Virat Kohli: What Anushka Sharma's boyfriend can teach Bollywood
Cricket or not cricket. He is the only man worth rooting for.
Yes, he finally declared it. India can now heave a sigh of relief. Some might call it "PDA" and some might simply shrug their shoulders for being a tad bit too late, but hey, isn't late gratification better than no gratification at all? Virat Kohli might not be doing much for Team India at the ongoing Cricket World Cup (was it three or four runs that he scored in the second quarter-final match with Bangladesh?), but he's definitely scoring all the brownie points for being the "best boyfriend ever" in the celebrity world.
So even though he was supposedly busy with cricket, he took some time off to watch his "love" Anushka Sharma's latest flick NH10 and tweeted about how proud he was of her performance. "SO PROUD!" to put it correctly with bold letters intact. A definite "aww" moment I'd reckon, considering Bollywood boyfriends are far from doing any such thing. Instead they are either walking out of press conferences or playing the "good friends" line or doing so much of their relationship talk that it gets nauseating. In such times, Virat Kohli is the only man worth rooting for. Cricket or not cricket.
At a time when kissing scenes in Hindi movies aren't about flowers anymore and characters are having live-in relationships, multiple affairs and clandestine relationships with much abandon on screen, it's quite a shame to have our leading stars pretend to be "virgins" and "just friends" in real life. Even if we forgive Salman Khan for that obnoxiously silly comment on Karan Johar's infamous couch, there's still a whole bunch of new-age actors behaving like teenagers with the media - the teenagers who're desperate to not have their parents find out about their girlfriend/boyfriend. It would have been cute if it wasn't so ridiculous. Who's going to judge them anyway?
Ranbir Kapoor recently walked out of a press conference after being prodded by the media about his relationship status with Katrina Kaif. Furthermore, he's apparently made it clear to the makers of his soon-to-release Bombay Velvet that he'll be giving minimum interviews and only those which strictly adhere to professional questions. Ranveer Singh who's probably the biggest buffoon in Bollywood today might gush over everything Deepika Padukone, but will still not admit to dating her.
Siddharth Malhotra, yes, that conventionally good-looking guy who's as boring as most of Kapil Sharma's jokes, might go around dating women after women in Bollywood but won't ever come out and admit to it. Varun Dhawan who's been dating a girl named Natasha Dalal for years now has never admitted it despite everyone around knowing about. Not admit was exactly what Arjun Kapoor did when he was with Sonakshi Sinha. Ditto Aditya Roy Kapoor who never spoke about his affair with Shraddha Kapoor. So much for being young, new-age and gutsy boys of filmdom, isn't it?
There's another breed of actors who're majorly overdoing it. From putting up pictures with her on his Twitter page to talking about how her girlfriend is okay with all his kissing scenes, Sushant Singh Rajput has done it all. And he should just stop, with immediate effect. And so should Ayushmann Khurrana who's shared all the scoop there could possibly be about his marriage and wife. No one is interested boys, no one.
The reason why it's amazing how Virat and Anushka have handled their relationship is that they've managed to share the obvious and keep the rest to themselves. Virat doesn't wax eloquence about his relationship but by admitting to dating Anushka he's given tremendous joy to all his fans, those who're always backing him and praying for his success. Yes, they're forever prying for details about his personal life but hey, they're also satisfied with a simple "My Love Anushka Sharma" tweet.
Considering we're going contemporary and new-age with our cinema, how about these stars do the same with their relationships as well? Isn't it too old school to constantly deny the obvious? And if they're so hell bent on never coming out of this closet, how about we're spared the constant movie outings, arriving in the same car and holiday escapades too? We've never seen Saif-Kareena or John-Bipasha (back in the day) holidaying images after all. Why only Ranbir-Katrina, then? *wink wink*
