What is your definition of education? Getting a college degree, obtaining a doctrate or leanring by home schooling?
As per Wiki "Education encompasses teaching and learning specific skills, and also something less tangible but more profound: the imparting of knowledge, positive judgement and well-developed wisdom. Education has as one of its fundamental aspects the imparting of culture from generation to generation. The education of an individual human begins at birth and continues throughout life."
Based on the above definition, I think education does give you an edge over others in terms of decency.

Nice post Tania Mam!

We need proper education and right implementation of the things we learn as a part of education! I wonder if FORMAL education gives any edge over other things!

I dont think education only factor to make guy/girl decent........mithli ji give expample of bus travel....if a bus got an accident sometime A indecent looking/talking guy/girl will help....a decent guy/girl sometime just watch the accident, give some comment and they leave their own way....i have lot of that kind of experice....

We cant judge someone with their looks and talkings.....Dikhaave pe math jaavooo...😊

by education, do you mean formal education in school, by teachers...or the knowledge passed on by parents, friends, and such?

I don't think decency can necessarily be "taught." It's something a person acquires from the surroundings - could be family, friends, the environment...Education of course may give us a push in the right direction...we look at precedents and learn in that way...but decency is not entirely linked to eduaction/literacy.

Like others have mentioned already, if education/literacy is the way to being decent, how are all the maids, dropouts, and others learning to be decent?😳

Oh decency can be taught , and must be taught much before a child goes to school. Education refines a person but basic decency comes from stable , caring , decent family background hence we see decent maids and indecent educated people. After all children learn social skills from their family members before teachers get to them..

Do Degrees in education fetch decency??

Not the degrees , but education molds your character , shapes your personality and gives it a decent touch..

but levels of education dont determine the levels of decency....

Is decency dependent on the literacy of a person???

not completely .But education is one good reason for decency in a person..hands down .😃

Literate people are decent but decency of a person not only depends on his literacy...There are other factors too. like culture being one.

Or Decency is independent of education and degrees one possess!!

Is it right to say that only uneducated people are in decent???

Decency is surely independent of degrees one possesses,

it would be foolish to conclude that a PHd is more decent than a Masters, or a teacher whose a B.ed is more decent than a clerk who is a mere B.A

It does not depend on their education levels.

at the same time, one cannot conclude that all uneducated people are indecent. They might have not gone to school , but culture makes you literate enough to be in a society. Your mannerisms and culture shapes you.

Those who lack a cultural upbringing as well has been off education would be regarded as indecent..😊

and we also cant take the liberty of saying that all educated are decent... It would be an overstatement..

as we say home is the first school, If we somehow manage to educate ourselves but if were not given the homely care, teachings , mannerisms, not wrapped at home in a culture but were left to study to earn , I dont think such people have a decent attitude...

I just want to say...If we always try to judge people on bases of education or appearace....we dont have time to Understand the person.😊
