Chapter 15

She didn't want to turn around. She stood there, too numb to pull her arm away, but too scared to keep it there.

Sanyukta wanted to protect him from her life, and if he were to see her condition now, there would be no protecting... it would be too much for him to handle. He might even take it worse than she was. She didn't want that... she couldn't have that.

"Sanyukta, what are you doing out here so late?" he asked from behind her, still not letting go of her wrist.

The bigger question for her was what was he doing here? But she didn't ask. She didn't want to talk to him.

Finally getting the strength to remove her wrist from his grip, she continued to walk forward without turning around to look for him.

"Sanyukta, it's dangerous," he said, following her. "Come with me. I'll take you home."

She still didn't look at him or speak to him, for fear that her voice would give her away. After seeing his care for her, she might just break down crying.

Sanyukta continued to walk.

"Okay fine," he said finally, "If you're going to ignore me, that's fine. I'll walk with you until you get to where you need to go."

Sanyukta felt her lips start to quiver when he said that.

"Randhir," she finally said, her voice cracking, her eyes filled with tears, her heart aching. "Please... please leave."

"Sanyukta, you're crying?" Randhir asked, holding her shoulder from behind, causing her to stop walking. "What happened?"

She couldn't control herself. She broke down... just as she feared. She started to sob uncontrollably. He walked around to her from the front and she covered her face, sobbing into her hands.

He held her shoulder in a supportive manner, and she was holding her face to her hands, unable to look at him.

"Look at me," he said softly, and placed his fingers on her chin.

She shook her head and tried to turn around but he placed both hands on her shoulders instead, comforting her.

Randhir brought one of his hands to her head and brought her close to him, so she could lean on him. Her face resting in his chest, she let her hands fall from her face, as his arms circled her back, rubbing her back softly.

She winced... her back still burned from the lashes.

"Why is your back wet?" he murmured.

And Sanyukta sobbed some more. That meant that there was blood there too. Randhir was going to find out. She had no choice but to accept it.

"Sanyukta," he said softly.

She cried some more, unable to answer his questions, unable to look him in the eye.

He brought his hands up to her cheeks, and caressed them softly, as he pulled her face back.

His eyes met her wet ones, and the expression that took over his face made her want to disappear from the spot.

He looked like he was dying after being tortured brutally. Randhir looked like he was in so much pain. He looked miserable and helpless.

She didn't want to see him like this... she never did. It made her want to die too.

Amazing update.. beautifully penned down the emotions. Now can't wait for RD to beat the crap out of Sameer .
Glad Sanyu came out of that hell.
