A 25 year old was sleeping on his bed tired of buisiness meetings, flights and conferences. He woke up and glanced at the clock which read 7:30 PM, he found himself alone in his room. Somehow panic gripped his heart. Where is she??
He tried to re-call the previous situation...
It was afternoon when he came home from a long tiring flight and was in a bad need of sleep. His wife taani as usual started her chattering of two days happenings of his absence.
"Taani, Please dont disturb me with your nonsense. Let me sleep, Tumhe itna baat karna hai toh apne friends se baat karo na..."
Said rey in a frustrated tone, he pulled up the duvet and closed his eyes.
Little did he know the damage he did? Actually, his grandfather promised her parents that they both will get married and they were married 3 months back. Her parents passed away when she was 15, and as soon as she graduated; she was married to rey. So, they were not aware of any feelings and emotions for each other. Though taani made an effort to be friendly with him, he did not consider her as a part of his life as he was not ready for that marriage; he wanted to achieve heights, he wanted to be successful in his life.
He was in his bed re-collecting everything when he started to sweat, he heavily went to the fridge to gulp some water, to calm down his frenzy heart beat. He noticed a sticky on the fridge.
"Going out for sometime. Will be back by evening."
He was relieved but he himself wanted to go to her and pick her up. He sat in his car and drove to no destination. He started to think with whom can she be right now?
Swayam? No, he is in delhi with sharon.
Neha? No, i remember that she said me that neha is off to some dance camp in darjeeling.
Probably vicky must be there only.
Ummm orphanage? Tears were stinging his eyes; he thought itself gave a pang in his heart. How could he talk like that? She was not at any fault. He could have told her normally also.
Soon, a memory flashed in his mind. "Rey please hum beach pe chaltey hai na, aap hamesha postpone karte ho. Please na aaj mana mat kijiye na."
He gave a sudden break and rested his forehead on the steering wheel. He made up his mind and drove to the beach.
He parked his vehicle out of the beach, and went inside with a small hope in his heart. He finally saw her sitting alone, in her simple saree, hair open and her knees to her chest.
He observed her for a while, he saw her wiping her tears with the back of her palm and her bangles made a jingling sound. His heart flinched, how is he going to make up?
He went to her and sat beside her, she sprang on her place looking at him suddenly
"Rey, when did you come? Aap mujhe call karey toh aajaati thi na ghar? Aap kyu aaye?"
Her panic mode was on.
"Matlab, main yaha nahi aa saqta?"
He asked in his calm tone
"Umm... i dint mean that, i mean lets go home. Aapne kuch khaya bhi nahi hoga na?"
She said in her cute and innocent tone. She could make out his pale face and his tired eyes.
He locked his eyes with hers for a couple of minutes.
Oceans of feelings were in those eyes, trying to spill of as soon as possible.
There was a gentle breeze and her silky locks were dancing on her face, his fingers reached her face to tuck them behind her ear.
"Mem saab ek packet le lijiye mem saab, sirf paanch rupaye ka hai mem saab; ek packet le lijiye mem saab" a 10 year popcorn seller came to them.
She took out her wallet and gave him 100rs and took all those packets.
"Mem saab, sirf 40 rupaye hue mem saab"
"Bhook ki koi mol nahi hoti. Me tumhe bheek nahi de rahi hu. Koi baat nahi le lo."
His lower lip broke and tears built up in his eyes. He ran away thanking her.
"Taani tumne aisa kyu kiya? Aur hum itne packets ke saath kya karenge?" Asked a confused rey.
"Rey wo baccha shaam se aise hi ghoom raha tha aur ek packet bhi kisine nahi kharida. Wo apni pet bharne ke liye kaam karta hai. Kam se kam bhooka toh nahi soyega na."
She completed and was in his arms within a fraction of second. His eyes welled up with fresh tears. He regretted everything, he just wishes to wipe off his negligence if he could just change things for once. He wiped off his tears so that taani doesnt doubt him and her soft hands were on his shoulder blades. After a while, he broke the hug and holds her hands in his.
Taani was in deep thought that something was really wrong. But she was scared to ask, thinking he would be irritating him again.
"Rey, ghar chaley?" She asked.
Rey nodded and got up; she got up and took all the packets and while leaving the beach, she distributed the packets among the beggers on the footpath.
He saw that and brought his car, taani sat and he drove off to another direction.
Taani frowned... she thought for a while to ask him or not. She finally asked him with hesitation.
"Ummm... rey, hum kaha jaa rahe hai?"
"Dinner karne" he said
"Baahar?" Her tone was excited but tried to maintain cool.
"Haa..." he soon pulled his car in a lane.
Taani got out and saw a Punjabi hotel. It was not a very big one neither a small one. Her eyes beamed in happiness.
"He knows i like punjabi food?" She thought.
He took her hand in his and a warm feeling tingled through their bodies.
They sat at the table for two and soon rey called the waiter to order the food.
The waiter came...
"Do plate Pav Bhaji and do glass lassi, aur kuch lenge taani?
"Nahi rey. Bass hai"
The waiter left and there was silence, he understood that taani wanted to ask him something but hesitated.
"Yahi soch rahi ho na ki mujhe kaise pata that you like pav bhaji?" Rey asked
"Haa..." she trailed off.
"Tumne hi apne non stop fm me bataya that you and neha come here frequently to eat pav bhaji."
Taani raised her eye brows that she understood.
Their order came and taani started to mix and do something to the curry. Rey was watching in muse as he dont know how to eat this and he ordered for her sake.
Taani looked at him.
"Kya hua rey?" She asked in confusion
He scratched his head.
Taani felt so loved that he ordered this for her sake. She took the butter from his plate and plopped it on the gravy, the she took the coriander leaves and onions and put on the gravy. She mixed it well and he was looking at her and what she was doing.
Then she pinched off a piece of well roasted pav and put it in his mouth and soon put a spoon full of gravy in his mouth.
The taste was heavenly! Absolutely!
He started to hog it up and taani also ate, they drank their sweet and cool lassis and left the restaurant paying the bill.
They were in their car going home. Rey had a soft smile on his face and taani was also happy.
They went into their house and Rey went to freshen up, and taani also freshened and changed into a plain white T shirt and baby blue patialas. Rey as usual changed into his vest and tracks. He was sitting at the window and lost in his thoughts, taani was happy in her heart that they spent time together. But in Rey's heart, emotions were flooded and fuzzy trying to burst the heart out.
Taani saw him and wanted to talk to him, she was behind him but was unable to say a word, she extended her hand out to touch him but took her hand back. She stood there still looking at rey.
Meanwhile Rey's eyes were brimming up with hot tears, he felt something weird as his fm was off. He turned around and found taani standing behind him staring at him with her hazel eyes. How he wants to be in those eyes!
"Kya hua?" He asked
He voice was off, she couldnt talk as she was caught staring at him.
"Umm... kuch.. kuch nahi..." she tried to go but she couldnt as he stopped her holding at her wrist. His grip was so soft and she looked at him, he signalled her to sit beside him and she sat beside him trembling.
"Bolo na taani, kya hua? Kuch bolna tha?" He enquired.
"Umm... wo.. pata nahi... aap se puchna hai ki nahi... par... aap theek hai na?" She finished.
"Haa... aur tumhe aisa kyu lagraha?" He asked her
"Ummm... matlab, achanak se you... came to the beach, dinner pe gaye and... at the end of the day... aap bilkul khush nahi dikh rahe hai. Agar aapko pasand nahi aaya toh nahi jayenge bahar but aap aisa mat raho na..."
She completed in one breath, how is he supposed to handle this now, he was staring into her eyes and slowly his eyes spilled out tears. She gasped and wiped them off with her fingers standing on her knees; "Rey, mai bohot buri hu. I hurt you so much." She sat down in front of him and her head was hung low which was the limit for him.
He pulled her in his embrace on his manly chest and put his face into her curls breathing in her gentle fragrance, he was silently crying and they stayed like that for a while. Taani's hand reached on his chest and rey parted from the hug, kissed her cheek and again hugged her to his heart.
"I am sorry!! I hurt you so much, i never knew what i was doing. Maine tumhe bohot hurt kiya taani. I shouldnt have said that. I knew you dint have any friends. I am really sorry..." he trailed off, more tears squeezed out from his eyes. She parted from the hug, cupped his face and kissed his forehead.
"You know? I waited for this moment from ages. Hum iss moment ko aise roke ruin nahi karna chahiye." She said wiping his tears and her tears getting into an eyelock.
"I love you" he breathed out, she widened her eyes and gaped at him. He pulled her towards him and flicked her hair behind her ear and kissed her under her eyes, near her lips and went onto her slender throat. She ran away from his grip gasping in shock. He ran behind her holding her yet again.
After their hot session of making love, they were wrapped in their blanket and rey was grazing at her neck and shoulder placing nosy kisses into the hollows of her neck. He made her red all over and she just hid her face in his chest wiping off her happy tears hugging him more tight around his torso.
