Did not watch Mardaani.
I loved Kahaani. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. Not a single boring moment. Suspense, mysterious, great acting, screen play --- > Recipe of a super good movie!

Kahaani came out after Dirty Picture where people were excited about Vidya's next movie. Rani's last movie before Mardaani was Bombay Talkies which no one really saw. Kahani had a curiosity factor, Mardaani's story could be figured out through the trailer itself.
Kahani was a better movie than Mardaani, Mardaani became a little filmy at the climax. Performance wise both were at par, Vidya edging out Rani is sheerly due to the fact that she perfected the pregnant woman act.
But, Rani should have gotten some recognition at award shows. A special mention or something.

Maybe because the superior Kahaani was miles ahead of the mediocre Mardaani in every aspect? Mardaani was one flawed product. Vidya also outperforms the OTT Rani with her subtle yet powerful acting and her character was so mysterious! Rani on the other hand was trying too hard to come across as a badass cop and her filmy outbursts were making me chuckle 😆

so yeah...Kahaani>Mardaani

Mardaani was an attempt of a very serious film tackling a very serious issue. The film was straightforward and predictable. No twists, nothing out of the ordinary. It was more of a 'fact' film rather than 'fiction.'

Kahaani was more of a fiction film where there were interesting twists and turns. What made it even better was Vidya's acting that no one expected her to do as well as she did.

Just kinda disappoints me that the film and Rani's acting were underrated. Glad she got the deserved recognition outside of India. :-)

Chadhta suraj ko salaam. When Kahani released Vidya was climbing the ladder. But when Mardaani released Rani was kicked out of the game of snakes and ladders.

The film gave Rani the most needed hit film tag after her last successfull release NOKJ back in 2011 (and maybe Talaash in 2012, but that was a film with 3 leads). So I would not say it was left unnoticed. Apart from the box office success which she did get here, she also got a lot of praise from audience and industry. They even think about a sequel.

But yeah the boom of Kahaani was missed.

But I'm happy that the film surprised everyone and managed to be a success (despite Singham 2). 👍🏼

I think many people already nailed it here. Kahaani was a suspense film with universal appeal. There wasn't much mature content. To add, it was a beautifully made film. The way it captured the spirit of Kolkatta and then unfurled a mystery within it was beautiful.
Mardaani on the other hand was a mature film. It was gritty and rough. It probably didn't appeal to families. I also think the story execution was a bit choppy and not as flawless as Kahaani. Promos were a bit weak too.

All in all though, Rani deserves a bit more accolades for Mardaani than she got. Kudos to her for taking the risk to make such a film and pulling it off well.

Like everyone said ..Kahaani was a mystery thriller .They have a shocking climax , either you like it or hate it .Everyone kind of liked it .Apart from that Vidya and other cast members. The hype around her due to TDP helped the film .Even though it is a pretty well made cinema .

Mardaani title just sucks ..The film is pretty good but It is not a film for everyone .It touched a sensitive issue and showed it pretty well ,but the subject is such that it becomes predictable ..I am still happy the film did well ..

No I don't think Rani was ignored .She was nominated in every award .That is enough for what she did ,
