Ekta Kapoor to co-produce Udta Punjab

From its moment of inception, 'Udta Punjab' has been a talking point in the trade circles for its subject matter and star cast. The film has Shahid Kapoor (fresh from the success of Haider) opposite the effervescent Alia Bhatt, and the absolutely dependable Kareena Kapoor Khan with Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who is making his debut here. It gained more momentum when it got the backing of the enterprising and astute producer Ekta Kapoor.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab marks the coming together of two creative powerhouses, Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films (helmed by Madhu Mantena, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl). Word has it that Ekta was totally blown away with the concept when she heard it and promptly called Madhu to discuss a partnership. It is also being said that in spite of being in talks with several other studios, Ekta's keen interest for the project made the deal swing her way!

Commenting on their association, Vikramaditya says, "Balaji partnered with us on Lootera earlier, our very first film. Therefore, it's an emotional relationship for us and we're delighted to be collaborating with them once again on Udta Punjab. It's a script, a director and cast we're very happy with and we're excited about the way it has come together." Ekta adds, "Udta Punjab is one film I'm most excited about. I've always admired the work Phantom does and collaborating with them on a project, that boasts of such fantastic talent, is exciting."
