Ain't we expecting too much from our sportspersons (except Cricketers)? We want them to be best in the world, but we forget that we have no sporting culture, nor do we have the infrastructure (Physical, Financial..nothing) necessary to discover and groom new talent. Our middle/upper middle class consider most sports (except where there is money) to be downmarket, look at any sports (football, hockey, Boxing, Weightlifting, Track and Field etc)...almost all of sportspersons are from poor families. We can't expect them to be the best in the world when they have families to take care of, and not to mention the lack of everything..training, diet, stadiums, gyms, coachs...etc. Our federations have become personal properties of few people, they are a bunch of currupt and inefficient bodies.

Nice Topic! I always wonder that we are one of the most populated countries in world and look in any olympics etc, we have literally get a lense to find India one silver, 3 bronze on the medals chart. Its definately to do with infrastructure / funding... wonder why cann't we change the focus from cricket. Like I heard in some panchayats after world cup, cricket was banned and kids were asked to play kabbadi... no kiddin here.

Nice topic..Deepak👏👏👏!!
One of my cousins used to play...in football team..he used to be the caption of the football team for his district..he got selected for the state team..he played even for state football team..when there were selections for National level team....in the practice he got hurt and his legs got fractured...both of his legs..now he has steel rods in both of his legs.....no sports authority has helped him....as he used concentrate more on sports..he did his graduation..with ordinary marks...in this competitive world...simple graduation in literature does'nt fetch any jobs...somehow he struggled and got settled in a nice job now......the point I want to convey is.....in India..sports are not given proper encouragement.by family...and ....reason there is no ample support from govt and...all cannot be the Sachin tendulkars....Gopichands..Mahesh Bhupatis.....there are somany sports people who are in a category..where they cannot shine in sports because of insufficient trainings, oppurtunites and who cannot compete with the educated professionals..in the Job market😊..Government has reservation for sports persons..for this purpose..but sorry to say...that it is the most misused category.....
Without giving proper training...its wrong on our part to scold them for not bringing medals at competitions...😊
