When Saif was awarded the Padma Shri he was actually doing some good work. He had a good amount of work behind him, had given a bunch of hits, turned producer, gave Love Aaj Kal, not to mention that it was a look at his overall body of work, which at the time also counted his 2006 work. (He was awarded in 2010) including those movies like Parineeta, Omkara, Being Cyrus, Ek Hasina Thi, etc.

Not saying if it was well deserved for such an honor, but I think the timing of the award makes more sense than it does today when he's at his career's lowest.

Also there are people with far worse offenses roaming around freely. This is nothing...and not even proven yet. Or did they have an out of court settlement? Anyways Saif is well connected...zyada se zyada thoda drama kerega minister then everyone will forget.

It will lower the bar for people getting PadmaShri if they dont initiate action against offenders. Padmashri is respected in india as they dont award just anyone.

Like the national award just lost a lot of credibility when saif got it for Hum Tum and not SRK for Swadesh.

Now any drunkard, hit and run, corrupt or rapist might get Padmashri.

What is the bar? Nothing.
