Alia Bhatt has played diverse characters in her four-film-old career so far. In comparison, her role in Udta Punjab will be a sea change for her because it is her toughest, most intense character yet.

She will be seen playing a Bihari migrant daily wage labourer who arrives in Punjab for better job prospects. Alia has never acted in this space before. In all her previous films she has played an urban girl.

This is the first time that her character comes from a rural background. The film tackles the serious and very real issue of drug abuse in Punjab.

No one has confirmed this. Apparently the rumour started because Alia posted a pic of a hockey stick on her Instagram page. Alia, Shahid and Kareena have stated this film is the most difficult that they have ever done, but no one has confirmed what exactly their roles are. So far no pics of Alia have been leaked either.
