Hi All,

Here we are with our next Theme of the Week, which i almost forgot about amidst all the Wild card discussions.

And this week's theme is -

The Wild Wild West (deliberately chose the word wild here 😉); songs based on Western music, Western tunes and genre like disco, jazz, reggae, swing etc etc

Theme idea credit - Vanajaakshi

So here we go folks ... everything else remains the same ...

List down your favorite western music based songs from films or non film albums

Which contestant (Toshi is included and so are Arshpreet, Prantik and Prantika 😊) would you like to see singing them?

Share related articles and related artistes and all under the sun related to western music and its influence on Bollywood.

As always, my request is for more contributions to this thread.

Keep it going folks!

Rgds

Kirti

P.S. Continue sending me future themes ideas via PM.

Oh, while I think disco and hip-hop should be excluded because they are too easy and we would end up hearing some of the same songs again, here goes:

Disco station, disco: Abhaas, for his sense of humour.
Ajeeb dastaan hai yeh: Mirande
Tum jo hue mere humsafar: Priyani
Aaiaiaiy sukoo sukoo: Harshit? Prantik!

Kirti, apologies for the extra 'e' I keep adding to your name.

And in keeping with the 'Wild, wild west' theme: anyone think of country western type songs used here? I think 'Agar mein kahoon' would qualify on the basis of the guitar work in it.

If the theme is wild wild west.. a lot of Pancham songs will surely find place... Afterall no other MD has used those western instruments as well as he has done... 'Chhoti si kahani se' from Ijaazat immediately comes to my mind

I will come back with the songs later...

Well, what are the categories of songs we would look for?

Waltzes (Dil ki girah khol do)
Disco (Disco station disco)
Jazz
Swing (Kaisi paheli zindagani, Aage bhi jane na tu)
Rock (Aaja aaja main hoon pyar tera)
Pop (Papa kehte hain)
Country
Calypso (Some recent Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy songs have had calypso beats)

Just a start, do fill and let us all learn. That is the best thing about this Thread.

Jeene ke ishaare from Phil Milenge.
-I'd go with Irfan or Abhaas for this melodious song.

Hai ishq yeh kya khata from Bas ek Pal. (Salsa category?)
-Sumitra, Mirande, Abhilasha could sing it. From eliminated contestants, Arshpreet.

Another salsa style song would be Salaame from Dhoom.

I'm not familiar with Calypso so had to look it up.
Detailed article on calypso music (Afro-Caribbean music).
Some instruments listed are trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass and electric guitar.

Gustakh dil tere liye... (Dil maange more) - What genre of western would it qualify in?
I am sorry, I am too much a layman to identify the correct western genre...

How about Do lawzon ki hai dil ki kahaani - I think that will go very very well for Abhilasha

i think this is definitely a learning thread ... i too am not too good at identifying individual genres but let me try!
hey vanaja, the extra 'e' is fine 😃 am used to many variations of the way my name is spelt 😆

gustakh dil i think wud fall into the jazz/jive category
how abt 'banda yeh bindaas hain' from Aks, wud that be salsa? irfan, abhaas or toshi singing it will be great
gela gela wud be hip hop/reggae i guess
what abt the old 'aao twist karen' (pop) - ishmeet or irfan
'tum jo mil gaye ho' (waltz?) love the guitar in this song - abhaas
mera naam chin chin choo (jazz?) - priyani / sumitra / mirande
eena meena deeka (jazz?) - prantik
