People here seem to be discrediting Rani as an actress. Greater star, sure, but more so because of her international image. Being a Miss world, being on the Oprah Winfrey show, even being a Bachchan bahu...All that goes in her favor. But Rani is the better actress. She can act far far far more better than Aish. Like you said, acting in subjective and I personally would watch Rani any day over Aish.

Stardom is BOX OFFICE.

All these beauty titles, awards, lists, appearances blah blah are extras.

No matter how much Ash fans talk, Ash was never a draw at BO except for 1999.

Rani has given hits with likes of Vivek and Abhishek also. She was very much a draw at ticket counters and was fondly nicknamed Rani Hindustani given her popularity back then.

Aishwarya Rai is not comparable in stardom. She is a super successful model and diva, that's it.

Personally, I always preferred Rani to Ash. Ash always came across as more of a pretty hollow face. She had a few good performances, but otherwise left me tepid most of the time.

Ash fans. They will always fall in the category of fitted sheets and cling wrap. I'll never understand them in a million lifetimes. To each their own though.

Anyways you're spot on with your critique, I agree 100%. The climax in particular had me in stitches because they showed a chubby 5 ft nothing woman taking on a tall, muscular baddie 🤣 How ridiculous was that scene dude? Very unrealistic, absurd and unconvincing. and Rani's acting was nothing to write home about either, she was basically in her NOKJ mode and all she did was try to act like a badass by giving gaalis or punching villains 🤪

Vidya on the other hand was sublime!

LOL. I know. Shit happens sometimes. 😆

Rani is a great actress but she was unconvincing in Mardaani. Vidya WAS very sublime (like you said) in Kahaani. However she did steal that filmfare from PC who deserved it more for Barfi.

Yea Rani is a good actress and all that jazz but also highly overrated imo.

well I guess PC's role in Barfi was not big enough since the movie basically revolved around Ranbir's title character and Vidya on the other hand was the sole protagonist of Kahaani.

major difference is screenplay..kahaani had a terrific screenplay.. slick and unpredictable.
mardaani was mediocre screenplay, u cannot make a terrific cinema out of an avg screenplay how hard u try..the guy who played the villain was the saving grace..rani was ok.
