Utsav, Maya Memsaab, Kamasutra: Why we shouldn't be shocked over Radhika Apte's nude scene!
Dare bare acts are not new to Bollywood! Read to find out why...
It's quite a thing to wonder that in this era, where the uncensored episodes of Game of Thrones, Girls and Spartacus are so freely available to download, we are still making such a hue and cry over one actress' decision to show a little more than skin in an international anthology film.
Radhika Apte is an actress who we were definitely watching out for, after those superlative performances in Badlapur, Hunterr, and in the Malayalam film, Haram. Recently, a clip of hers exposing her private part had been trending over Whatsapp, Facebook and Twitter. It was actually shot as part of a short film made by Anurag Kashyap for an international venture.
Naturally, there were diverse reactions over the clip, with a few people (who knew the real story) came out in support of the actress, while many were ridiculing and trolling the talented actress. Anurag himself had ranted in media that the scene should never have been viewed out of context.
Above all, the actress herself had claimed in one of her previous interviews, that she had done the scene whole-heartedly and is proud of it!
Before we shout all This is not Indian culture" BS and degrade the brave actress, let's shut up for a moment and realise that this is not the first time an Indian actress had done such dare-bare scenes in films! Take a look at few such instances where we have gone more than just rolling on the bed.
Maya Memsaab

This Ketan Mehta directed drama, starring his wife Deepa Sahi, Farooque Shaikh, Raj Babbar and a very young Shahrukh Khan, had created quite a furore over Deepa's topless scenes. This Indian version of Madam Bovary had to fight out many court cases, before a milder version reached the theatres.
The Cloud Door

A very few people must have heard this short film The Cloud Door, directed by the revered film-maker, the late Mani Kaul. A fantasy based on erotic themes, it had the original Aashiqui actress, Anu Agarwal, going full frontal.
Ek Choti Si Love Story

Manisha Koirala had raised quite a hue and cry when the movie had released. She alleged that the director, her once-upon-time friend, Shashilal Nair, had shot the nude scenes with a body double, without her approval. She had even asked Shiv Sena to intervene on her behalf! However, compared to the other movies in this list, the scenes were quite tame, yet still bold compared, to say...a B.A. Pass!
Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love

No..not that unreleased Sheryln Chopra joke...Kama Sutra is a film almost every Indian watched, yet a few will dare to say so. It had everything that will make an average viewer drop his jaw in shock - full frontal nudity, explicit lovemaking scenes, and even lesbian stuff. With a name likeKama Sutra, you expected anything less?
Bandit Queen

Seema Biswas had done the Full Monty in this Shekhar Kapur directed, Bandit Queen, based on dreaded dacoit-turned-reformed politician, Phoolan Devi's life. But I assure you that the scene is as far from erotic as possible. In fact, the entire scene makes you wince and despise certain members of your own gender and the levels of depravity they can get down to insult a woman!
Siddhartha

Simi Garewal had previously bared her derriere in Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker. However, it was her topless scenes in Siddhartha, based on Gautham Buddha's early life, that created quite a flutter. Coincidentally, the movie also stars Raj Kapoor's younger brother, Shashi Kapoor.
