Rosy was the most difficult role of the movie

when your character allows you to cry or break down..it gives you an edge however rosy (since she was an imagination) had to express it all without all that..just her eyes. She had to convey the pain without mouthing dramatic dialogues, crying or breaking down..it was all the work of her eyes..and i got to say it..she nailed every emotion coming out of those eyes

the scene where aamir asks her to leave it all and start a new life and she goes "itna asaan thori na hai sahab"

the scene where she is standing in the middle of the road and aamir is driving the car

the scene where she saves aamir when he was under the sea

her eyes conveyed the pain beautifully and in a very subtle manner

P.S: this comes from some one who dislikes kareena..so you can imagine the magnitude of the impact she made with this one

I will say that Kareena walks with a lot more love from the audience b/c of that plot twist. I think if the roles were switched and if Rani had played Rosie she would have gotten more of the praise b/c how tricky it is to play a dead person without giving out hints to the audience.

Rani would have ruined Rosy...Rosy required a glamorous and seductive actress...Kareena was perfect for the role.

Don't get me wrong, I think Kareena did it to the T, but Rani can be seductive like in Aiyya and Sawaariya. I don't think it would have made sense to how Kareena play the simple housewife and Rani play the glam prostitute, but I do think if Rani had played Rosy--she would have nailed it too. And probs walked away with more of the praise b/c that character was tricky to play.
