Chapter 26

Two days later, Randhir and Sanyukta were in his office. She was on his laptop, adding appointments to his online calendar, while he was reading over a business report.

Sanyukta looked up over the laptop and felt herself blush as she watched the way he was so focused on the report. He looked so cute. She couldn't control her smile, the natural way her stomach rolled over, her heart beating rapidly.

Why was she getting so attracted to him? She knew she felt something for him... but she hadn't been sure whether it was love. Now, through observing herself, she couldn't even deny that anymore. What else could it be but love? In the last few days, the feeling had only intensified.

Randhir looked up from his report and she looked back down to her laptop shyly, her face turning red.

"What are you doing?" he asked her.

"N - nothing," she stammered, trying to sound confident and focused.

Damn... he always made her forget her own existence.

"Are you sure?" he asked her, sounding unconvinced.

"I mean I'm booking your appointments," she said, trying to sound casual... but she knew that he was looking right through her. He always saw right through her.

"Hmm... okay," Randhir said, and looked back down at his file.

Sanyukta glanced up over the laptop again and watched as his eyes were fixed on his file, but a smile was on his lips. She wanted to go over there and kiss those lips... the attraction was growing inside of her.

There was one thing that stopped her though... and that was the fact that she was still Mrs. Sameer Mittal. She couldn't forget that... that was her identity. What kind of identity was it though, where she didn't even consider it her identity? Why didn't her love for Randhir matter more to her than her formal identity? After all, she didn't live with Sameer anymore and it was clear that she didn't want to return to him. She wasn't misleading anyone.

Sanyukta hadn't even seen her husband in a month.

Her barriers were still up, and Sanyukta knew that she had to let them fall. She wanted to love Randhir, but the fear of deceiving her husband was much more than her love.

"Are you okay?" Randhir asked, causing her to snap out of her thoughts.

"Mhmm," she said. "I was just thinking about life."

"Want to talk about it?" he asked her softly.

"I don't know... I feel like my hands are tied. On one hand I want to overcome my fear and replace it with love, I just want to love... and on the other hand, it's not letting me. I'm socially constricted," she replied to him.

"Follow your heart," Randhir responded. "Fear and social constricts aren't worth it. In the end, it won't matter anyways."

"It won't?" she asked him, wanting to hear anything that would make her feel better.

"How will it?" Randhir replied calmly. "You tell me, what is the end, and how will it change it?"

The end? The very end of life was death, a universal truth... and if she was going to die one day anyways, stressing out about what Sameer or anyone else would think, or what was right or wrong wouldn't be worth it.

It was so easy to say though, and so hard to allow to sink in.

"How come I can't just let the theory dictate my feelings?" she asked Randhir.

He looked up at her and smiled.

"Because you have to experience it," he responded. "You need to know how it feels to have to choose your love over anything the world says to truly understand the depth of it."

She nodded grimly. He was right... but she just didn't understand how to make these feelings of guilt go away.

"Don't worry," he told her positively. "You have a long time, there's no hurry."

"I don't want to make you wait," she responded sadly.

"Sanyukta, I'm not waiting for you to love me," he replied softly. "I am already complete. All that completes me is my love for you... whether you love me back or not."

She wished she could say the same, but she couldn't, so she just looked back at her laptop screen and drowned herself in work again.

His love for her was unmatchable... she doubted whether she could ever love him as much as he loved her.

Chapter 27

A few days later, her mother-in-law called her while she was working. Sanyukta picked up and answered, "Hello?"

"Sanyukta... come home," her mother-in-law said authoritatively.

"I can't," Sanyukta refused.

"I understand, but it's been over a month... you need to come home now," her mother-in-law commanded. "You can't run away from your problems forever."

Sanyukta sighed, knowing her mother-in-law had a point.

"I don't want to face him anymore mom, he's a monster," she replied softly.

"Sanyukta, please give him one more chance," her mother-in-law pleaded. "I spoke to him, and he misses you... he realizes what he lost. He wanted to talk to you but feels ashamed. One last chance, please."

Sanyukta was alone in the room, so Randhir wasn't there to see the tears that fell from her eyes.

"I can't," Sanyukta told her, her voice cracking.

"Sanyukta your parent's must be feeling so bad that you've been with them for one month... I will speak to your mom," her mother-in-law said.

Her breath caught in her throat and her eyes widened fearfully.

"Wait... mom... okay, I'll come home," she whispered. "I'll come tonight."

She hung up the phone and wiped her eyes. At that very moment, Randhir walked into the office and sat down on his chair.

"What's wrong?" he asked her, noticing the sad expression on her face.

She smiled and shook her head.

"Nothing," she told him, trying to hold her smile, but not sure how long it would stay strong.

Then, unable to take it any longer, she stood up, walked around the desk, and sat on top of his lap, burying her face in his neck.

He held her, rubbing her back affectionately as tears fell on his neck. He pulled her back slightly and wiped her eyes.

"What happened?" he asked her softly.

"I'm leaving," she told him.

"Leaving?" he asked her, sounding confused.

"I'm going back to my husband," she responded.

Then more tears poured from her eyes as she moved closer to him and kissed him on the cheek, pouring out all her love, keeping her lips there for a few seconds.

"Thank you," she croaked, then she got off him and ran out of his office, leaving him there confused.

Randhir didn't run after her. He knew she would come back on her own... she would have to. Her battle with her family was one that she would need to fight herself if she ever wanted to even begin to love who she was, and he knew that she would be able to do it.

Chapter 28

Randhir saw Sanyukta at home. She was dressed in a loose salwar and her tiny bump wasn't visible. She was in her room braiding her hair. Randhir approached her from behind and hugged her tightly, wrapping his arms around her belly, nuzzling his nose against her neck.

"Randhir," she breathed out, her heart pounding.

"Hmm?" he asked, kissing the crook of her neck softly.

She closed her eyes, feeling his stubble against her delicate skin. It turned her on so much.

Sanyukta turned around and rested her hands on his chest.

"Randhir I have to go," she murmured.

"Go tomorrow," he muttered, kissing her cheek softly.

"If I go tomorrow, I don't think I'll be able to control myself," Sanyukta whispered to him truthfully.

His lips were so close to hers, his hands cupping her cheeks.

"You don't need to," he whispered softly to her.

"Randhir," she whispered, unable to hear her own words over the beat of her heart.

What was happening to her? She couldn't think straight... it was like she was becoming intoxicated. Before today, whenever Randhir came close to her, she was at least able to reason it out that it wasn't right, but today all sense of reasoning was leaving her, all sense of right and wrong was slowly fading.

His lips approached hers closer and and her eyes closed. She parted her lips, her whole body aching to have him... it was like he was who she had been searching for her whole life, and when he was so close to her, he felt farther than ever.

"Sanyukta," he murmured as her lips moved closer to his.

One of his hands swept across her cheek, over her ear, making her tremble.

"I have to go..." she murmured, unable to stop the magnetic pull of their lips. Those words came out of her lips, but she sure didn't know what they meant anymore.

Their lips were now a millimetre apart, and their noses brushed over each other's slightly. Her hands fisted his shirt and with her heart throbbing inside her chest, she brushed her lips across his soft ones gently, feeling an explosion go off inside her mind as all sense of rational thinking, of logic, all feelings of guilt and morality left her.

All she felt was love, pure love, for the man in front of her.
