposite sex happens at puberty. If the physical body is showing no signs of retardation, then attraction must happen. Even in people with Down's syndrome it happens.

Dont know why in movies and TV serials its shown as if they are children even physically.
