His Everything
Pragya reached out for Abhi, her hand stroking through his hair, as she let her tears run down her pale, tired face. She had never felt so lost in her life. The person she loved the most was in her very arms and yet he was slowly leaving her for another place far away. She had never felt so helpless in her whole life. One side of her believed she was the most worthless person in the whole wide world and the other half believed there was still some hope in bringing him back to her. Darn that hope. If she kept believing in it, how would she face it when he was gone. If he dies, then he would inevitably take every piece of happiness Pragya had with him. She would become one of the living dead. But it was this very hope that was keeping her alive, giving her the strength to keep breathing. How she wished to crawl into Abhi's arms and then walk with him to Death . She looked at the dark feature of his face, etching every detail perfectly into her memory, and almost laughed to herself. How she hated seeing his face when they first started meeting each other because of fate in the randomness places. On the footpath. At his fan meet-and-greet. The bookshop. That wondrous night at the beach when he had carried her out of the place she feared the most- the ocean. He has saved me so many times and yet now I can do nothing but watch him slip away. She bent down and without a second thought kissed Abhi's lips. Lightly at first but then passionately, her tears flowing vigorously, as she continued to kiss him, beckoning him to come back to the world of consciousness. Suddenly, he was kissing her back, slowly at first but then passionately. They finally stopped to catch their breath. Pragya's tears were not hinting at stopping at all. Abhi couldn't stand it anymore.
"Captain Fuggy, I command you to stop crying!" He managed to say, half serious, half laughing. Seeing she had not listened to him at all (as usual, she was acting her rebellious self), he carefully reached up and pressed her nose. "Huh, this should work." But Pragya began to cry even more vigorously. A tear escaped Abhi's eyes. "All I've ever done is make you cry. Maybe me dying is the best thing that will ever happen to you!" A laughed as tears rolled down his cheeks and onto Pragya's lap.
"That's it!" Pragya shouted, suddenly infuriated, stunning Abhi to silence. "I've had enough of this! I love you! I LOVE you! Do you even know what that means?! I don't even know how I fell for you, you idiot! You've always misunderstood me! What do you think? That if you die, I'll be happy and I can live peacefully? You actually think I can do that?! How can you be so stupid?! And all these tears, my emotions- you think they're a joke, don't you?! How could you be so senseless?! I LOVE you and if you die then I will die too! Can't you see?! I can't live without you! Can't you see anything?! I'm dying-!"
"Shut up!" Abhi screamed, pulling Pragya's head to him, kissing her lips with all the energy he could muster. When he finally let go of her, he shouted, "I'm never going to let anything happen to you-!"
"You want to keep me alive?! Fine, then don't DIE!" Pragya screamed through relentless sobs, her tears flooding her vision.
Abhi looked up at her and as if some strange force had taken over him, he suddenly believed that perhaps he could still make it alive. He had to keep her alive. She was everything and if she died, there would just be nothing. This world would just become a big, dark void full of nothingness. He wouldn't let her die- he just couldn't. He reached out for Pragya's cheeks and wiped her tears away carefully.
"I can't leave you just yet..." He whispered to her. "Wipe your eyes- I want you to become the practical, smart Pragya I've always admired." He smiled at her, reassuringly.
"What do you mean?" She asked, confused, wiping her tears.
"You've always been my lucky charm. Now you're going to save me again."
"What?"
"You're going to take out the bullet."
Pragya stared at Abhi, wide eyed. Sadness had turned to fear. She wanted to save him- not kill him!
Seeing this fear, Abhi said, "I believe in you. You're the only one I trust with my life. I'll instruct you- don't worry. And you know that when we do things together, nothing can go wrong..."
---
Pragya hadn't noticed the sun was already up until it's first few rays fell through the window of the hut they were sleeping in. She hadn't slept so well in days- or perhaps even years. She had managed to get the bullet out of Abhi (it wasn't an easy feat but Pragya had somewhat become desensitised to pressure since being kidnapped and her desperate need to save Abhi was enough to keep her tired hands steady during the delicate procedure). Remembering that event, how Abhi praised her and then took her in his arms before the two fell into blissful sleep from sheer exhaustion, brought a much needed smile to Pragya's face. Everything was going to be okay by God's grace. Abhi could still live. She had to care of him with everything she could. Even if she had to give up her life for him, she would do anything to keep him alive. And for that very reason, she wanted to get up and start finding some food for the two but she felt something pull her back down. Even in Abhi's sleep, he was holding onto Pragya, as if his life depended on it. Pragya smiled. She carefully took his arm off her and tried to sit up but Abhi pulled her back down and pulled her into an embrace. She welcomed his warmth and relaxed in his hold. Abhi wanted Pragya to melt into him- to become one, so he pulled her in as close as he could.
"Why were you trying to leave me?" Abhi asked, his eyes still closed.
"I'm never leaving you- I was just going to find some food for us-"
"I don't need anything but you. Who is this 'food' you're talking about?" Abhi said with a teasing smile, his eyes still closed.
Pragya pushed herself up and kissed Abhi's forehead, making him smile. "You may not need food but who said I don't?" teased Pragya. "I guess I should tell you now but don't be too shocked, okay? I'm actually cheating on you with 'food'!" laughed Pragya. To her surprise, Abhi opened his eyes and pulled her lips to his with great force and kissed her till they were both out of breath.
"'Food' ko jainse mardalonga," he said in a serious tone before pulling Pragya in for a hug. "You're mine and I'm yours. No one else can have you," he almost whispered this, hugging her possessively. Pragya could hear Abhi's thundering heartbeat and buried herself deeper into his chest, smiling to herself. She had never felt so happy in her life. She finally understood something- all this drama that happened in her life since the day she met Abhi was meant to happen and she regretted nothing. Abhi slowly let go of Pragya.
"I'll be quick," Pragya said as she stood up.
She turned to leave but Abhi held onto her red skirt.
"Ay," Abhi whispered endearingly, looking up at Pragya with a smile that could kill.
"Hmm?" Pragya asked, confused.
"I love you." Abhi said, grinning.
Pragya felt her heart skip a beat, blushing profusely, before quickly composing herself.
"Well, bad luck! I love 'food'!" She laughed cheekily, her nose crinkling up adorably making Abhi's heart melt as she ran off out of the hut.
"Hey!" Abhi screamed out after her, smiling, before lying back down. He was mad for her. Each passing second, he was falling more and more in love with her and every one of those seconds, he had thought that that was impossible. Pragya had truly become his everything- his reason to live. Just knowing Pragya was his forever made him feel like the happiest and most complete person alive.
