Sometimes MaNan are something to marvel about in terms of how far they've come...love stories toh there are many on TV, more angsty, more epic, more many things...but the amount of fulfillment that the writers have managed to put into MaNan's evolution touches the heart time and again...most love-hate stories post the confession phase degenerate into sappy everyday activities...with the hero becoming a mere shell of his former self as he descends into uber Majnu mode...or there are the umpteen misunderstandings that negate any 'growth' among the lead pair.
Now not saying that any of this is not eventually in MaNan's future too😆...but as of now, I commend the writers for maintaining a momentum in terms of their scenes...and not just establishing, but capitalizing on the depth in their relationship especially these past two weeks of the Pandit kidnapping track.
In no particular order, my fav. bits of the week:
1) Manik's helplessness in the face of watching Nandini withdraw from him...the way you see his heart break a little each time she flinches away from him...and yet the fact that he has the courage to fight for both of them this time...has to touch your heart...from the Manik who needed a Nandini to always pull him back from the brink, we have a Manik now pulling Nandini back from the brink...the determination in his voice when he tells her on the stairs that whether she likes herself or hates herself, he's not going to budge...he's always going to be around her so she can reach out to him whenever she needs to...the emotion in both their eyes in this bit...and then the way Manik steps back to allow her to walk away...beautiful stuff from PaNi...and the way he tells her he loves her...and she can take as much time as she needs...he'll WAIT...this was one of the most beautifully depicted scenes possible...without any melodrama, the earnestness that is the hallmark of MaNan scenes making you believe in them as always...
2) And somehow they find the balance b/w light and dark...and Manik Monster Malhotra of all people is going about showing sooo much patience and understanding as he gives her space...as much space as his heart will allow him to give...lol cuz he cannot stay further apart from her than this much...the fact that he's allowing for this much distance b/w them also is huge on Manik's part...the guy who's been obsessed with her and invading her personal space since day one...when he manages this feat, then that's a recipe for awww😆...the bit when he's following her...lol I love the silent communication...and how he's indulging her in a bemused fashion as he makes exaggerated gestures to convey that he's right there behind her...and then his smile when she turns to leave...he was even bobbing his head in the end to that "Agar main kahoon" tune it almost seemed...lol
The face he makes when he says "filter coffee nahin hai"😆...and then talking about his preference for Earl Grey tea😆...sab kuch try kar liya bechaare ne to get her to smile but didn't work...I did wonder if Nandu will procure Earl Grey in the future to make him smile😆
3)So desperately he wants to heal her and yet she is not in a state to allow him to touch her as he wants to...all of this yearning is so beautifully communicated through their eyes...
But what really touches your heart are those moments when both of them try to be BRAVE for EACH OTHER...like in this finger locking bit...Nandu makes this effort cuz she sees him looking sad about his attempts to make her smile not working...so she takes a deep breath, gathers some courage from somewhere inside her, struggles but still reaches out to him tentatively...and what a beautiful moment it makes for...anyways you can't go wrong when you focus on their hands😆...one more added to the list of their many lovely hand scenes...I loved the way Manik looked at her as she reached out to him like that...and then a smile slowly spreading on his face...he was trying to make her smile but she reached out to him to console him somehow even thought she isn't able to battle her demons properly...this moment of communication as if she's saying, "I'm trying, Manik"...and his smile has so much love and hope in it as he looks back at her.
4) Nandu being paralyzed by her trauma again was fantastically portrayed by Niti...the way the memories assault her...you feel like you're right there with her...sickened by the progressively increasing inappropriate behavior she was subjected to...
But ofcourse the slap scene was something else😆...In the midst of so much tension, terror in Nandini's eyes, we get MaNan circling back to their beginning...punch/slap😆...I love how in a sense a punch/slap always LEVELS them...especially this time toh there was that sense of "equality" if you will to it cuz they both slapped each other😆😆...Manik in frustration to get her to snap out of her fit of terror and Nandini in somehow finding her fighting spirit again...finding that Nandu who doesn't take crap lying down from anyone...love showe notwithstanding😆...this is kinda where the writers reminded me of why I invested in this story for this long😆...you just don't get such a range of reactions b/w a pair on TV...literally one epi before they were holding hands/fingers...and bam next epi they are slapping each other...what's not to love😆
All the flippancy aside, I LOVED this bit for the way Manik's reaction moved from the shock at getting slapped to a kind of satisfaction at having his spunky Nandini back in that moment...and then the pride and encouragement in his tone as he said, "That's my girl"...I was sold in that moment
And Nandini's reactions...ranging from a delayed sort of shock at having slapped him to responding to his "That's my girl...she never gives up" statement...you can see how this starts to calm her down...
5) Majnu Manik😆...I still am a little in disbelief watching how unabashed this guy has gotten in expressing his love for her...chacha-chachi, aadha college, koi bhi saamne khadaa ho😆...Manik has eyes only for his girl and now he's going about declaring his feelings too😆...despite the fact that Parth looked super sleepy in this scene😆...Manik's heartfelt words of pride and confidence as he spoke about what Nandu means to him...the way he said, "She's special"...and Nandini's reactions to all of this...bit by bit he got through to her...and it showed in that last scene...he managed to extract a ghost of a smile from her...for who could resist smiling in the face of such shining love in his eyes...Manik was like the personification of pyar mein beh jaana in that scene...ki duniya, jahaan, nothing else matters but her...and her smile...which he is so desperately craving.
6) Sorry for the long rambling already but I must mention the precap too...all day long this boy was brave for his girl...even as she literally crumbled before his eyes...the girl who's always been his rock...crumbled before his eyes all day...but he held on, didn't let go...gathered all the courage and hope that she's inculcated in him and kept trying all day to heal her somehow...and after yet another round of positive advice where it sounds like he's repeating her own words of advice back to her...lol...after a whole day of bravery, finally he has his moment of vulnerability and needs his dose of Nandini to keep going...what a lovely thought..."I need a hug...I just need it"...and when has Nandini ever denied him no matter what it costs her...the tender fragility of this moment is achingly beautiful...the tentative way in which she puts her head on his chest and the way he closes his eyes as if finally home for a bit.
Ok ho gaya😆...Had to blab.
