Ajab Leher Hai Meri Padosi
Chapter 8
[Mere jaise laakhon miley honge tujhko piya... mujhe toh mila tu hi
tu hi mere hoonthon ki khilti hui si hasi... gila bhi piya tu hi]
He stood there, too shocked to react. She was right, why didn't he think of it that way? The temptation was so alluring, yes the way she looked at him right now, he swore he could take her then and there. But he couldn't, he just couldn't push himself to take that plunge, it was frustrating.
"That's simply because you don't turn me on" a satisfied smirk lurked in the corner of his mouth as he saw all colors drain out of her face.
He turned around and left the place. She didn't try to stop him this time.
~~~~~
If anyone would have guessed that Ishita was the one who won't be able to sleep that night was so very wrong, it was the other way round.
He tossed and turned in his bed, sleep was the last thing on his mind. He couldn't justify his own behavior today, never had he shown so much restrain to protect the dignity of a woman. If there was another woman offering herself so openly to him, he would have grabbed the opportunity with both hands. So what was so different about her that he didn't want to harm her? The answer wasn't definitely what he told her, infact it was the farthest from the truth. Truth? But what was the truth? He didn't know, maybe the fact that she was so clingy irritated him. He sighed, that was the most probable reason and he would try to satisfy himself with that.
~~~~~~~~
If Mihir Arora was shocked with the discovery, he face didn't show it.
'Ishita Iyer', he thought, oh God how did I not see this before. So, there was so much more to worry about Ishita Iyer than just Ruhi.
~~~~~~~~~
Raman was waiting for Mihir in his cabin, his two days were over. His patience was on the brink of extinction.
He was right, Ishita didn't bother him in the past two days. The only times he saw her was once when she was playing with Ruhi and other children in the park and the other time when she was softly towel-drying her wet hair in her balcony. He had stood by his window, unable to move. She was humming a song and had a smile in her face, as if his rejection didn't matter to her at all.
"But why is it bothering you?" Destiny asked
~~~~~~~
"Bhai you won't believe what I found" Mihir said as he entered Raman's, he paused "Ofcourse that could have been a total coincidence" he went on rambling
"Mihir shutup and come to the point" he hlared at Mihir
"Bhai I couldn't find the hospital she was born in" Mihir said making a sad face
"WHAT?" Raman roared "I gave you a simple task and you couldn't do it?"
"but Bhai..."
"What but? I can't believe you can be so irresponsible"
"But..."
"Get out and don't show me your face until you find out everything about her"
"Ok, I'll go..." Mihir pretended to leave, he opened the door and looked back "...because I'm sure that you are least interested in knowing thai Miss Ishita Iyer was my classmate back in DPS. I'll go now bhai"
"WHAT?" Raman stood there, shocked, he recovered when he saw Mihir leaving again "no, wait, come back right now"
"No bhai I'll leave and try to find the hospital she was born in" Mihir once again pretended to leave
"Screw the hospital, why the hell didn't you tell me about this the first time when I asked for her biodata?"
Mihir came back and sat on the chair opposite to Raman "I didn't know that she was your neighbor, I hired a detective to do it. It was only after you gave me the deadline that I personally looked into the files" Mihir suddenly started blushing "And I am so glad I looked into the files" he blushed some more and held raman's hands into his "Thank you so much bhai, I've been looking for her everywhere, it was only because of you that I found her again. You are the best"
Raman gave him a are-you-out-of-your-mind look "You like her"
Mihir blushed and shook his head in a yes.
"But you can't like her" came Raman's instant reply, he shocked himself for a second time that week.
"Why not bhai?" Mihir asked, hurt
"because... Mmm... Because she's not that good looking you know" he lied through his teeth "come on Mihir you could do much better than Ishita" he tried to reason out, he knew he was looking silly
Mihir looked confused for a second and then realization hit him "First thing first, Ishita isn't ugly, infact more than half of the guys in our class had crush on her but it was a different thing altogether that she didn't give a shit" he paused "And second thing, I like her sister, Mihika, not her"
Raman didn't know why he felt relieved that Mihir didn't like ishita. That's probably because I can't see Mihir's heart broken, he reasoned out.
"On a serious note, don't worry about Ishita bhai. She can't even harm a fly, let alone hurt Ruhi" he rose to leave
"Wait, what did you mean by she didn't give a shit?" Raman asked
Mihir controlled the grin that was threatening to come out "what?" he asked, as if he didn't get what raman said.
"I asked what did you say about half of the boys in your class?" Raman pretended to be mildly curious about it, when each cell of his brain was dying to know more.
"Oh that, you don't have to worry about that bhai, that has nothing to do with Ruhi"
"Shut up and answer what I asked" Raman glared at him
Mihir sat down again "There were many in my friend circle who asked her out, but everytime she politely replied that she was taken, committed sort of" he shrugged his shoulders "It was hard to imagine Ishita, who didn't even talk to boys, committed. We always thought that she was making it up just to get rid of the guys, you know"
He was shocked to hear that, the Ishita he knew was just opposite to what Mihir described. This girl was a total confusion. But it still didn't make sense as to how he knew her; Mihir was 7 years younger to him, so that meant Ishita was in class 5 when he passed out of DPS. Oh yes that's when it hit him,
'Ravan Kumar' 'Ravan Kumar' 'Ravan Kumar'
"you know me"
"you would love to know this that you have a very high regard for me"
"You can't stand in there and do nothing Mr Ravan Kumar"
"Did you just call me what I heard you call me?" he asked
"Raman Kumar... Isn't that what your name is?" she said "What else would I call you?"
He still looked confused "Nothing" He sighed "I just thought you called me Ravan"
"Really? Who gave you that perfect name?"
"I just remembered there was this girl back in school, a small chubby girl with two pigtails"
"Oh ho... secrets ha? So did you have a secret crush on that chubby pigtailed girl?"
"What are we? Best friends? That I should share all my secrets with you?"
"She was a baby for God's sake" When she returned a 'i-don't-believe-you' look he continued as if justifying himself "I was in my final year of high school and that baby little girl I'm talking about was a 5th or 6th grader. So you see there is no way of any other connections here"
"So how come you remember what she called you?"
"That's because she gave me an advice one day and I didn't follow it" his eyes grew dark "And I shall regret that all my life" he sighed "and she also called me Ravan Kumar on my face, some guts she had"
"OH MY GOD" He sighed loudly, he couldn't believe what was happening. He finally had the answer to who she was, but instead of clearing his confusions, it was creating more confusion for him. Questions were bubbling up in his head.
"Bhai, are you ok?" Mihir asked him for the third time, this time shaking him out of his reverie.
"huh?"
"I asked if you were ok, you look pale"
"I need to go" raman said as he stood up "I'll see you tomorrow"
~~~~~~~~
As he sat in his car, destined to her clinic, he couldn't help but wonder what a mystery this woman was. The more he solved her, the more he went deeper into the mystery. He recalled her words a few days ago, he didn't understood it then but it made sense now
"Mr Bhalla, She didn't send me here, you need to stop doubting everyone or else you will miss out the people who genuinely want to help you" she sighed "Just like the little girl back in school"
His car came to a halt outside her clinic. He was about to park his car when he realized he didn't know what to talk to her. What would he say? That he knew who she was and that he had questions to ask? what if she wasn't interested in him anymore? After all she didn't bother him for the last two days, he would become a laughing stock then. No, he couldn't let that happen. He quickly turned his car in the direction it came from.
~~~~~~~
Unaware of it all, Ishita sat in her clinic, happy. Yes, she did cry that night, after crying for hours, she suddenly realized what a fool she was. Even when she went ahead and boldly gave herself away, he cared about her dignity. She wasn't just another woman he would sleep with. This realization gave her immense satisfaction. She cursed herself a million times for the shamelessness she had displayed and she still doesn't know what she would have done had he accepted her offer. She blushed at the thought, but thanks to that, she atleast knew that for him, she was different from the others and that even if a little, he did care for her.
She didn't know what her next step should be, so she took a break until she could decide something.
It was just that she didn't know what her silence was doing to him...
~~~~~~~~~
He returned home to a familiar sight that didn't bother him anymore, Ishita was sitting on a park bench, smiling as she watched Ruhi play at a distance. But his eyes today wasn't on Ruhi, it was on the mystic women whom he was trying hard to unravel.
She felt his gaze on her and quickly looked at him. He seemed to have been taken off-guards, so she smiled at him, to ease his tension.
He looked at her smiling at him; that gave him the courage to go ahead. He took slow steps towards her, she seemed to be surprised when he sat beside her on the bench.
"So the chubby girl hasn't lost her baby fat yet" he decided to start on a lighter note "Where did the pigtails go by the way?"
He chuckled as he saw her shocked face looking at him like he just confessed of a murder. He smirked "Come on, did you think I would never find out? I am The Raman Kumar Bhalla, I have my sources. You should be shocked that it took this long for me to find it out"
"I... I.." she stammered as his smirk increased "I just didn't think it would be so important for you to go to such lengths to find out about a woman who doesn't even turn you on" she now gave a victory smile as she saw that smirk wipe out of his face.
"You challenged me, and I don't like to lose" He said after recovering from the shock.
There was silence that seemed to have stretched for eons
"That chubby girl did away with her pigtails the day her ravan said that it looked stupid" she smiled "She didn't want to look stupid in front of him" she looked at the setting sun at a distant, lost in her own world.
He looked at her, trying to understand her
"When?" he asked
"The first time she saw him" she said, referring to both as third person "the first time he saved her from that bully, Rohan, who was pulling her pigtail" she smiled
"How come I don't remember that" he asked confused
"He saved dozens of people everyday; it wasn't important for him. But for her, her world and everything in it changed the day he entered it."
