I was watching Bin roye promotions and in one of those Mahira was explaining that it is written by the same author Farhat Ishtiaq who wrote Humsafar. And the interviewer replied that I haven't watched it.
Even in the dramas I have noticed young generation from elite classes demeaning dramas as desi. That's the way it is shown in Pakistani dramas at least.

So the upper classes are no part of the society and ain't interested in culture?

PS-Looking to have a healthy discussion.

Yeah there's always this elitist attitude that we r too good to watch dramas.
Also it's more sad when the actors themselves when asked abt dramas say that no they don't watch dramas or don't hv the time to watch them. And dat's why I like SS so much as when she was asked to name any drama she was currently watching, and she ended up naming so many.😳

Also Rupali I feel as journalists they should not have this condescending attitude and should be a little aware of teh subject they r interviewing abt. Humsafar even if not watched, wld have been heard of as it was such a hit show, so in stead of showing an elitist attitude, I suppose I wld call it an unprepared and unprofessional attitude.

I am confused about Pak dramas...most of the situations shown as well as the language used with lots of English thrown in...I dont think non-elites in Pakistan can really related to them. Much like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is a classic and cult show but it was never high on the TRP charts. Something like Khichdi or Baa Bahoo Baby did better TRP wise. So I think its only elites in Pakistan watch them rather than general masses in small villages. The masses probably dont even have TV. So how can dramas be for non-elites?
In India though we have the current situation of daily soaps because it has reached masses. Most of the soaps no longer appeal to urban middle class folks who have shifted to English shows or internet.

The problem with Pakistani elites is that admitting to liking anything local is considered bad and so even if they're glued to the TV all night, dont count on them admitting it.

I don't understand why it is considered low to watch something what your country is producing.I,for one, do not identify with American culture so i have not watched many english shows not taking away the fact that they have better productions.

Complex ke maaray huye lol.

Dramas are watched by both elites and masses in Pak. It's like this. You might not find a household where EVERYONE watches them but it's hard to find a household where NO ONE watches them. Ofcourse nobody watches ALL the dramas.

They are actors of the industry that produces dramas..so if they can't respect the work their industry is producing who else would.

No wonder Pakistani dramas are said to be closer to reality.Even in their dramas they show younger generation only watching english shows.

Yes they do, but I guess again it's like they don't want to compliment competition I guess. Though I did like it when Mahira went to receive her award for ST and she said that all awards belong to Saba this year. It's nice when the own fraternity encourages each other and especially the females, coz there r jealousies amongst males too, but I hate it when it's only the females who get highlighted and dis I am talking abt Indian TV industry and BW as well.
