My explanation is due...

Known yet unknown,

People knew her as the Gray Lady, the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower, but very few knew her real identity (Helena Ravenclaw)

Wrong paths treaded,

She stole her mother's diadem in the thirst of glory

Deciet I saw,

Tom Riddle promised to destroy the diadem, but instead turned it into a horcrux

A helping hand

She helped Harry find the last horcrux, by confirming that it was Ravenclaw's diadem

Explanation.

Ans: Bezoar.

I'm an indispensable element of a certain subject

Taught to young witches and wizards at Hogwarts.

The bezoar is an important ingredient of many potions and hence and indispensable part of the subject.It is taught in the first year.

Once I spoiled chosen one's first class of the year,

Another time I earned him ten points.

In his first class,Severus Snape asks Harry where to find a bezoar which he finds unable to answer.In sixth year,he earns 10 points for answering a question on it.

I'm also linked with the life of one student of his year.

It saved Ron's life.

The people who owe their life to me could be many

For I'm a life saver in the magical world.

It is used as an antidote to many poisons in the magical world.
