Chapter 37
A Holi to end
Arnav emerged out of the gates of the Arlanda Stockholm airport and immediately spottedd the company car. The driver jumped out and opened the door for him. He sank down in the plush interiors of the mercedes and directed the driver to take him to the City Prison immediately!
Arnav let out a deep sigh. The time had come to deal with Shyam Manohar Jha! At last the man was in jail!
How dare Shyam bely his innocent Di's trust..cheat her, betray her..He clenched his fist, and closed his eyes in pain. He had failed Di as he had failed Maa...
He had not been able to prevent his beloved Maa's death. He had stood outside the door of her room staring at her limpless body in disbelief...
After her death, Di had been his only source of succor and sustenance. He had cried with her, in her embrace, for what seemed like hours...
But when he had raised his head from her shoulders his eyes were dry and lifeless. With a steady hand he had wiped away Di's tears and vowed never to let pain sting her eyes again! And he had kept his promise till Shyam Manohar Jha came into Di's life!
He closed his eyes in pain and rested his head on the seat and took a deep breath! He, the great ASR, the sharp businessman, had failed to understand the real intention of his Jijaji in marrying his Di. All Shyam's praises for Ranisahiba, all his love for her, all his promises were all false, everything was a farce.
Arnav opened his eyes. They were dry and lifeless again today... Shyam would pay dearly for every tear he had made Di shed!

"Saale sahab! Saale sahab!" Shyam flung himself on the bars of the prison, his eyes wild, a shiver running through him. "Save me! Get me out of here!"
Arnav looked into Shyam's terrified eyes and smirked. In a few days time Shyam had lost a lot of weight and his eyes had sunk into their sockets.
"Can't you hear me?" a dishevelled Shyam stretched out a shaking hand and grabbed Arnav's coat, "I want to go back home," he whimpered.
For a second Arnav did not bat an eyelid. And then abruptly his body filled with rage, his eyes bloodshot, he brushed Shyam's hand off his coat...
The next moment Shyam's ugly neck was in Arnav's vice like grip, his fingers pressing hard against his wind pipe...
"Shut up you piece of s****!"Arnav's voice cut in like a whiplash,"This is where you belong...behind bars...and this is where you will stay...unless..!"
Shyam looked at Arnav with disbelief and broke into a sweat.
He tried to speak but could only croak in fright. His eyes bulged and his body stilled as ASR tightened his hold on his throat and whispered menacingly in his ears, "And the prison authorities told me you should get a 20 years sentence for carrying counterfeit money in this country! So I do hope you rot in hell!"
"No, no, no...Shyam's panicked voice rose.
"Is there a problem sir?" the prison guard standing against the far wall enquired in a curious tone.
"No problem at all," Arnav retorted in a casual voice. "My brother in law is crying in remorse..."
The prison guard laughed sarcastically and walked away.
"Don't go..." Shyam screamed after him but Arnav quickly covered Shyam's mouth with his palm and said, "Shut up, you b******!
He twisted Shyam's hand behind his back whispering, "The pain I am causing you is not even one per cent of the pain that you have caused my Di!"
"Ahhh!" Shyam cried as he felt his arm dislocated, "Let me go...ahhh!" he wailed.
"I might but only if you sign these papers!" he said thrusting sheets of paper at Shyam.
"What is this?" Shyam shuddered, as pain and panic filled him.
"Divorce papers, you scum, so that my Di can be rid of you forever!" Arnav's eyes blazed anger and he punched Shyam in the stomach and pushed him away with such force that Shyam fell crashed to the ground with a loud thud and the unmistakable sound of a bone cracking open!
"Ooo...Ahhh!" Shyam screamed at the top of his lungs holding on to his broken leg!

"What Aakash, is it true, I can't believe this..." Nani sobbed over the phone.
"Its true Nani...Bhai and Di are coming to meet you and the family..." Aakash reassured her, his heart bursting with joy.
"When bitwa when?" Nani could neither contain her tears or her excitement.
"Soon Nani. At present bhai is in Stockholm for some urgent work but as soon as he comes back, we will be flying to Kolkata."
"Oh and another thing Nani..."Aakash paused.
"Yes bitwa what is it...?" Nani asked.
Do you remember Diwanji...Shashi Gupta?"
"Shashi..." Nani whispered trying to remember...
"But of course..."suddenly she gasped, "And his sister, Madhumati, we used to be very good friends once, she was like a sister to me...what about them!" Nani shrieked in her excitement.
Aakash thought his ear drums had burst but he grinned.
"Well Shashi Gupta's daughters, Payal and Khushi Gupta really helped me a lot. We owe a lot to them...and so I was...I mean Di was wondering if we can get them along..."
"Yes certainly, I remember meeting them when they were little girls," Nani replied at once with a smile in her voice, "I would love to meet Madhumati's nieces now! Please invite them to our home on my behalf."
"And Aakash bitwa please try to come by Holi...so that I can celebrate this Holi with all of you by my side...my family..."
Arnav and Anjali will be in my arms soon...I will tell them why I had to go away...they will surely forgive me...she sniffed... tears rolled down her sallow cheeks ...

Victoria Memorial, Calcutta/Kolkata
"Hey Devi Maiyya! Victoria Memorial! Anjali ji, Jiji see, see" khushi said excitedly as the car crossed the landmark monument of Kolkata.
Anjali and Payal peered out of the window and smiled broadly.
"Yes it is beautiful, isn't it?"Aakash said. "And look ahead Khushiji," he said pointing towards the road looming up ahead, "That is Park Street and you will love it as some of the oldest and best eating joints of Kolkata are here!"
"Really!" Khushi said her eyes wide aand gleaming, "Then I will definitely come here with..." She stopped in mid sentence. She was about to say that she would love to visit all these places with Arnav...
Khushi chewed on her lower lip. This was new! When she was happy she wanted to share her happiness with him! She missed him!
Where was that Laat Governor! He had told Anjali di he would be meeting them straight at the Kolkata airport! But he wasn't there when they landed! She had made a casual enquiry about him and was told by Anjali di that he had missed the connecting flight from Sweden to India. Khushi sighed and looked out of the window without actually noticing anything.

Devyani Raizada shaded her eyes from the sun's glare. Her heart palpilated as the car screeched to a halt in front of her huge bungalow
Devyani Raizada clutched her son Manohar's hand in nervousness. "They are here..." she whispered.
"Hello hi, bye bye," Manorama chirped adjusting her hair bun, " Arrey Sasuma ee koi Royal Bengal Tigers to hai nahi! Why fear when Manorama is near! (Mother in law they are not Royal Bengal Tigers!)
Manohar Raizada glared at his wife as Anjali hobbled out of the car with Aakash's help followed by Khushi and Payal.
Anjali stopped short as she saw Nani! Yes it was her! Those moist grey eyes were mellow and wise like they had always been. Only the wrinkles around them had webbed deeper. Her hair, half covered with a cream silk saree had turned grey. Her face seemed to have shrunk but it had not lost its grace...and her lips trembled in a wary smile...
A sobbed escaped Anjali's lips...
And she flung herself into Nani's arms...
Devyani Raizada sobbed uncontrollably as she held Anjali against her heart and stroked her hair with frail hands again and again... her lips chanting a prayer of thanks to Devi Maiyya.
Mami Mami could not hold themselves back and they hugged the duo. Both Nani and Anjali started laughing and they beckoned to Aakash who lurched at them in glee almost knocking down his family.
Khushi and Payal beamed with delight at such a happy sight.
Nani smiled at them. "Welcome my daughters! You must be dear Diwanji's daughters. I know your Buaji very well too!"
The sisters touched Nani's feet and Khushi said, "Yes Buaji had such wonderful things to say about you. That is why she let us come here so far away from Lakshminagar otherwise you know Buaji..."
Nani laughed and nodded her head.
Manorama came waddling along. "Hello hi, bye bye! Ee kaun hai sasuma. Inko fashionwa ka sensewa hi naahi hai! (Who are they mother in law? They have no sense of fashion!) " she looked the girls up and down with disdain.
"Manorama!" Devyani Mallik admonished her immediately. "Khushi and Payal are our guests! Now hand me the Holi thaal, Manorama!"
"So many colours Nani," Anjali hugged Nani seeing the huge silver thali with various hues of holi colours, red, yellow, green, orange, blue, purple, pink, magenta, indigo.
"One colour for every year, every Holi I celebrated without you my bitiya!" Tears stung Nani's eyes, as she smeared coloured lovingly on Anjali's face.
"I wish Chhotey was here too," Anjali sighed.
As if in response a limousine stopped at the gate of the bungalow and out stepped Arnav Singh Raizada, tall, handsome and grim in his dark suit and dark shades.
Khushi's heart lurched at the sight of him. Everyone looked at him mesmerized as he sauntered slowly towards them taking in their reaction.
"Bhai!" Aakash was the first one to react and he stepped towards his brother to welcome him.
Anjali hobbled after Aakash and approaching Arnav with a loving smile on her face and taking his hand pulled him behind her towards Nani.
"Here he is Nani, your Chhotey? Can you recognize him?"
Nani's lips moved but no words came out. For a moment she seemed to have become a statue her eyes staring up unblinkingly at her grandson. Then slowly she reached out a trembling hand and touched his heart, his shoulders, his face, his hair...and burst into tears and hugged him tightly.
Arnav's face was impassive at first but as if in a slow motion, he raised his hands to hug his Nani... but then abruptly he clenched his fists and dropped his arms to his side tightly and turned his head away from Nani...
"Hello hi bye bye! What sort of attitude is this!" Manorama's shrill voice was jarring.
"Chhotey!" Anjali cried enraged as Arnav stepped away from Nani.
But Arnav only clenched his fists tighter, pursed his lips and turned around on his heels and started walking away from them towards the waiting car.
"Bitwa!" Mamaji called after him.
"Bhai!" Aakash's eyes were moist.
"Khushi do something..."Payal said anxiously nudging Khushi who was staring at Arnav, her mouth open with disbelief!
"Yes jiji," Khushi assured her sister and the next moment she was running after after Arnav, trying to cope up with his long furious strides.
"Where are you going?" she grabbed his hand.
He did not answer her but at the same time did not jerk her hand away.
Khushi noticed that and chewed her lower lip. She said in a determined voice, "Well if you are not stopping here then I am coming with you!"
Arnav did not protest when she slipped besides him in the backseat of the car.
He ordered the driver to take them to the Grand Oberoi Hotel.
"Arnav, Nani had been waiting for you so eagerly and you..." she turned to him in anger and frustration, "How can you be so heartless?!"
"Shut up Khushi or get out of the car!" Arnav hissed at her.
"Laat Governor!" Khushi muttered but did not utter another word till they reached the hotel room.
"Will you tell me now what fun you derive from hurting people...Nani,...all your family...?" Khushi asked him hand on her hips as he flung off his coat on the huge bed and kicked off his shoes at the end of the King's suite!
"I am tired, I need a bath..." he muttered ignoring her question and walking into the luxurious bathroom to turn on the taps of the bath tub.
Khushi walked into the bathroom fuming,"Who do you think you are..."
Arnav peeled off his shirt and asked her with an innocent face,"Are you angry because I did not ask you to join me in the bath? I wouldn't mind at all..."
Khushi got really mad now.
"This is not funny, samjhe tum! You are a rakshash(demon)! The people you rejected...your maternal family... I hope you realize you even owe your name to them Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada... your maternal family, your Nani, your Maa..."
"Enough!" Arnav roared and in one stride he was standing in front of her, his fingers digging into her upper arms, his nostrils flared, his eyes burning.
"You don't have to rub it in Ms. Khushi Kumari Gupta! The moment I stood before Nani, I saw Maa in her...I had forgotten how much Maa looked like her...the same smile, the same eyes...and the red Holi colour on her hands ..." Arnav suddenly choked on his words and releasing her turned away shuddering...
"The red colour... the blood seeping out of Maa's lifeless body...it was on her hands...on my hands..." he said in a broken strangulated voice, staring at his palmss helplessly!
"Oh Arnav!" Khushi's eyes moistened with pain for him and she hugged him from behind, pressing her soft kisses and tears on his bare back.
Arnav closed his eyes, letting all the pain gush through him, till it drained away in her soft loving healing touch.
They stood like that as minutes ticked by...then Arnav turned around and putting his thumb under her chin raised her glistening beautiful hurt hazel eyes to meet his brown restless ones.
" I am sorry I made you cry...inside me...its all so dark...why do you even bother with me..!" he sighed tucking a wisp of her hair behind her ear gently.
"No its not dark...its colourful..."Khushi suddenly grinned at him and before he could realize anything she brought out all the grepackets of holi colours she was carrying in her jhola and emptied them on his head... dashes of green, orange, pink, red shimmered down his face and his bare torso and coloured his expensive trousers.
"What the!" Arnav growlwd and backed away. But that only made him more colourful...as more colour floated round him.
"What the!" he exclaimed again staring at himself in the full length mirror as Khushi burst out giggling, "Holi hai, Holi Hai, Bura na mano Holi hai! (It is Holi, do not mind please!)
"Unbelievable! You know I don't like colours Khushi" Arnav gritted his teeth, "And if it is Holi, why are there no colours on you!"
"That is because no one put colour on me..." she pouted.
"Well we must change that shouldn't we..." his eyes glinted and the next moment she was in his arms.
As she looked at him stupefied as he gently rubbed the red colour on his stubble on her soft cheeks, first the right then the left. Khushi gasped as the heady smell of his proximity mixed with the colours of Holi and intoxicated her . Her heart stopped as he slowly rubbed the colour on his naked chest against the thin fabric covering her breasts.
Khushi thought she would die in the moment...but he was not done with her yet...
"Now for a Holi splash..." he whispered mischievously in her ear and bit her earlobe.
Before Khushi could understand what he meant, he scooped her up in his arms and dropped her in the almost overflowing bathtub.
"Hey Devi maiyya!" Khushi yelped as she landed in the water with a loud splash and spluttered Holi colour from her mouth. "You, you Laat Governor!!..." she shrieked at him.
"Happy Holi Khushi! Buran a mano Holi hai!(Don't mind for it is Holi!)" Arnav broke into a throaty laugh.
Khushi stared at him in amazement! A warm sensation pervaded her body as she saw him laugh with abandon. When he laughed like that he did not look like a Laat Governor at all!
"I missed you Arnav...very much," she blurted out suddenly.
He stopped laughing abruptly and went down on his knees and cupped her wet face...
"Really?" he whispered, a strange softness darkening his eyes,
"Show me how much..." his breath was warm on her face.
Khushi reached out and wrapped her fingers round his neck and pulling down his head kissed him full on his lips. The mere touch ignited a fire in the water and they were kissing each other like there was no tomorrow in the pool of colours.
"I missed you too...," Arnav groaned thrusting his hot tongue in her moist mouth.
"Arnav..." Khushi arched towards him, wanting to be closer to him, to touch him and be touched by him in turn.
Khushi shivered with pleasure as Arnav slipped besides her. An electric current passed through the water as every inch of his body weighed down on softness.
She felt her nipples hardening against his bare chest...her body electrocuted by his exploring hands...
...This is crazy and so unreal and so blissful she smiled against his devouring mouth as she felt his wet hardness pressing into her...We are coloured in the same colour...
I am indebted to your love as always
