Heyy everyone!😃

As we know RGV's Aag released today so far it has not been able to click at the box-office and we aren't seeing such good replies or feedback.

Of course this movie is nothing compared to the good-old Sholay.

But....

Do you think that RGV's Aag is worth a try?

Was there a remake really needed?

Did Ramu ruin Sholay by his thought of remaking?

Have the actors done justice to their roles:

- Amitabh as Gabbar?

- Ajay Devgan as Veeru?

- Nisha Kothari as Basanti?

- Sushmita Sen as Radha?

- Urmilla doing "Mehbooba Mehbooba?"

- Mohnlal as Thakur?

Of course if you go watch this film without the thought of Sholay coming to your mind and suppose it like a whole new film.. you may seem more satisfied, but I'd like to know your views on this.😊

Nice topic! 👏 Haven't seen it so I can't judge the acting, but I will answer these questions.

Do you think that RGV's Aag is worth a try?

Yes, I think remaking Sholay could have been successful if done in the right manner. If Don can be remade, why not Sholay? And for those who say that Sholay is a classic, I would have to disagree. It's an entertaining film but in the end still has its share of problems (and copyright issues). And anyway, classics are remake all the time, i.e. Devdas, Parineeta.

Was there a remake really needed?

No, not really. People still enjoy watching the old one. But this can be said about many films. I don't think Don or Umrao Jaan needed remakes either.

Did Ramu ruin Sholay by his thought of remaking?

Ramu did ruin Sholay, not by this thought of remaking it, but just by the changes he made. It really seems like a ridiculous B-grade film. Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen will probably be the only saving grace, but I doubt they can do much either. And what's up with changing all the names? The audience loved Veeru, Jai, Basanti, Gabbar, etc. He only gave them another reason to be annoyed.

Oh, on another note, I think RGV made a grave error in judgment by casting Ajay as Veeru. The role of Jai is tailormade for him.

^ Ramu was forced to redub the film with changed names because he lost the copyright case against Sascha Sippy. Ironically Sippy himself has struck a deal with Pritish Nandy to make an "official" remake, an animated version as well as a prequel and sequel. 😆

https://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article&am p;am p;am p;am p;sectid=30&contentid=2007082920070829042713640d11b10e

The only names that Ramu had originally changed at the script level were Ghungroo (Basanti), Laila (Dhanno) and Durga (Radha) I think.

I don't see why people are so anti-remake anyway. A film is just a film at the end of the day. Why can't be it remade? It's not like it's some religious Holy Book! 😆 People get too obsessed over such trivial issues. It's not like the remake is going to erase the original from history. If anything, a remake's failure only highlights the power of the original.

I think what people are ignoring is that "Aag" is not really a remake in the strictest sense: it is a complete reimagining of the story. The atmosphere and even characters are bound to be drastically changed if you're going to take the script of a western-style story and recast in the modern day underworld.

From what I've heard, the actual weakness in the film is Ramu's attempts to keep some elements of the original that no longer work in the new atmosphere. Such as the Veeru-Basanti love track and suicide stuff. You can't force a light-hearted romantic subplot right into the middle of a brutal, gritty, dark gangster movie! 😆

Anyway, I can't say anything more without watching the movie first, except that Ramu has a lot of guts in trying to drastically reimagine a film that desi people are almost religiously obsessed about. 😉

As per the reports, during the premier.. AB and some other actors walk out of the theatre in the interval and most of the audiences as well.. and never came back to watch the second half... so if the actors acting in the movie cannot stand to see the full movie.. then how do you expect the audience to sit for full 2 hrs and 40 mins.. 😛 😆
