PLAYING MATURE CHARACTERS BRINGS DEPTH
Hiten Tejwani, who was in Lucknow recently , is 15-years-old in the TV industry . And while actors older than him are playing heroes in films, he is getting to play character roles on TV now. Does that bother him? "I'm no newcomer that I have to justify my character to my audience. And somewhere down the line, the whole point is that ek mature character karne mein ek alag hi mazaa hai. It has depth. There are a lot many shades to the character, which for me as an actor is a challenge to portray. I have played a grandfather also, that too in my initial shows," says the actor, who debuted with 'Ghar Ek Mandir', but shot to fame with his portrayal of Karan Virani in 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. He adds, "It's not as if people don't know my real age or anything. It's like you're watching a college drama where someone's playing a father, a mother or even a grand father, but every one knows they are actually college students. Also, the audience has become more acceptable. Jab tak acting achhi hai, tab tak koi bhi actor chalega."
NO PLANS TO TURN PRODUCER
Hiten, who owns a restaurant in Mumbai, says he isn't ready to expand his business yet, or venture into film or TV production. "Not as of now. What I've seen of it, I've realised its not a piece of cake. Hum artistes itna pareshan karte hain producers ko," he says, adding, "But you never know what happens in the future. It may be easier for Gauri (TV actress and his wife) and me to venture in that as we are known in the industry. But I feel we still have a lot to learn before we get into production. Also, as of now both us are busy with our acting projects."
DOTING DAD
Father to 5-year-old twins, we wonder if he's indulgent and patient as a father in real life as his on-screen avtar and Hiten laughs. "What you are in real life, woh thoda bahot dikhta hai screen pe. Jaisa aap karte ho scene mein, woh aap mein thoda bahot hota hai. Ab main achha aadmi hoon toh screen pe bhi achha hi dikhta hoon. I am a good father in real life, that's why I'm able to play a good father on screen so convincingly . But yes, I am quite an indulgent father," says Hiten.
SHOOTING IN BANARAS WAS BRILLIANT
Hiten remembers shooting for the serial Ganga in Banaras very fondly. The actor was there in Decemeber and says he would love to visit Banaras again at the first chance that he's given. "Banaras was brilliant. This was the first time I was there. But it was a surreal experience. I noticed that people go off to sleep quite early there, by 10-10.30 sab jagah sannata ho jaata hai, but subah wahaan bahot jaldi hoti hai.Subah chaar baje aap baahar niklo toh lagega ki yahan market laga hua hai, sab jagah itni raunak rehti hai. Dukanein khul gayi hain, kahin chai chalu hai, kahin log rabri kha rahe hain, samose, kachoriyan kha rahe hain, sab mast hain as if it's noon."
