Too bad the ban fizzled out even before the pinch could be felt by the consumers. Ah, if only the ban could have extended to exclude all beverages and permit the consumption of only and only coconut water while in Kerala 😆

Obesity can damage organs too.

Who will suffer?
Only addicts and manufacturers will suffer.

Alcohol industry is huge enough globally that bans in a small state or country do not affect it.
Addicts won't suffer because they will find illicit sources, unless of course they die of poisoning from illicit alcohol.

The average citizen who operates alcohol oriented establishments will suffer.
The tourist who cannot enjoy their idea of a vacation will suffer.
The average law abiding person like me who likes to enjoy a few drinks in company will suffer.

Beef can fill stomachs of sane people unlike alcohol. So comparing alcohol ban with beef ban is ridiculous.

It is not. Reduced to a gist it is just the same. The problems/whims of some infringing on the civil liberties of others.

What next? Don't tell me you support tobacco, marijuana, etc etc.

I don't smoke or do hard drugs because nicotine and hard drugs are damaging.

I will drink because I know to drink responsibly. I will smoke weed on occasion.

But i support alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth, LSD, X, Speed whatever poison people want to pump in their system is fine by me.

Actually, not all alcohol is banned.

Toddy shops, beer and wine parlors are allowed everywhere.

Only the selling of distilled alcohol in public beverage outlets is banned. It is still allowed in a few hotels which have a license to sell them. The Govt's motive behind the ban was to keep drunken people off the road and public places. It was sold in public outlets at a far cheaper rate than it was in hotels. Those people who depend on such outlets are usually the ones who drink like fishes and are all over the place. The folks who can afford to buy it from hotels are expected to behave more modestly so let off on that account.

In Kerala,100's of Govt's Beverages stores still open...only Bar Hotels closed...closing BAR hotels, will not keep people from consuming alcohol. On contrary it will increase black market... if 5 star hotel can serve Alcohol, why not 4 or lower star hotels.????😕
Before people used to drink one or two pegs from small Bars...now they are buying bottles from Govt. stores...prohibition of any stuff does not stop people consuming it. If people want to consume it, they would find out ways. Smuggling from neighboring states or union territories inside state..

Yes it should banned, for only one reason.-Drunk driving.

The state has the highest per capita consumption of alcohol and high percent of drunk driven fatalities.
I don't know how it is anywhere else but people here have a terrible habit of going for a drive when they're tipsy.Of late there had been strict patrolling to catch them and even the first time offenders would have their driving license suspended.Still, the accidents are not coming down at all.So I don't know whether anything else would work, but a ban.

Edit -- (since I sense a connection of this topic with another ban topic😆)

No,no I'm not advocating it for any particular religion😆 Drunk driving is so common here.So my stand is strictly regarding public safety. And my safety as well.Getting driven over by a drunk lunatic is the last thing I fancy.

If,somehow drunken people can be kept off the road, then I'd rather not have the ban.

since it's so easy to pick on alcohol, let me make a 'case' for it.,😛 Here goes-
we all know that alcohol kills. But have you ever thought how many are born because of it?😆

or how about following- it helps even ugly females get laid.

alcohol is also part of a balanced diet. A beer in each hand, you know.

thanks to alcohol, you've got the likes of tycoons like mallya. No mallya, no swimsuit calendar girls

chemially speaking, it is a solution.

and to quote Confucious- man who drink beer all day have Wet Dream all night.😆

think about it.😆

Should government ban Alcohol, since most crime happens under the influence of alcohol ?

A number of rape cases that made it to the headlines recently had also reported alcohol consumption by the rapists but to ban or not will depend on whether the scriptures have mentioned alcohol as holy or unholy 🤢

People can live without many things. That doesn't mean we should. People need to be assured of certain personal freedoms.

That is their problem.

Why punish everyone because some people are stupid? That is like not letting healthy people enjoy junk food once in a while because a fraction of the population is getting obese.

Why are you treating alcohol like nectar... ...its better to have few less bevdas in the country... ...
