Part 22

"What are YOU doing here?" asks DD.

"Roshni! Kya hua, why are you screaming?" asks Nani.

"I will explain everything, first let me - " said Siddharth and gets hold of Roshni making her come down. She was still screaming loudly and hugged him in fear.

"No.. NO..NO SIDDHARTH..COCKROAAACH!!" she yelled pointing towards her bed.

Everyone looks at the bed. The cockroach was long gone. Siddharth threatens her faintly in her ears,

"Roshni..if you don't stop screaming, I will kiss you in front of everyone so that you stop!!"

This made her finally shut up. She holds on to him to control her breathing.

"Abh tum bataoge ki kya chal raha hai yaha, ya aise hi chipke rehene ka iraada hai puri raat?" said DD aloud and with a straight face.

They loosen their hug immediately and take a step backwards. Siddharth scratches his hair and grins awkwardly.

"SARUMOM... I..I.. mean Sasumom.. there was a cockroach on the bed and usko dekh key yeh Edvard bhai ke The Scream ki tarah chillana shuru kar di!" he said jokingly.

DD looks at him furiously as he called her Sarumom and did not even answer her question properly. Nani intervenes and says,

"Cockroach toh kab ka bhaag gaya uski aawaz sunkar!" indicating towards Roshni which made Siddharth laugh out loud and he comes near Nani to hug her. Roshni glares at them.

"Nani Ma, have you noticed that dono maa-beti ki shakal kitni milti hai when they glower at me like that!" he said.

Nani nods a yes and smiles. Roshni walks towards her mother and stands beside her with her hands crossed. DD still looked at Siddharth for an answer.

"Woh main.. Roshni was not letting me complete my sentences on the phone and -" he started in a normal voice.

"I was not letting you? You were not telling me anything directly! It was your fault, don't blame it on me!" she retaliated.

"Dekha Sasumom! Aapki beti ek chiz bolne nahi deti mereko ache se! Ek baat bataiye kya khaakar aapne isko paida kiya tha!" he teases them.

"Mom!! Look at him, fault iska tha and he is playing with his words again! Seedha bolne mein kitna problem hota hai na tumko! Did you by chance get hurt on your head when you were young!!" she hissed back.

"Waah beta!! Ulta chor kotwaal ko daate.." he claps his hands and mocks at her. She looks at him scornfully.

"Oh sorry main bhool gaya.. baby, this means that -"

"STOP. Stop fighting like kids!" DD said loudly.

Siddharth and Roshni look at her and then look at each other making faces. They stood looking at the ground like a kid being scolded for his wrongdoing.

"Sorry" they say together to her.

"You have been told clearly that you will stay apart till you get married, then how many times shall we have to make this thing clear in your head?" she asks them.

"Sasumom, we ARE married. This is just a formality that we are doing to make you guys happy, but aaplogo ko hamari khushiya se pata nahi janam janam ka problem hai.." he says playfully.

"Theek hai! Phir le jao isko.. it is just a formality right? You don't have to be so grateful to us! C'mon take her away!" she says and leaves to go.

"Arre Sasumom, aap toh bura maan gayi!! Acha baba!! Kaan pakar ke maafi mangta hu aapse!! We will do whatever you say, ok? Happy?" he asks her.

"Yes Mom, we are sorry. Please forgive us?" asks Roshni innocently and pouts.

Seeing her like that DD melts and hugs her.

"Wow!! Maine kaan pakad ke maafi maangi aur mujhe kuch nahi mila?" he asks incredulously.

"Come here!" DD says.

He happily goes towards her expecting a hug. But she slaps him lightly on his cheeks and says,

"This is your punishment for coming here so late at night!!"

Roshni chuckles looking at them. It was the happiest moment of her life, after so much of struggles finally the two people whom she loved the most in the world were getting along!

Suddenly Siddharth sees that the cockroach was on top of the side table behind them, he shouts,

"COCKROACH" and points at the table making both DD and Roshni jump. They immediately spring towards Siddharth; both of them clutch his arms on either side, being scared of the cockroach. Siddharth for a moment looks at his arms where they clutch him and then at their faces. This made him beam with happiness and gave him courage to do what came next.

"Arre nothing will happen! Main hoon na!" he consoles both of them by placing his hands on top of theirs. He moves forward slowly and catches hold of the cockroach. He swings the trembling insect towards the mother-daughter which makes them shriek. He laughs loudly and goes near the window where he throws it out finally.

"I will remember this day forever. Durga Devi aka DD aka meri pyaari Sasumom is scared of cockroaches!!" he breaks down into fits of laughter.

"Acha Sasumom , I will take your leave now. But before that since YOU want us to behave like we are not married, that means I am her boyfriend. So officially I would like to ask your daughter out for a date tomorrow with your permission." he grins broadly.

"But we are shifting tomorrow and there will be loads of work - " Nani cuts her off.

"Durga, abh apni beti se kaam karwaogi kya! Let her enjoy, ache se puch raha hai na Sid!!"

"Uhh Okay." agrees DD.

"Bye Nani Ma, sorry itni raat ko disturb kiya aapko! Adios Sasumom !! I love you, Baby" he winks at Roshni making her flush and leaves. DD shakes her head unbelievingly and goes to her room followed by Nani. Roshni goes to close the door when Siddharth again appears.

"Tum gaye nahi abhi tak?" she whispers.

"I left my phone inside!" he gets in hurriedly; without noticing that both his and Roshni's phone were lying side by side he takes her phone instead of his. He turns to leave when he notices Roshni looking at him admiringly. He immediately gives a peck on her cheeks breaking her trance and leaves, leaving her stunned with excitement.

Siddharth's Room

He freshens up and reclines on his bed. This will be the last day that he will be sleeping in her room. He will miss it, since he had many memories with it. He looks around and finally notices his phone on the side table, he picks it up.

"I have to make so many arrangements for the date tomorrow! Oh Kiara is also going to come!! She had asked me for dinner tomorrow so that we could catch up, let me text her that I won't be able to make it!"

He flips open the phone to his astonishment he realizes that it was not his.

"Ohho!! I think I took her phone by mistake! I have Kiara's number written down here somewhere.." he walks to the study table and picks up the paper. Finally he types a text; signs his name at the bottom and sends it to her. Flipping through the text he comes across one which captivated his interest. He opens it,

Happy Birthday, Mr. Khurana! I hope you are enjoying yourself with your family. Look what you have done; I could not even meet my mother on her birthday last month. All because of you. I hate you Siddharth Khurana.. I hate you...and the worst part is that I love you even when I hate you!!"

He keeps reading the text over and over again as he could not believe his eyes. He tried to understand each and every word and the hidden feelings of her which were in them.

[FLASHBACK:

It had been three months that his life had ended. No he wasn't dead but the meaning of his life, his Roshni was not with him. All he did was work. Since his father had a mild heart attack, he had dedicated all his time to work and finding his Roshni. He was in his office working on a very important project. When his mother had called him,

"Hello, Sid? Woh please come home early today beta! I have a surprise for you!" she said happily.

"Sorry Mom, but I cannot come. I have a presentation to make and then I have a video meeting with the London clients as well." he replied flatly.

"Beta, please just once listen to me" she said sadly still persisting.

"You never listened to me. Why should I? I have lots of pending work Mom. Please." he replies.

"Bye. I will wait for you Sid." She cuts the call.

Siddharth gets busy with work. After a couple of hours, when he completed his presentation he looks at the time. It was 8.00p.m. His meeting was scheduled for 11.00p.m. He could run home for some time for whatever his mother wanted him to come. With a heavy heart he takes his keys and leaves. On reaching the pent house, he saw that the entrance was crowded. There was a party being held on the building. He shrugged and beeps the horn so that he could enter the garage. But to his vain, people were busy among themselves ignoring his honking. He rolls down the window pane and before he could ask the watchman to clear the crowd he heard someone say,

"Wow!! Party at the Khurana's after such a long time!!" said someone.

"Yes, thank God it is Siddharth Khurana's birthday! We will get to enjoy the free food.." giggled the other.

Sudden realization dawned upon him that it was his birthday today. His mother must have arranged a party for him.

"Has mom gone crazy? Why is she hurting me more by doing these things!! How am I supposed to make her understand that I cannot live my life without life itself!!"- he thought.

He rolls his windows back up and drives away. He keeps on driving and stops near the beach. He remembers a particular conversation that he had with her,

"Siddharth, Five months are left for your birthday to come! I promise I will learn to make a cake by then!" she said innocently looking at the burnt cake.

"Arre baba, I don't want any cake on my birthday! I just want you to be with me! Cake ka kya hai baby, bahaar se mangwa lenge" he winks at her and pulls her closer to him.

"Pich! It is so obvious Siddharth that I will be with you!! Where will I go, huh? I really want to learn how to make a cake so that I could treat you!" she replied with a pout.

"Baby, tum roz apne sare huye, jale huye khane se treat karti ho! Uss din rehem khana please!" he teased. Roshni rolled her eyes and smacked him.

"You had said you will be with me this day. Where are you Roshni? Where should I find you? Please come back to me. Come back to your Siddharth." he said out loud with tears rolling down his cheeks.

He gets down and walks towards the shore. He sits on the sand and says,

"I promised myself I would never come here again after that dreadful day.. but I.. I.. this place makes me feel that you are with me."

He writes something down on the wet sand, and weeps silently.

"Wow. What a birthday!" he said finally and wipes off his tears. He gets up and leaves after sitting there for some time. He sits in the car and sees that there were 10 missed calls from his mother. He ignores it and drives to work.

The waves washed down his message as it came ashore which read -

"I miss you, Love"]

Siddharth smiles as he read the message a hundredth time. His Roshni remembered his birthday! She even wrote down a message to him, only if she would have sent it!

"You could never hate me Roshni, I know that.. your love for me was greater than your hatred for the lie I told." he whispers and kisses the screen. He keeps the phone aside and sleeps.

In the morning

Siddharth was eating breakfast with his family. Kritika still did not want to come out of her room. Workers were busy packing up their stuff as they were going to shift in their old mansion.

"Sid, woh Doctor... what was her name?" asked Simran.

"Kiara, Mom!" he replied flatly and continued reading the newspaper.

"Haan, when is she coming? We don't have much time. The Patel's are also going to come here today na beta!" she said anxiously.

"Don't worry Mom! I had a talk with her a while back; she is on her way here. Trust me, Mom she is a very good doctor and she can help Kritika." he added to calm her down.

After sometime, all their stuff was packed. They were waiting for the doctor after which they would leave for their mansion. Kiara enters, instantly. She was a tall, thin dark woman who looked more like a model than a doctor. She wore round spectacles and her hair was tied to a high ponytail. She wore a white shirt and a pencil skirt. She walks in towards Siddharth who was working on his laptop on the sofa. He immediately looks up when he hears the noise of her heels nearing him.

"Hi! Siddharth! Long time yaar!" she hugs him.

"Hey! Yeah, long time!" he hugs her back in a friendly way.

"Arre DDji, please come inside." said Simran from behind looking at the entrance.

Immediately, Siddharth lets go of Kiara and turns to see a glowering Roshni at the entrance who was trying hard to fake a smile to her sasumom. Siddharth fakes a grin and gulps down -

"Hey bhagwaaan, aaj mujhe bacha lena iss khalnayika se!!"
