Eros Acquires WB and HP 3
The buzz in the trade is that Eros International, which is having a great run at the box office this year, has acquired two more films - Feroz Nadiadwala's Base Industries Group's Welcome Back and Hera Pheri 3. Both films are sequels to super hit franchises. Accordingly, the deal is worth Rs 130 crore.
Welcome Back, directed by Anees Bazmee and featuring a multi-star cast, will now probably release in September. Hera Pheri 3, directed by Neeraj Vora and featuring John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Gupta and Neha Sharma, will probably release early next year.
Ahmed To Direct Jr Shroff?
Choreographers-turned-director usually turn out to be massy directors in our Hindi film industry. And if they get to direct a dance film, it's the cherry on the cake. Ahmed Khan, who recently directed Tiger Shroff in a music album by T-Series, has narrated a script to the actor. The script is based on dance and we hear the actor has given it the nod. But a source close to the film reveals, "Tiger will be working under Sajid Nadiadwala Productions and Ahmed is in talks with Sajid Nadiadwala to co-produce the film. The film is based on dance but will go on the floors only next year as Tiger has his plate full right now."
ros Acquires
Aanand L Rai set up his production house Colour Yellow Pictures in 2008 because getting producers on board was difficult for him at that time. But over the years, after Tanu Weds Manu became a hit, offers were pouring in for him. At the time, Eros International came on board for his Raanjhanaa, which became a super hit. Now Tanu Weds Manu Returns is their most recent release. We now hear that Eros International has acquired Colour Yellow Pictures. Krishika Lulla confirms, "We have stakes in the company and from now, we will be co-producing films."
Will He Won't He?
There was talk that Bhushan Kumar and Ahmed Khan would team up once again after jointly making Ek Paheli Leela, to produce Abhishek Dogra's (Dolly Ki Doli fame) next which features Huma Qureshi and Ali Zafar in the lead. The yet untitled film is based on a road trip but we hear that Bhushan Kumar is not very happy with the script and have asked the director to draft a fresh version. Yes, creative differences seem to have cropped up between T-Series and Ahmed Khan's production house.
A source close to the director reveals, "Though the film has the potential to have some good songs as it's a film based on a road trip but the first draft didn't have sufficient sequences to use songs in the film. So the director is reworking the draft." Bhushan Kumar from T-Series was unavailable for comment.
Watch Out For Main Aur Charles
When your trailer manages to impress the audience, it's half the battle and won, and the trailer of Prawaal Raman's Main Aur Charles starring Randeep Hooda, Richa Chaddha and Adil Hussain is one of them.
Watch the first scene of the trailer and you're convinced that this film will be a thorough entertainer. Moreover, every frame has been shot and executed stylishly and brilliantly. And double-whammy is Hooda's various looks in the film, and the way he delivers his lines. And, of course, the way he interacts with the women in the film has been shown in the trailer is one of film's USPs.
We have watched the trailer and confidently predict that the people involved with this film have a winner on their hands.
Sridevi's Next Postponed
Sridevi, who made her comeback with English Vinglish in 2012, is taking her own sweet time to choose projects. She doesn't want to take up just about any script she is offered. Last year, she said yes to Kona Venkat, a South writer for a Tamil-Telugu film currently titled Puli, which also features South superstar Vijay. The film is being shot in Tamil and Telugu but will release in Hindi too.
But a source close to the film reveals, "It's a sci-fi film and 80 per cent of it has been shot. The actress was to finish shooting by the first half of this year but the rest of the schedule has been postponed to July. The film will now release early next year."
An Unusual Love Story
Hawaizaada might not have worked at the box office but Vibhu Puri, a veteran of this industry, is ready with his second story. The director has drafted a beautiful love story between two physically challenged people. This story offers a sensitive and unique perspective of romantic love. We also hear that the director has approached Dhanush and Vidya Balan to play the lead. Watch this space for more!
Sohum Shah To Direct Jr Bachchan
Bunty Walia has signed Sohum Shah to direct a film which will feature his close friend Abhishek Bachchan in the lead. We hear that Walia was looking for scripts to produce and was talking to many directors. But it was Shah's script that Walia liked most. We hear that it was during the first narration itself that Walia suggested close friend Abhishek Bachchan's name for the lead and a meeting was fixed.
Bachchan, who is currently shooting for Hera Pheri 3 in Mumbai, took time out for a narration and then agreed to be a part of the film. It's a solo hero project and has a love angle. In all probability, the film will start rolling early next year.
We tried getting in touch with Sohum Shah and Bunty Walia but both were silent on the developments regarding the film.
Guess Who?
Some films work, others don't. And when a film becomes a hit, everyone is eager to take credit; but when it doesn't work, it's always the director who takes the fall. This recently released film was drafted with huge expectations and when the producer stepped in, he promised the moon. But creative differences loomed and the film underwent many changes before it went on the floors. And that includes the star cast and dialogue. And get this - the director was not allowed to oversee the entire post-production process. Now that the film has bombed badly, the producer is blaming the director for poor content and poor direction!
Guess Who?
This director is known for his creative vision and many producers would endorse his work. Initially, he started with small-budget films with solo producers and those films did well. Soon he was signed by a big production house, and there was a lot of buzz around his off-beat film which bombed at the box office.
Next, he signed a two-film deal with another BIG production house, where the latter will release one of his films as producer. The big production house went all out with the film this director directed but the film failed to attract attention. Now hear that the director is blaming the marketing division as it was not promoted the way it should have been. The director has also decided to hire his own team to market his next film, which the production house has to release anyway.
