1. melody and loads of loads of melody
2. Less emphasis on technique and more on voice
3. songs were more original
4. Singers were learned

I used to be obsessed with Kehna Hi Kya when I first heard it. And Zara Zara. ❤️

Those songs from Akele Hum Akele Tum, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, and Taal.

DEFINITELY!

This was the era in which AR Rahman was in actual slayer status.

I still maintain that although his music today is not what it used to be, his songs of the 90s are superior and better than basically all the production of today 😆

Dil Se, Kadhal Desam, Roja, Taal, Humse Hain Muqabala, Jeans...

dear god I don't know when to stop listing. He made GEMS back then! More than anyone else, I'm most proud of AR Rahman for becoming an internationally-known person in the arts.

Also, the 90s were the time of Indi-Pop, which I with so much sadness realize will never come back.
