"Seeing others you were irritated, I get it, but I still don't understand what was the problem in taking the fees." Jodha nervously asked.

"Offo, I am not taking that money and you have to keep it...no more arguments" Jalaal concluded.

"Fine" she said to Jalaal and mumbled to herself 'like I have a choice here.'

"What??"

"Nothing"

"Ok forget all this, come here" Jalaal said extra sweetly.

Jodha shook her head and smiled. "You got mad at me for such a small thing and scared the heck out of me..." She complained softly

"Sorry... I didn't mean to scare you jaan...sorry!" He genuinely apologized.

"It's okay, don't worry..."

"Awww, you are so sweet...you forgave me so easily... I love you so much."

"I love you too" Jodha said and giggled.

Then they continued their nightly banter.

Chapter 31

Freeze...Freeze... Freeze... They wished they had a pause button to freeze these moments..

Gradually... Slowly... The clock was ticking and the time was slipping through their fingers, just like the sand slips through your fingers when you try to hold it.. They wanted to hold on to the time they had together in their grip tightly. Each passing day was reminding them of how the day of their separation was coming closer and closer. Their hearts were restless and both of them were thinking about it, but didn't want to talk to each other about it. Day by day their love was growing rapidly, both were feeling each other's pain, but for now they just wanted to live in the movement and enjoy whatever time they had with each other instead of worrying about the future as both knew they will have to face tough times in the future...

Their daily nightly talks continued... It had been two weeks since they expressed their feelings, they had talked every night after that. Jodha studied during the day and Jalaal went to school, tuitions and then home. All day they would do their routine stuff while having each other on their minds and waiting for the night to spend whatever precious little time they had left with each other.

These nights were very precious for them...this time, that they spent with each other, helped them get more closer and comfortable with each other...specially Jodha. She was getting more and more comfortable in expressing her feelings...at least on the phone if not in person. But as much as these nightly talks made them feel happy... content... close... blissful, their bodies were starting to feel the brunt. Staying awake most of the night, sleeping only in the wee hours of the morning for 2-3 hours and being busy during the day was starting to take its toll on them. They were both becoming lethargic due to lack of sleep, but were not ready to lose their precious time together.

But how long could they avoid the consequences??

One night after talking for a couple of hours, both started yawning.

"You are sleepy, why don't you sleep...we'll talk tomorrow!!" Jalaal said concernedly.

"Nooo I don't want to sleep..." Jodha whined.

Jalaal laughed hearing her whine. "Okay Jaan, don't sleep..." Jalaal said and smiled at her antics. "I was just saying that coz you sound tired..."

"Are you tired??? Do you want to sleep??" Suddenly Jodha asked realizing Jalaal was also yawning.

"No Jaan, I want to talk to you as well..." Jalaal sweetly replied.

Jodha's heart filled with love and happiness and she always felt out of this world whenever Jalaal addressed her as JAAN... "Will you always love me this much??" Jodha suddenly asked.

"Nope" Jalaal curtly replied.

Jodha's heart sank hearing his reply and "What???" slipped out of her mouth in shock. Suddenly she felt really insecure.

"Yeah I won't love you this much, because I'll love you more than this...much much more" Jalaal naughtily replied making a kissing sound "mmmuuuaaahhh".

Jodha's jaw dropped hearing him, "You scared me... You.. you are...uggghhh so bad... I'm not talking to you..." Jodha replied feeling very irritated.

"Okay sorry sorry I was just kidding" Jalaal laughed. "Don't get mad...please..."

"You won't forget me after going to US, would you??" Jodha asked insecurely in serious tone.

Jalaal's eyes widened hearing her question and he realized he spoke hastily without thinking in his naughtiness. He quickly replied "No Jaan I love you a lot, don't think like that... I know right now our future is very uncertain, we don't know when we'll meet once I go, how will we tell our families, in fact when we will tell them or how long will they take to agree or what all we'll have to do to make them agree and many such problems, but, one thing which is absolutely certain among all these uncertainties is that I. Love. You. A. Lot" Jalaal said emphasizing each word.. "I would never forget you or give up on us... no matter how many ever problems arise, we will deal with them and at the end we will be together no matter what... understood." Then in very soft tone he added "Never ever think like this again, okay??"

Jodha smiled and with happy tears in her eyes she whispered "I Love You too!"

Jalaal's heart swell hearing Jodha's sweet words making him really happy. "I wish I was there right now hugging you, caressing your silky hair and kissing your forehead and just close to you..." Jalaal said dreamily.

"You'll be here tomorrow..." Jodha cooed in low tone.

Jalaal smiled and said "hmmm you are right, I can't wait."

Jodha giggled.

After another 30 minutes of talking...

Jalaal was telling something to Jodha but suddenly everything went quiet, there was no reply from Jodha...

"Jaan..." Jalaal called but there was no reply!!

"Jaan..." He called again, still nothing.

'Why is she not replying?? What happened?? Did someone came?? But I don't hear anyone...' He thought as the fear of what could have happened crept up on him and he started panicking.

"Jaan.." He whispered once again... but just like before, no reply from her. 'Maybe I should calm down and quietly try to hear what's happening there' he thought. As he tried listening carefully, a soft smile appeared on his lips... He heard Jodha's soft breathing and realized she had fallen asleep, possibly with the phone away from her ear. 'She is so stubborn, I was telling her to sleep but she insisted on talking and now her body gave up. Anyway it's good, now at least she'll get some rest, otherwise if it was up to her she wouldn't sleep at all, for the rest of the 10 days!!' Suddenly he felt sad thinking only 10 days are left for him to go. He closed his to stop the sadness from engulfing him. 'Maybe I should just sleep for now.' He thought distracted. 'When she wakes up she'll call me. I just hope no one sees her sleeping with the phone lying next to her.' He paused for a moment, then realized 'Hmmm actually nobody should find her, she usually locks the door from inside, so it should be okay. Good, I'll sleep too.'

He closed his eyes to sleep but realizing something he chuckled 'She's going to freak out when she'll wake up and realize she slept while talking.' He slept hoping she will wake up before everyone else and call him or else he'll have to wait till evening tuition class to see her. Jalaal turned the ringer volume of his phone down and slept.

After about an and a half hour later Jodha woke up, she felt disoriented, she looked here and there and realized she is on her bed...she sleepily checked the time on her bedside clock, it was 4:15 am. 'There's still time before morning so I can sleep some more...' She thought and closed her eyes and cuddled her pillow to sleep again.

A few seconds later her eyes flew opened with horrified expression, she kept her hand on her mouth covering it in shock 'Oh my god, I slept while talking to him, oh gosh how could I just sleep like that. He must be going crazy with worry... Oh no... What have I done?? I should call him and apologize... Hope he turned the ringer volume down before sleeping...or else I'll end up waking everyone up.'

She quickly dialed his number feeling dejected and angry at herself.

Jalaal picked up the phone on second ring, but before he could say anything Jodha started apologizing "I'm so sorry, very sorry, I don't know how this happened?? Please don't be mad at me, please please please, I'm very very very sorry..." She kept rambling.

Jalaal had also fallen asleep so it took him some time to comprehend what Jodha was rambling on and on about. "Jaan... Jaan... Jaan calm down, calm down... Why are you saying sorry??" He spoke in loving tone to calm her.

"Please don't be mad at me..." she trailed off...

"Why would I get mad at you??? In fact I'm glad you slept and got some rest this way, otherwise you were certainly not listening to me when I asked you to sleep!!" Jalaal cribbed.

"You are not mad at me??" Jodha asked surprised.

"Of course not. What's there to be mad about??" he asked. "But I will get mad if you don't stop saying sorry!!"

Jodha smiled feeling relieved.

"Now I think you should sleep and I will see you in the evening."

"But I..."

"No buts... Sleep" Jalaal firmly spoke in between...

"Okay!! See you in the evening" Jodha petulantly replied.

In the evening, as usual Jalaal reached before everyone, a bit early so he could get some time to spend with Jodha alone.

Jalaal entered the room and asked Jodha in whispering tone "Is anyone home??"

Jodha smiled and shook her head in a No.

Jalaal grinned romantically, knowing no one is at home, without wasting a second he quickly kept the packets from his hands on the table, turned back and taking Jodha's hand swiftly pulled her to the corner of the room, where no one can see them ... he swiftly took jodha in his embrace tightly. Before Jodha could realize what was happening, she was already in his arms with her head on his chest. She could hear his heartbeat racing in excitement. For a second her mind and heart both got numbed... She nervously whispered in a dim tone "What are you doing??"

"What I said I wanted to do and you told me I can do it when I come!!" Jalaal mischieviously replied.

"When did I say that??" Jodha asked flabbergasted.

"Let me enjoy our first hug Jaan, later I will reply to all your questions... I have waited for this moment for ages... by the way you smell delicious... and your hairs are so soft." he replied while squeezing her tightly.

She smiled, enjoying the moment, she also slowly snuck her arms around his shoulders, Jalaal smiled feeling her hands on his shoulders holding him possessively. He closed his eyes as they both stood there for a few minutes feeling content and holding each other close.

Jalaal removed his one hand from her and caressed her head with it lovingly, feeling her soft silky hair under his palm. He desired to run his fingers through them, he pulled her hair tie out, effectively opening her ponytail and letting her hair loose. Jodha moved back from his chest a bit and looked up at him with a smile while he ran his fingers in her hair lovingly. He enjoyed caressing her long tresses for the first time, it was something he always wanted to do. He loved her straight and silky long hair. He felt heavenly. Then slowly he bent down and kissed her forehead lovingly. Jodha closed her eyes in shyness and content. Seeing her closed eyes he cupped her face after tucking few strands behind her ear he kissed on her eyes one by one. Then before he could move on to kissing her cheeks he noticed the irritated expression on her face. He suddenly stopped and asked with concern and worry "What happened Jaan??"

Jodha opened her eyes, looked at him and nodded her head saying "Nothing..."

Jalaal narrowed his eyes in confusion and asked again "What happened?? Tell me."

Jodha smirked teasingly and replied hesitatingly "Uhhh your... your moustache is piercing my eyes..."

Jalaal laughed out loud hearing her complaint. Jodha also giggled seeing him.

Jalaal kissed the top of her head saying "You are sooo cute..." He held her hand and moved towards the couch and they sat next to each other. He held her hands in his and asked "Don't you like my moustache???"

Jodha shrugged her shoulders and replied honestly "I don't know...but when you kissed me it hurt a bit..."

"Hmmm ok" Jalaal thoughtfully replied.

She slowly slid her hand from his grip and while forwarding her palm toward him, Jodha demanded "Give my hair tie back, everyone will be here soon."

Jalaal shook his head "No, leave it like this, I like your hair open."

Jodha slightly blushed with hint of smile and nodded her head in agreement.

"By the way what's in all the packets??" Jodha asked gazing at all the packets Jalaal kept on the table earlier.

"Ohhh these are some gifts from the teachers...my computer department gave me farewell party today" Jalaal explained.

"Oh okay" Jodha distractedly replied. 'We also need to decide when we will give him the farewell party and what are we going to gift him?? Today after class I'll ask the girls' Jodha thought to herself. Jodha nervously stood up hearing the footsteps and said "I hear footsteps, guess the girls are here... I'll go open the door and get your coffee!"

"Okay" Jalaal smiled and nodded.

"Mera haath to chhodo, main jaungi kaise..." (If you keep on holding my hand, how will I go??? ) Jodha whispered shyly.

Jalaal chuckled mysteriously then quickly he dragged her back to the couch. Jodha narrowed her eyes annoyedly , but before she could ask anything he quickly brought her hand up to his lips and lovingly kissed on it. Jodha immediately with little hesitancy pulled her hand back, while blushing heavily she smiled and looked down shyly.

Soon they heard the knock on the door, so Jodha left to open the door.

Once Jalaal left after tuition, Jodha discussed with the girls about the party. Fifteen minutes later they were done deciding when they will have the party and who would get what. The party will take place during the last class on coming Tuesday, Niti will get the card, Jassi will get the Samosas, Meenu will get the card and Jodha will get the gift and at last all of them decided that they will share all the expense.

"Why do I always get the difficult part of the deal??" Jodha mumbled to herself after the girls left. "They all will easily go and get what they need to bring, but I will have to think what to get, that gift has to be useful and also, he should be able to take it with him. Anyway, I have four days to think and get the gift."

At night, On phone

"You didn't like the coffee today??" Jodha worriedly asked.

"No it was good. Why are you asking that??" Jalaal confusingly replied.

"Then why'd you left so much in the cup today!!" Jodha asked.

"For you!!" simply answered Jalaal.

"Huh"

"I know you always drink from it so I left more for you" Jalaal explained.

"Ohhh okay" smiled Jodha.

"That reminds me, from next class when you get the coffee for me, I want you to first have a sip from it and then bring it for me"

"Why"

"Because I want you to..."

"But why?"

"Well, after you take a sip, it will taste sweeter and I can enjoy it more..." Jalaal said dreamily.

"Ohhh you mean it's always less sweet, you should have told me before... I'll put more sugar next time, okay?" teased Jodha while replying innocently.

"It will automatically become sweeter once it touches your beautiful lips, so no need to add more sugar Jaan" Jalaal mischieviously retorted.

"Uhh So what gifts you got from everyone today??" Jodha asked trying to change the subject.

Jalaal smiled knowingly and replied "just some Shirts, a Wall Clock, a Wallet and things like that."

"Wow, nice! Will you take all of them with you??" Jodha curiously asked.

"No, not everything... I can't possibly take them all, specially the wall clock... It's so big. Only a few useful and small items maybe."

"Hmmm" Jodha replied thinking 'I have to get something which is not too big so he can take it easily. But what??'

"Jaan? What happened?? Where are you lost??" Jalaal asked.

"Uhh nothing.."

"Okay listen, I want to give you something before I go..."

"What?? No, please no... I'm already worried about hiding the money you gave me and now something else too... please no." Jodha cut him off in between and worriedly said.

"But..."

"No please, no buts... R u trying to get me in trouble??" Jodha asked in frustration.

"Arre, pehle MERI poori baat to sun lo... Apna hi bolti ja rahi ho..." (Hey, listen to MY idea first... You just keep talking without listening...) Jalaal scolded.

"Ohhh Sorry"came Jodha's reply in low tone.

"Okay listen, First, I never want you in any kind of trouble, and specially when you are alone here and you get in trouble because of me. Second, I do want to give you a gift and No matter what, I will give it to you!" Jalaal firmly concluded.

"But what will you give?? That too something which won't get me in trouble.." Jodha asked worriedly but in a little annoyed tone.

"You again started worrying Jaan... Don't worry, I'm here for that... I have thought of something which you can openly keep and no one will ever know.." Jalaal proudly smirked at his own idea.

"What is that??" Jodha asked astonishingly.

"A ring!!" Jalaal excitedly revealed.

"Huh!! A ring?? You mean I'll wear a ring given by you and you think no one will notice... You are kidding, right??"Jodha doubtedly asked.

"Yes that's exactly what I'm saying... no one will notice" Jalaal coolly replied.

"But how is that possible??" Jodha asked again in confusion.

"Well, first tell me...Do you like wearing rings??"

"Yes, I do but..." She replied frustratingly.

"I thought so, I've seen you wearing two in each hand... Is it possible for you to give one to me for a few days?? Will anyone notice if you are not wearing them??" Jalaal questioned calmly.

"I guess yes, I can, because sometimes I take them off and keep them in my drawer and mumma never asks...so it should be okay if I give one to you but, what are you gonna do with it??" Jodha curiously asked.

"Well, my plan is that you give me your ring the next time we meet and I'll take it to a jeweler and ask him to make an exactly same ring..."

"Ohhh so that's how I will wear a ring given by you but no one will know...great!! Brilliant idea..." Jodha praised.

"See, I told you that you don't have to worry about anything" Jalaal replied proudly.

Jodha giggled hearing him boast about himself and teased saying "wah wah apne munh khud miya mitthu..." (Wow you are praising yourself huh...)

"Haha very funny..." Jalaal sarcastically replied and they both started laughing.

Time was running out and backward countdown had begun, nine days to go for his flight...
