Reviews don't always affect box office. That's not even the issue here. It sounds like Mumbai Mirror equates it's reviews of a hit or flop movie with it's gaining or losing readers. That's the only reason they would change a review after feedback or backlash. But in the process they lose a lot of credibility. Though I'm not sure how much credibility MM had to begin with. Isn't it basically known as a tabloid anyway.
To answer your main question Atominis, no I don't think a reviewer's ratings should change just based on public opinion. The critic was hired based on their background, experience and for their professional opinion. Trust them to do the job you hired them to do. It's not journalism or press if the public always agrees with you.
Makes you wonder if something as frivolous as movie ratings can affect freedom of press or journalistic integrity, what happens if the topic is a serious social or political issue?
