Ayan Mukerji's long-delayed superhero film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, to roll in February 2016.

Mirror was the first to report that Ranbir Kapoor will play a superhero in Ayan Mukerji's third film after Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (July 3, 2013).

After several hiccups, the film will finally go on floors in February. A source close to the development told Mirror that after a recent meeting between the frequent collaborators, who also happen to be close friends, RK told Ayan that he can accommodate the film in early 2016.

"Once Bombay Velvet is out of the way, Ranbir will finish Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos and Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha in two schedules as both are expected to hit the theatres this year. When he recently met with his team to chart out his plan for 2016, Ayan's film was the first to get a slot as RK is really excited about playing a caped crusader," said a source close to the development.

The source further revealed that RK is personally involved in all aspects of the project, including the script, and is helping the director give shape to his superhero which will also have strong mythological elements to it.

"It's been planned as a trilogy and both Ayan and RK are involved in developing the character's back story," added the source.

The yet-untitled film was earlier to go on floors in June but Ayan let go of Ranbir's dates for his mentor's directorial, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, co-starring Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Last December, Ayan admitted that he will spend the time 'fine-tuning' the script. With his film set to roll in February, he finally has a reason to smile.

I am not looking forward to this at all. BW just doesn't know how to make a superhero movie and this one will suck as well.

Ayaan is a great storyteller..Just don go commercial & cliched like YJHD and we are good..He has so much potential..Just unfair to watch him become KJo part 2 ( though i must admit he does fluff a lot better than Karan 😆)

You know anything more about this? This is what RK said about the film in February.

Talk about Ayan Mukerji's film?

Ayan is trying to write something that is beyond his years. It's a mythological contemporary world. It's on the premise that people who don't believe in magic, don't see it at all. He wants to spend the next ten years of his life on this trilogy that he wants to make. So he has to write the entire story before we start the film. It's about a boy who has a certain magical superpower. And how he discovers that and how he battles with his own personality and emotions.

What do you mean by storyteller? Every director tells a story.

I don know..I just like the way he tells the story..Every director tells a story but not all of them succeed in conveying their vision or manage to create a connect with the viewer..There are these subtle moments in his story telling which make it very poignant & realistic in a way...Even though YJHD was a mediocre film, i could still list out quite a few scenes where Ayaan shines as a storyteller..Not sure if am making sense here 😆

Ayan is so overrated. WUS was good but YJHD was terrible. So many better directors than him going around.
