Its so easy for a man to divorce or talaq his wife be it 16th century or 21st century to marry other women or because he is angry on wife and does not want her
But has Akbar thought what impact it has on his wife and kids? Does any man think what happens to wife and kid?
Apart from economical impact- forget that for Jodha as she is rich, she has spice business to run her life, she has salim her son to take care of her expenses through his allowances etc
But apart from economical impact there are tremendous social impacts
Its not easy for a woman who is divorced to live in society in 21st century so how will it be for a woman in 16th century
Currently all people are waxing eloquent on jodha saying she is virtious etc
In reality after a while same people will start speaking rubbish abut her saying may be she did some grave fault else which husband leave her? Then will cast aspersions on her character, her children legitimacy etc She cannot take her head up and walk without relatives, family, friends, strangers speaking in hushed voices sometimes openly. They are unwelcome in religious ceremonies treated like some abshakun- bad omen by family and friends and avoided
Then comes plight of the kids whose mothers are divorced by their fathers. Society start speaking all sort of nonsense on their mother, their family, indeed they start speaking if this child is legitimate else why husband left wife etc. They are unwelcome in any social gatherings, treated as second class citizens etc No one ready to give them spouse, no one ready to treat them with respect and fairly
The plight I have mentioned above is in 21st century we can only imagine condition in 16th century
In such situation akbaar knows what it is to be a divorced woman and kids of divorced parents yet he said talaq? What sort of justice or story is this?
If Akbar truly divorced Jodha (in reality) her parents and brothers would not accept her back at amer, she anyway makes money from spice business for Mughal empire her work and money would go, she would be struggling to make ends meet, salim's engagement with man bai would have been broken, salim no longer respected by society as his mom is divorced by dad, soldiers under him would not listen to orders, ministers shall not treat him with respect, forget them Akbar's others wives shall not respect salim or his mom because Akbar divorced his mom(all those who flaunt their love to him because he is next emperor)
But this is serial - real social and economic impact never shown only melodarama
This reminds me of salman khan- how all so called friends, fans etc are fawning away sympathy to him because he is super star. Will they do same if he was some b grade star and they have no benefits of being associated with him? Nooo they give damn if he is alive
Same will be case of jodha and salim after Akbar divorce jodha
