No Indian TV serials on Christian culture. Serials of many cultures like North Indian, South Indian, Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Marwari, Gujarati, Muslim cultures. But there r no shows on Christian culture in Indian Television. Why is it so?

If there was a market, PHs would have made it. Those decisions are usually based on money, not on prejudice

I remember one such on zee TV ages back and it flopped=> it has no market.

Also,if they will ever have a good story,it can run just as fine but who works that hard? All they do is have big houses and heavy makeup and those regular festival celebrations and drama.

There were a couple of shows on Zee like Margarita in 90s.

It is not like shows have not been there.

BTW why should Indian TV represent every culture? Do serials abroad have separate shows for Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists etc? Why do you question only India?

It's pure demand and supply.

Whichever content gets more audience, that sets the trend.

Actually there was a show called Outsourced on NBC (I think) based on Indians and most were Hindus in it. It got cancelled after 1 season. I think I was the only person who watched it😆

I think she is questioning India because she is likely Indian

These decisions are hardly ever based on prejudice. If they could have made money off it, it would have been done. As simple as that.

Even Christianity is in India. Bollywood had movies on Christian culture like Bobby, Julie, Khamoshi. Then TV too can try it.

Indian TV did try it in 90s.

It's not like it wasn't tried.

And if the user is likely Indian then she would know how much Christians have been represented whether in 90s shows, or Bollywood films like Bobby, Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb, Dost etc.

Yes we know Christianity is in India. You don't need to remind us. They had shows and films on them.

Ever seen other countries making shows and films on each community? Please do tell me which ones and how many (genuinely asking). India did make films and programs on each!

Yes the United States does. They have shows based on Hispanics, Blacks, Muslims, Jews and as I mentioned one on Indians / Hindus as well. They have minority charcaters on almost every show, sometimes even Indian (How I Met Your Mother)

Having minority characters is one thing. Making whole shows based on them and their way of life is different.

They had 1 show on "Indians/Hindus". Was it normal or satirical/comedy?

India has made normal shows and films on everyone be it Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis etc everyone and sister channels of DD and private channels based on every region have even more serials on each community of the region. Proper stories and not comedies alone.

Therefore I don't think diverse representation on Indian TV is really an issue.
